Ah that was a fun epsiode.

I loev how alive the world and town feels. It's like there's so much to do there with everything. Some of the older character seems to have some amusing logic about certain subject but still brings a good amount of entertainment to this anime.

Konju is also such a cutie. We need more of her!

I should have known better, but I'm surprised that Made in Abyss is the current #1 recommended "similar anime." I'd say the only justifiable connection is "Hey, remember six months ago, when you thought Made in Abyss was a cute little adventure that would lower your stress levels and make you happy? If you wanted that then watch HakuMiko, because this time it's Exactly What It Says on the Tin!" If it must be a popular modern show, the #1 could be Non Non Biyori: cute little girls, beautiful nature, happy days. (Though in this show they're adults, only little in size.)

The two fantasy slice-of-life shows I'm watching have about the same score right now, but it'll be interesting to see where they go from here over the course of the season.

(Novel readers say Death March is more SoL than action, which is why I'm watching it)

A couple of excerpts from a conversation I had with the guy who introduced me to the manga:

Miporin said:
You must be familiar with Mouse Guard (and you read Redwall?). Those are great, but in many ways Hakumei to Mikochi outdoes those (and the children's book series that most inspired it, I forget the name, and other classics) in worldbuilding and storytelling.

Miporin said:
The author of Hakumei to Mikochi discussed his inspirations in an interview translated into French (the manga has been released in France since a couple years ago; a North American English release was only just announced) that I can't find at the moment: his biggest inspiration for the series and as a creator in general was that European gnome series (The Secret Book of Gnomes by Huygen I think, after googling around; it's nothing special). I think he mentioned Wind in the Willows next, and a bunch of other classic children's books; he also talked about creating Touhou doujins.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_Book_of_Gnomes

Another children's book series that's come up as a comparison is Frog and Toad, which was one of my early favorites. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog_and_Toad

I sent my mom a couple of screencaps from last week's episode and she replied: "I love the frog and mouse shopping for fabric - and the hedgehog as shopkeeper... great fun." I hope Sentai produces a dub by the time I next visit her in England.

HiDive right on time with the upload again.

This is the Hakumei to Mikochi OP MV, it's not really instant love but I think I will love it soon. I need to see the OP visuals. It certainly fits the show.

Okay, the actual OP is a photo montage. That works fine I guess.

I love that big happy table

The adaptation pace feels really fast compared to Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, but that's not a bad thing - it doesn't feel rushed.

I've been eating crepes and trying to relax, but can't quite do it because watching this just makes me too happy :)

Love these little short stories, but they are showing them so fast, one after another.
Sen's story was the best one this week.

Really happy with how this adaptation is working out, great episode.

If someone told me beforehand that this episode would have adapted three chapters I would have said that's way too fast. That being said it didn't seem rushed at all and didn't feel like anything was missing from the stories.

Three chapters in one episode, it's too much. Maybe they don't miss anything, but this episode don't have a climate like manga. :(

The three stories in this episode was nice. It's a bit much though. The singing was pretty. Those living skeletons were quite interesting.

I liked this episode. Sen is cute, and I hope they're shown again, and all of the skeletons too. I also liked the first part with the singing, I wish that would've lasted longer.

Nice, 3 little stories in one episode, they might not connect but it's still entertaining to watch.
The first story was a bit forgettable and nothing interesting really happened but the second and third stories had very interesting fantasy elements going on (especially the second one).
Futari wa Milky Holmes was a mistake
Yoshii did nothing wrong

People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

I'll sort of repeat what I said for episode one: I love how casual they are about the more fantastical elements. The show never forces anything on the audience and it just feels so natural.

3 more cute and touching stories this week. We got Mikochi and Konju the songstresses appeasing the tsukumogami. Sen the bone master. Careful what you swallow Hakumei! And finally the birth of a new tsukumogami. Through fondness that transcends generations, so sweet. Such a relaxing series. :)

The singing was really nice, despite it being repetitive. When she smashed the coffee thing, I kept thinking someone's bones were gonna break or something. I watch too much horror stuff.

The OP song is so calming it makes me uncomfortable. Naaah jk. Hahaha. Love the OP. It really fits the anime. And the ED, too. Gaaaah. :3 I need it on my phone soonest!

I need that song Kanju and Mikochi sang. Ohmygod. It's so beautiful. :') Almost forgot that Kanju's seiyuu is Aoi-chan. :D

The part with that girl who's a "scientist" or "inventor" idk what to call her was so funny and cute with her experiments making dead animals alive--well they're all bones. Haha. When it was revealed that Hakumei was at fault for that big ass fish bone being alive and so energetic, I fucking snorted. Hahaha. Hakumeeeei! Sen is soooo cute, btw, and so weird. I love her.

Ugh. That tsukumogami concept was so adorable. It makes me cherish my things. Haha. :) Yet another good episode.

5/5. <3

Really nice and minimalist the narration, the fact of having like characters of a few centimeters tall, puts a certain originality to this anime series, since in recent years they have not seen so serious. The narrative pace is slow, but the episode flows quickly, how strange. It is a pity that it is so underestimated since the first episodes.

This is so memorable and better than the first episode! It feels so educational, learning such great lessons from Konju, the Lovely Tsundere Songstress, Sen, the Intelligent Bone Scientist, and Kobone, the Magnificient Coffee Master! :D

The opening is beautiful and probably one of the best songs this season.

And finally, Mikochi is still best girl.

BTW, I'm still confused if Hakumei is a girl or a boy. I mean if Hakumei is a boy that's understandable. But if Hakumei is a girl, that's surprising but I actually like that better. Please let me know!

How did the story change? There are definitely going to be more new characters, but it's not like the concept or plot is changing. Maybe I'm blind, but I literally don't know how did it change.

Amble meant the fast movement from one chapter to the next :)

And yes, Hakumei is a girl. Not a "girly" girl, but a girl nonetheless.

I found I like to see this in two or three sittings (depending on the number of stories). That way it leaves me time in between to assimilate the first one and change the mood to a blank page for the next.

I like the world-building on this, very natural and low-key fascinating.

Yuuki Aoi singing, well well :) Really nice episode.

So literally everyone in this series is woman afterall, even Master Kobone (vocied by Shinji from Evangelion Ogata Megumi).

And I certainly didn't expect necromancer there.

So far it looks as promising anime, heartwarming and calm but also crazy at times. In fact, nice mix of those three and I kinda like it.

The art is unlike any I've seen before. The characters are so distinct and colorful. The backgrounds range from vibrant and scenic to gentle. There is such relaxing music and ambient sound. I adore the little animals: frogs, mice, hedgehogs. There's no conflict but so much curiosity and adventure.
