I watched it in Mandarin dub because why not. I don't need subs for that. I'll rewatch it in JP dub next time for Taito Ban voicing the main guy in the first episode.

It was really good!! My favourite story was the second one with the model and her fashion designer sister. That one hit close to home for me the most. The last story was a bit bland and lackluster especially compared to 5cm per sec. First one was short and sweet. Overall, I'd give this an 8/10. Being someone with a Chinese cultural background, it was delightful to see places I've visited before and in eps 1 and 3, I enjoyed seeing the characters grow up with their hometowns evolving.

The first story made me want to eat noodles.

The second story was alright, but I liked the third story a lot.

Well this was quite a nice collection of story fragments, with great art and animation to top that. I do must say that I found the other setting for China quite interesting rather than most of the time Japan.

I must say that I did expected this to be a full movie rather than a three parter, but it was still a very enjoyable movie to see.

All in all a pretty solid watch.

What's this? An anime where the girls in school aren't wearing short skirts?! PREPOSTEROUS.

All jokes aside, I found the first short to be pretty pointless. Unless I'm missing some metaphors or anything, I just didn't find it very captivating.
The second short was a nice story about siblings which was pretty cute.
But the third short was by far the best. Great characters and also some nice twists.

I also wasn't aware of the fact that Netflix licensed this. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it show up. They are advertising it as "FROM THE CREATORS OF YOUR NAME" and I don't know whether that's actually true or not. Probably the same producers or something, but the creative staff don't look like they're the same as your name. Aside from the background artist maybe.

7/10.

I liked the 3rd story the most tbh the first one 2nd best and the 3rd one last. But dont get me wrong all the stories were good. But it was an overall ok experience for me. Expecting a bit more from comix wave films but then again its not directied by shinkai

The first story was pretty great, showing the disconnect between Urban and Village live with just noodles was ingenious.
The second story feels a bit bland with the sisters. I couldn't help but feel that I was a watching a Soap Opera about two sisters. Though I did like the quirky Manager.
The third story is overall amazing. The story emphasis on change is something unique and creative. The romance does feel a bit bland but overall great.

One thing that was really similar to 5cm per second was how I only really enjoyed one story out of the three (1st for 5cm, 3rd for shikioriori).

Sunny Breakfast
While the childhood experiences of Xiao Ming were pretty interesting, what really dragged it down was the overuse of narration and how pointless the adult counterpart was to the story. Him as an adult really was only there to visit his dying grandmother. What could be improved was if they told the story 'in the present' more, as in kid Xiao Ming talking and moving the story along, instead of adult Xiao Ming narrating the entire thing.

Small Fashion Show
This story was alright. There wasn't anything especially bad or good about this. What I felt was lacking was that there wasn't much of an incorporation of Chinese culture in this story compared to the other two, which was what helped set this film out from others. I also felt that the voice acting was sort of restrained. There were a few parts when I expected Yi Lin or Lulu to scream at each other, but the voice actors seemed like they were holding back on the volume and intensity in their speech.

Shanghai Love
This is what I considered to be the best story by far. The story had an objective which the other two didn't, which was the tape Li Mo found in the beginning. Most of the story was leading up to the latest entry in the cassette tape. I had an idea of what the twist was once Xiao Yu talked about going to a Panghu affilitated high school as this occurred in an anime series
.

Overall, this anthology was very inconsistent in terms of enjoyment for each part of the film. However, I wouldn't say that it was a waste of time as I was pretty excited about the Chinese setting (I'm Chinese).

Few miscellaneous points
- I liked the use of simplified Chinese characters in text conversations and signs. It may be a given, since this is co-produced by a Chinese company, but I enjoyed pausing the film and read the messages.
- The 2002 world cup was shown on the tv screen towards the end of Shanghai Love, when the grown up characters were having lunch together. I laughed at that part as I realised it was the only time the Chinese football team was able to make it into the tournament.
- I am not really comfortable with the idea that Xiao Ming likes the noodles so much. 米粉(mi fen) are rice noodles which I hate eating.

Lol, I didn't expect this comment to be so long. It would be weird seeing this in the forums of a film which most people would probably skip.

1st and 2nd story seemed to be there just to add screentime. The 3rd story was by far the best from the developement to the conclusion. Really felt like the last one should have lasted longer.

I really really enjoyed the 3rd story. A lot of things were so nostalgic. Using pencil to turn the tape... then to CD player... made me remembered doing that for the tape. And the final moment of listening to what Xiao yu said was so tearful for me.

The first story the bee hoon was getting more expensive with lesser toppings... lol... then at a certain place waiting just to catch a glimpse of the person you like during school. Woah. And it made me so hungry watching it.

The 2nd story was a bit normal anime for me. Nothing special in particular that caught my heart.

Very very enjoyable. 8/10.

If you take a moment to look beyond your hate for Netflix then you'll find that Shikioriori is a pretty good film. The three part anthology film deals with the various things young people experience.

The first story is about a young man who connects his youthful memories to the food he ate while he was young, these memories are often bittersweet but they're aboart of his youth all the same. The food serves as a sort of base for his connection to his home town and his grandmother.

