I was overjoyed when this showed up in notifications thinking it was finally, against all odds, a continuation of the Irresponsible Captain Tylor story at the cliffhanger ending of the OVAs.

But ... wtf is this?

A spiritual re-imagining, perhaps? As long as they can recapture some of the spirit of the original I'm willing to accept a different cast and setting. Of course the "frozen girl super-weapon" plot is inherently less serious than the galactic war setting of the original, and therefor harder to make fun of. Here's hoping they can pull it off or at least make an enjoyable show in it's own right.

Me too man. I mean why couldn't they adapt one of the 50 fucking volumes? It's not like there's not enough material! When I saw this on my notifications I almost had a heart attack thinking "A SEQUEL! FINALLY A SEQUEL! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR 12 YEARS!"
Nope, instead we get this... FML.

Since Koe no Katachi has a very high rating her on MAL, rated by nearly 100k users currently should we try to upvote the movie on the worlds largest database related to films? This movie only has around 4,5k votes at the moment. Let's all vote and make the rating higher?

Like other people here i'm also disappointed with the characters design, seen as this is not his studios does anybody know if Kouichi Mashimo will return as series director? consultant? anything?

As much as I love the first series, I think it's far too unreasonable to expect a direct sequel. Not after over a decade. It's why Gundam, and Cutie Honey, and Speed Racer, and Yatterman have a tendency to either start new series, get a remake, or go for reimaginings.

Because let's face it: was there anyone who spent the entire last 10-odd years thinking "What happens to Tylor now?" Or did we all actually manage to just enjoy other series and franchises since then?

Anybody who actually does watch this show may as well go in blind, fresh, or in isolation from previous experience, because going in there with expectations of seeing Irresponsible Captain Tylor II is only a blatant invitation to disappointment.
