I didnt want to spoil the show for myself, so i decided to check out some of the reviews only after i finished watching it and posted my commentary. I thought i dissed it pretty, bad but the internet is undefeated. Id post a review, but i think my audio commentary is better. Link to video channel, on my page.

There's no logical reason to have every single genre thrown into a fuedal setting, unless it's for comedic value. But in this case, this is suppose to be a "historical-story" but in reality it's 99% fiction with branded historical characters.

Typical Mary-Sue storyline with cartoon villains that look like they've been dropped off from the SJW block, this is just a waste of talent & time for people involved in it. The only great thing about this show is the OSTs and Outsourced Animation.

Well yeah, the story didn't make any sense like they did not explain the girl power, and before that why would they add fantasy and mecha into a historical anime? At least the animation isn't terrible but other than that the story was meh.

Yeah it could’ve been so great especially with Yasuke being an actual historical figure. I was really expecting something historical with lots of accuracy and realism. However what we got was quite frankly a disappointment. Animation was good and Yasuke himself along with the flashbacks were quite good. Sadly it lacked in everything else just because the director wanted magic and bloody mechs for some ungodly reason.

Even though it disappointed me, I still enjoyed it. As usual, Studio Mappa's animation is flawless, and the music is fantastic.

Animation and music was top notch but the amount of episodes and writing was just so bad to drop it to a 6, the anime could've been so much more than it was and thats the sad part just wasted potential of a good anime

Too many things, sometimes ontradicting, slapped together sloppily, so yeah, it's no wonder that the endresult is a mess, to put it mildly.

Had a very decent amount of expectation. Thought it's going to be as much as historical as it gets, turns out to be mech & magic bullshit. Nothing to be learned and nothing of value is lost.

Makes no sense, the setting is stupid, (feudal Japan but wizards and robots with no explanation yet everyone is shocked to see a black man), animation is ok but not up to MAPPA standard, music is forgettable, characters are boring. Only real upside is a couple of decent fight scenes. Its easy to see that the only reason this anime was greenlit is cause Black Samurai. It's too bad, this would've been way better if it was a more accurate historical anime about Yasuke. I was generous and gave it a 5

It’s not the fact that I wanted pure realism, but the fact that those flashbacks mostly showed old Japan with people like Oda Nobunaga got me hyped. Then mechs and magic was there for some reason with a basic as bones narrative that focused on a Mary Sue. Kinda wanted something like Arslan Senki, Kingdom or Vinland Saga. Just what I wanted.

Logics? Common sense? Who needs these while you can just randomly throw everything fancy into one tawdry, hideous cocktail. Samurai, magic, robots, werewolves. I wonder why they didn't add aliens, dinosaurs, timetravellers and catgirls, too.
Reminds me of Gibiate which in the same way spat in your face a ludicrously ugly mix of random incompatible things.

Why did you expect this to be a depiction of history? It is not like the genre tags for this anime doesn't mentions mecha, making it but obvious a work of fiction inspired by some historical event/figure like many other animes of the same category.

Honestly, I really hate seeing crap like this. It really makes me expect to see cringe when I see it emphasized that you have a minority cast member (i.e. "All Female Cast" or "All Black Cast") when it ends up being trash. I would rather see a few _really_ good examples that makes me go "Oh cool, a cast with a strong female/African American lead" than a lot of bad half-thought-out ones that make me go "Here we go again, 'Get woke, go broke'"; quality over quantity. Really disappointing to see.

Why are there fucking mechas in feudal Japan, who wrote this and thought "yeah, great, we absolutely should throwing in everything that fulfills 'the rule of cool'."

That being said... that thing is so dumb, but I'm strangely enjoying it tbh. It's like you are sitting in a cinema, watching a mindless hollywood action blockbuster.

At least it's much more enjoyable and has better animation than other trash I tried like Arifureta, Isekai Smartphone, Assassin's Pride etc.