The second story is about a model who looks after her younger sister and is trying to deal with the fact that she might be moving past her prime as a model due to her becoming older. This story was not as well written as the first one and didn't seem to have a clear theme, the story went from being about the bond thr sisters shared to being about the older sister regaining her confidence.

The third story was by far the best of the bunch, it reminded me of 5 centimeters per second and dealt with teenage love and the effect it has on our lives as a whole if we make decisions based on simply our feelings, it had a hopeful ending and featured some of the best art in the movie as the city looked absolutely beautiful.

The entire move has great art, as expected from ComixWave and all in all, it was a pretty solid experience.

The synopsis said the third story is a homage to 5 centimeter per second, so I expected a sad ending. I'm so glad it ended happily. If it was only the third story I, would have given it a 10

Great movie, I'm honestly surprised that this isn't rated higher. Did no one understand or feel anything from it?

All three stories were very well written and managed to captivate me in different ways.

Sunny Breakfast had a very nostalgic and poignant air to it. They did a fantastic job in showcasing what I'm gonna describe as the loss of the flavor of life. I loved how the protagonist of the story used his experience with food as sort of a metaphor to this. The way he uses his experience with food to describe different stages of his life is very well done, from the child who simply enjoyed eating his food to the adolescent who used the food as an excuse to watch his crush everyday to the young adult who just eats the food cause he needs it. This doesn't just apply to food but rather to so many different things in our life, the things we simply just enjoyed as kids have become so very ingrained and so streamlined into our lives as we grow up that they lose the flavor an excitement they once had.
I suppose I can understand why most people didn't really like this story, it's targeted towards people who have experienced or are experiencing a transitional period in their life cause that's when you tend to ponder about all these things. The story isn't meant to have a goal or an objection, it's just the irrelevant ruminations of a young adult as he transitions from one stage of his life to another and that is exactly what makes this story so very relatable, so very nostalgic and at the same time so very poignant.

Small Fashion Show also hit me very strongly. On the surface, the story seems to be about keeping your loved ones - friends and family close and learning to understand each other but I guess I saw it a little differently. To me, in addition to the familial themes, I kinda liked how the story seemed to showcase how the older sister who initially loved modelling and tried her hardest to pursue her dream and despite succeeding eventually became very jaded towards the job eventually becoming insecure about it cause of the younger generation. The combination of this with the whole younger generation taking over the older generation somehow felt very real to me. While I haven't reached this point in life yet I can see this happening to a lot of people which is why I found it interesting. I really liked how they played this theme into whole cherish your close ones to illustrate that as long as you can still remain true to your passion you can always succeed. I can't say this story was as relatable as the first to me but it was interesting for reasons I stated above.

Shanghai Love, I guess this is the one that everyone will like the most since it's supposed to pay homage to 5cm per second and it's also what I would consider the more anime'ish story of the three. They did well in developing the main couple's chemistry in the time they had. I'd say it was a pretty classic illustration of bonds deteriorating over distance and time but the presentation was very compelling. I'm glad it ended happily and the final scene made me grin. This story also had my favorite shot in the movie, where the protagonist stares out the cab window and the rain drops on the window make it look like he's crying. Fantastic imagery there. I don't really have much to say about this story as like I said it felt kinda classic but with very compelling execution.

The art was absolutely gorgeous throughout the movie. Some of the aerial shots of Shanghai and many others were absolutely breathtaking.

Sunny Breakfast - 8/10
Small Fashion Show - 8/10
Shanghai Love - 8/10

8/10, this movie deserves more recognition and appreciation.

This was super cute. I love series like this with just short stories. I liked every single one. I'm extremely shocked that most people liked the 2nd story te least and it's not just my favorite, I liked it so much I wish it was a long series. But I enjoyed them all. I really would love to watch Mose things like this where it's just short stories.

San xian noodles really looked delicious, but this story didn't have a point in my view.

Ming didn't give us a story to go with, like was the story about noodle shop or about him having lost his grandma whom he shared those noodles with? I really didn't get it.

Loved the nostalgic approach but I think it was unnecessarily melancholic for moments.

Makes you feel really nostalgic, if you ever been thru something like this. There were some moments I felt they threw them, just like that. But it was nice and I almost cried in the end.
Also, the animation was really good! *-*

lol best love story

"Oh look, the girl of my life is passing by"

*almost can't see her face*

"aaand she is gone. Well, noodles"

----------

3/5, okay. The short story is totally pointless. And you CAN actually do something very meaningful in short time.

- That sequence of bifun shop owners changing for whatever reasons (man, that pointless fight and the young getting severly injured... for?)
- The girl he never faced.
- His nanai in deathbed.

The obvious meaning of this story was "an excuse for exhibition of typical scenes of China"

Those noodles look so good. That's about all I can say about the first episode. The plot is essentially non-existent: most of the scenes were just explaining how good or bad the food was. So, I feel a bit disappointed that it's just going to be an hour of eye-candy.
