Cool, Anji is back to being a good guy. I thought Usui would have been one of the last guys to fight.

That was an intense fight. I could really feel the emotions, especially since Anji's mindset was basically like Sano's "former state" before he met Kenshin. The flashback was nicely portrayed (it got me) and the climax of the fight which followed right after was that much more powerful, especially when Sano stopped Kenshin from interfering and you could see tears in his eyes as he questioned "why it had to come to this". They've both felt pain, then and now.

I can appreciate how Anji opened his eyes at the end and decided that he wanted no more of this. Sano's medical treatment is in capable hands, he'll be back.

Next up... Saitou vs Usui!

(Also, Kenshin's faith is on Hiko to save the Aoiya)

This was a beautiful episode from start to finish. Sheesh, this is the third of the last six episodes to make me tear up! How'd this series get so emotional?

Looks like it's time for Saitou to show his skill.

I'm assuming Saito will be the one to challenge the blind warrior, I feel like Kenshins opponent will be that one kid with no emotion.

My eyes were a bit teary this episode. There is always something that get me when they kill children. It just feel so wrong :'(
And I loved the contrast between the too gentle Anji and the one filled with wrath and hatred toward the powerful. What's even more sad is that his hatred was misplaced, as it wasn't really the government fault, just a bunch of neighbouring bastard.

Saito versus Usui will be an interesting battle. It was obvious that it would be that pairing. That Usui seem irredeemable, so only a character like Saito could kill him off. Sojiro on the other hand is not a loss case, so making him fight Kenshin seem more interesting than fighting Saito.
«Time is passing so quickly. Right now, I feel like complaining to Einstein. Whether time is slow or fast depends on perception. Relativity theory is so romantic. And so sad.»

I totally wasn't on the verge of crying throughout this episode. Really. (NOT)

I don't like or support Buddhism in any way, but this was still a touching and sad (yet happy) episode. It's so sad what happened to his friends, it really is like what happened to poor Sano. Glad to see he was turned good again though, he was one of the least-horrible in Shishio's group (along with Soujiro <3). But I must say, I find it funny how they have to beat the HECK out of each other to get their points across. Lol. XD They seem like they could be friends now...

I want to see Saito BEAT that eye-guy. And Saito's not afraid to kill, right? Hmm...

Damn that sad and dramatic backstory :( pretty great episode, especially the action as well! But I'm also looking quite forward for the next fight.

The pacing of this episode was superb!

Anji has possibly one of the most tragic backstories out of any of the characters... This episode was amazing.

The worst thing about this series is how everything has to be about Kenshin. None of the supporting characters have a chance to breathe or get their own moments, it all loops around to Kenshin's messiah status.

For a second there they have a genuine moment over that monk's backstory, and then Sanosuke starts blabbing about Kenshin. It's like, shut the fuck up.
"T_T Your trauma over all those kids who died reminds me of my own traumatic backstory... I was just like you, until I met KENSHIN! I get why you're mad about those kids being burned to death and stuff, but maybe you wouldn't be so mad about all those kids being burned to death if you met KENSHIN! Did I mention KENSHIN's a pretty cool guy? idk, just saying"

While I really like the Monk's backstory, his character really just makes zero sense. No matter from what POV you look at it, it's just psychologically impossible for one to conclude what he concluded was the right path. It would make more sense if he just "wanted everyone to burn," but no, he wants to bring salvation to the innocent! But that makes no sense because you're fucking killing the innocent by facilitating Makoto's plan!

The typical yet magnificent shounen fights I have
seen two forces of brute willpower beating the shit out of each other till one/both fall.

I liked the outcome of the fight quite enjoyable to watch.

That was brutal when Anji clasped Tsubaki's burnt hand in the wreckage of the temple.

Guess Anji has finally found some true balance. Before he was too kind. He saved the children, but failed to see the ill-intentions of the thugs. Seems that despite the new era of peace, the new Meiji Government made some incredibly stupid decisions that needlessly created new enemies for them. Now that Sano punched some sense into him, Anji finally saw how his anger was misplaced. In joining Shishio and not considering the innocents could in the cross-fire of his crusade, he was no better than those thugs. Heck, he could've even unknowingly obstructed the ring of reincarnation for those children by having their future parents killed.

While they were shown to be on equal terms, Sano clearly had the miralaculously superior endurance. They both gave out at pretty much the same time, but with their different physique, I'm guessing Sano's victory would've been easier if he wasn't limited to just his right-hand attacks.

Wow, I was already getting pissed thinking that Sano had defeated Anji with one blow, I hate fights in which the character just keeps getting beaten up and is clearly inferior to the opponent, but then takes a power out of his ass, and defeats with one blow only being that the opponent had not even been injured or affected by the previous attacks.
Luckily Anji is still there ready for another one.
I love how much Saitou tries to hide how much he likes Sanosuke ahahaha
