This episode was great.
Ash still remembers Surge and his Gym Challenge.
It seems Ash has become famous with Vermilion's Gym Trainer because of his battle with Lt. Surge.
Ash wants to battle Lt. Surge again.
Lt. Surge is training to get stronger. Pisces said she will tell Lt. Surge about Ash and Lt. Surge might be itching to have a rematch with Ash.

This was a good episode. 7/10 for this one. The battle was entertaining but not great or anything. I'm Glad Raboot didn't leave after all. And It was good to see Gou catch a pokemon again. And It seems like Ash will battle Surge later on this series.

This was better than I expected. Unfortunately Matis didn't show up, but his existence was acknowledged and it's not like there's a new definitive leader. He just left someone else in charge of the Gym for a while. And Satoshi gave his first step towards Dande. That was one really cool battle too. I think that Gengar was defeated a bit too "easily" though. But to be fair he defeated that Raichu without breaking a sweat and that Marumine was amazing so I guess it's cool. I kind of miss Hibunny by the way, but I think I'm going to get used to Rabbifoot. Especially if he makes Gou want to get stronger.

Excellent episode! Both Gengar and Pikachu were awesome! Gengar just stopped a Volt Tackle without sweating lol And Ash's crazy tricks made him win with Pikachu once more xD

Ash is starting very strong in his WC journey :P

having a protege to fill in for Lt Surge was definitely a decision...but she’s cool too
but hey continuity!!!
im all for the idea of the classic gym leaders (as well as old acquaintances) to return as part of the championship series

This episode was great and the fights were tactical xD
It's nice to see Ash have some reputation and Gengar vs Raichu was amazing.

Can I ask why people keep saying this is a reboot?

Almost nobody says that, and those who do have been proven wrong since episode 1 when they showed all of Ash's trophies/medals etc from previous series.

It's amazing when they add continuity stuff like on this episode, even replicating Ash's idea of puting Pikachu's tail against the ground to stop electric attacks and commenting on it. Gengar was amazing against Raichu.

I'm hyped for what's to come now.

Yes. I copy pasted my MAL post to there. Because I'm too lazy to write two different posts about the same episode

I aways hated Pokemon tbh.

I never gave it a chance after Ash lost 10 years ago in Sinnoah

You're having the wrong expectations from a kids show and advertisement series. Enjoy it for what it is, this season is bringing alot of fanservice. You missed out on alot of legendary, well written moments and age doesn't matter.... his age will always be 10 because the target demographic is always going to be early teenagers.

Oh... now I didn't really expect this episode to actually talk about the past gym leaders Ash has faced. The continuity of the Pokemon anime has always been very vague so it's nice to know that they've finally acknowledged how far Ash has come and the many people that impacted his journey

They also gave justice to just how powerful Gengar is. I'm pleased.

Finally got to see an actual battle with the Voltorb/Electrode line instead of just self-destructing at the very first second. Although I did notice some inconsistency with the battle seeing as how Raichu's tail didn't affect Gengar at all (which I'm assuming is considered a normal/fighting-type move) so I also assumed Electrode tackling him like that would have the same effect but whatever.

Overall, I really liked this episode a lot.

was really great to brought ash back to surge gym, too bad surge wasn't there.

kinda expected a replay of pikachu vs raichu winning, but maybe because it's 2 pokemon battle, or ash is just much smarter than he was in season 1 insisting on pikachu.

gengar was awesome, but by the fight vs electrode it seems he lack of battle experience.

kinda weird that ep17 ended with raboot leaving and they haven't done much to continue it besides couple of hints.

since electrode used that magnetic field, it materialised gengar i think.
or that gengar was much faster than raichu, but electrode using the field was much faster to make himself transept.

Raboot from the gym stands was like "woh I almost gave a f@%k" then back to edgelord attitude.
This episode made me think about GSC postgame and how some Gym leaders had changed after two years' time. Made me realize I would totally play a redo of Kanto in the games if they showed us how the region changed after a decade or so.
Battle was cool, liked to see a gym leader address their obvious weakness and how they trained to compensate for it.
Pisces' rank must have dropped heavily after losing to a total newbie. Having this rank system makes it feel more of a league than ever.
