| I think the episode title ("Bolt Style") is a play of words on "shaft and bolt" and the episode a nod to Studio Shaft's visual style (and notorious fan service), Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei in particular. The pierced artery and the episode as a whole is actually a reference to Screw Style, a manga written Yoshihara Tsuge, who is the person they mention this episode being an homage to. |

I've never read any of its manga yet but I've been at an exposition dedicated to him at Angoulême festival last year so I wasn't that much lost. It really took me by surprise though, not the kind of reference you see everyday :D |

| Damn I guess one of those people who's been familiar with Tsuge (both of them) before this episode so was a great thing to see an homage. |
