THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Watched all 6 episodes on Youtube Premium.

I didn't get it. Where is the plot?
It seems like six 12-minutes military propaganda videos, who are poorly connected.
Is this a whole series or just a prologue? If first, I don't know what's the point of this.

I am sure this is a prolog. This anime setting close to its premise is like MHA where you put unique feature and see how society respond to it, it was have advantage of easy to develop the world from just one unique premise, this time it was exoframe. So far it was clearly Africa is the one that get advantage they have no military industrial complex like USA or other Superpower nation. so they can adapt fast without hurt their economy. Then 1st episode is introduce viewer to the upcoming future. Then eps 2 to 6 is how exoframe integrate to military use, the strategy and how to use it properly and gain advantage. Also There is always tease of a kind of faction that has the role as antagonist. We also get some of real word info and make it relatable. Solid 9.5/10 as prologue. Because when we total it it was like 3 eps of normal anime and non said common rule is watch 3 eps as prologue to determine is it pick your interest.

this is the final episode. unless they make a season second, this is it. it's pretty crappy to have a whole season as a "prologue". if this is really a prologue then they should've announced more seasons to begin with

This is an attempt from YouTube Originals to create more content, and just like any other streaming service, they give 100% authority to directors. When directors receive that much power, they use it on making something from their childhood fantasy, without caring if others will like it or not.

Pretty much this, although the model kits look really nice. It's pretty much a gritty toy commercial for the models, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm sold

There is no deep story, but I enjoyed the action. A lot of combat, very well done.

I wish the animation for humans were smoother though

"Africa is the one that get advantage they have no military industrial complex like USA or other Superpower nation."

There is only one superpower. You mean "other major powers". And I don't think you talk like that in real life: "military industrial complex". That's a media word.

You mean they don't have any technology except what they get from others. The weapon production doesn't exist in a vacuum, you need an advanced nation for that.

"so they can adapt fast without hurt their economy."

Why would it hurt anyone else's economy to use the exoframes? Did it hurt the economy to use Ford's mass-produced cars?

And "get advantage"? Half the world's armed conflicts are in Africa, despite the continent having only 2% of the world's GDP. Their "advantage" is to rip each other in pieces easier.

"My fellow Africans" as the final phrase in the last episode was funny. As if any of the myriad tribes in Africa would think like that. When they got Kalashnikovs it meant young men and boys could stand up to the old men, and take over the tribe. I watched a documentary where they were dancing with their Kalashnikovs and one of them fired into the ground, one of the bullets piercing another guy's foot. The dumbasses were dancing with loaded weapons, and firing them into the middle of the dance circle. This is Africa when they get new technology. The exoframes would be more of the same. But they would need Whites or Chinese or Indians to handle them, just like the mercenaries who handle artillery and heavy vehicles in African wars.

The computer graphics was top notch, and that is about all we can say at this point. Almost disconnected 6 stories which do not tie in into a wholesome narrative yet. As the producer Urobuchi decided this was to be so. Okay. Hopefully the others are right and this is a prequel to actual series... Which I highly doubt.

The concepts were interesting and again the unadulterated freedom of expression helps the authors make several points. Which you either understand already or have not developed well enough to understand them either way. Besides the usual social critique, the most interesting thing was the Peddlers and their attitude towards the Earth. No contemporary mainstream thought school would find this depiction of alien race believable - considering their level of advancement, merely giving superior technology away for something like minerals is too extreme, or even grotesque. But the whole narrative can develop into an interesting, even bigger and better social critique. A shame Youtube had fingers in this, no chances of sponsorship for a full-fledged story. Unless someone from Japan pays Urobuchi...

Besides other stuff which reeks of lack of education and insight into how the complex world works, I will note that as far as the reality is concerned, there are three superpowers - USA, Russia, China. All equally dangerous for the world peace and prosperity.

No they weren't, but they work well enough.

But I liked this fragmented storytelling - seeing only facets from a bigger picture with a lot of pieces missing, making you theorizing what is going on. Also I liked the references to other franchises (Starship Troopers for example).

I guess they didn't have money and resources for longer series, also I prefer this format because Urobuchi-san usually has some great ideas but don't develop them in ways that I like.

It's kind of obvious that from their part of the bargain they want to destabilized Earth's economy and put the politics in disarray. Also they use some cheap recycled robotics (and eventually some agents on ground creating guerrilla cells) to do so - adding sustainably to their probably military operation is a nice touch.

What made you believe the Peddlers are already set as villains? They merely came to trade, and so far they have been trading with humanity fairly and indiscriminately. They also have no agents on their own, or at least there was no clue that there are any of them on the Earth. The Peddlers are hanging up in the sky in their UFOs, trading limestone. Guerillas are not a part of their plan, but rather a logical outcome of indiscriminate trade with all of humanity. The robots were also hinted to be previously alive beings, and the arab woman theorizes that they are all different and came from different place with different history. There are a lot of interesting concepts about them they could explore.

Because what is happening is too systematic and too convenient for eventual future invasion/conquering to be a coincidence.

Daniel_Naumov said:

Why only limestone (which sounds pointless for space ferrying civilisation) and why only for mechs?
This is kind of suspicious to me.

Daniel_Naumov said:

Well not literary undercover aliens but humans who are working for them. Sponsored terrorists?

Daniel_Naumov said:

Those guerillas are too well organized and already have global influence. those things don't happen automatically when the political conditions are right - someone must organize/coordinate them and this someone could be from Earth...but it would be too much of coincidence.

Well maybe the aliens are not directly involved still those mechs look like trojan horses to me (ironically can be used as horses too).

You seem to be looking at the situation from a single point of view. Open yourself up. Limestone is a material resource, which is limited. Thus, without knowing why they, aliens, need it, we can assume that IF they want it from humans then they do not have it from where they can get it themselves. It might be a limited resource for them which is needed for survival, or a crucial material they have no access to on their homeplanet.

If they somehow have build such an advanced civilisation thus they don't need limestone.

Again, your are too narrow minded as it is. We do not know anything about what form alien race can take. You consider it from the viewpoint of a human to whom limestone is expendable and not exactly valuable. I can come with several ideas as to why it could be important to a life form differentiating from human one. The easiest example is that limestone has elements that are necessary for, say, population increase or prolonged functioning of the aliens. They need it on a chemical level just like humans need vitamins to stay healthy and keep functioning. This is an obvious simple and possible scenario which could justify when they need limestone WITHOUT having ulterior malicious motives.

Exactly because limestone is a product of our biosphere makes it less probable that it would have health benefits for aliens who come from eventually drastically different biosphere.

It's also possible that they really need the limestone but also have ulterior malicious motives.

It is possible but it does not mean it is the case. Yet from your input it is clear you have already labeled them as the villains who want to destabilize the planet. This is done by Urobuchi Gen. He is not doing bland narratives for quite some time now. If anything this is a fresh take on this "first contact" and it would definitely be better to consider the implications of being able to fairly obtain tools of empowerment, and how it would transform the world wide conflicts. If anything, this is another social critique by Gen.

I don't share your love for Urobuchi-san but a story where the real villain manipulates the lesser villains to kill each other with minimum efforts just because humans are evil by nature doesn't sound that bland to me.

Aside from the first episode, I really liked this prolog so far! the whole grounded in reality storytelling was very breath of fresh air to watch.

I thought the CGI were decent too except most of the battle scenes lacks something or sometimes way too long tbh.

This overall original show seems very niche still hope someday this will turn out into a big show.

And the cycle continues. Those last two episodes were rather interesting. Military and mech porn was more than enough for me but the world was interesting. Also made me theorize a bit about aliens what. Would if this would get a full-fledged series. There is potential for interesting stories here.

Nice to see a continuation from the last episode with the child soldiers instead of starting another short story

Those past six episodes were really vague but what they showcased definitely has some potential to be a good anime only not in this format

Just finished watching it on YouTube. Jamal came to full circle...maybe he was the commander of the opposing force, the Outcast Brigade from episode 1 which handed the attacking team their own asses?

Waiting for the next episodes to be released in the future.
