I think he's grabbed her butt in his sleep (or Yasaburo posing as her). He's mumbled about her thigh too, I think. And in last season's last episode she put her head in his lap. And Benten's a sexual girl anyway; she roughly kissed Yasaburo at the bar and bit his lip.

So please reply with a yes or no.

My answer : Yes, totally, I think Benten slept with Akadama. (And if she did, then she must've slept with Jurojin as well. Soun is 50/50 chance; she doesn't need to learn magic from him)

Well, this assumes that Tengu/Tanuki has sex like normal humans. Akadama seems to enjoy having his ears cleaned far more than having sex.

But with that assumption, it was the whole reason Akadama kidnapped Benten as a child to begin with.
Jyurojin probably yes as well.
Soun, absolutely not.

The more interesting question is whether she has slept with Yasaburo - that I put at 50/50.

I wanna say it's unthinkable for innocent Yasaburo to have done it with anyone. And I'm team Bendaime. But I also think Benten-Yasaburo kiss was too out of place if there hadn't been precedence of some sort.

Hmm, Takuan Soho, you know Japanese if I'm not mistaken; have you ever thought of reading the novel? (And then giving us a whole thread of spoilers here???) πŸ˜‹

Oh, oh, I know! She slept with the frog!!!! (When he could still transform into human, of course). He seems the least innocent of the 4 brothers.

That would explain her visiting him to cry, and it would explain her guilt towards Yasaburo. Murdered father, slept with older brother, slept with teacher....

Funny you said that, just yesterday I was looking at the second book. But no, there are 2 novels and a 3rd is planned, so I have just decided to watch the shows to see how it goes. Maybe sometime later I will read the books when the series is completed, particularly if they don't have a strong season 2 conclusion.

And don't forget that after the kiss he said "I live for things like this".

I read somewhere I can't remember, that Kitsune has been mentioned in the series. Do you recall this at all, Takuan? I don't think I ever noticed.

Since Uchouten is so faithful in featuring real life shrines and locations, I would love for it to show Fushimi Inari shrine inhabited by a clan of Kitsune in season 3. 😊

I don't recall them actually mentioning Kitsune, but logically they should be there.

Have you ever been to Fushimi Inari Jinja? I have been there once, absolutely awesome experience, there was a thunderstorm, made it 100x more mysterious.

Outside of that, useless trivia, but the "fortune cookie" was invented near this shrine, not, as it is thought, in China.

No, I've only been to Japan once a decade ago, and back then my tastes were different, so went straight to Akihabara. 😊 This time around if I go there, I'll be sure to hit some shrines, onsen, and geisha district.

Oh, I thought fortune cookie was American invention....

In part yes, it was invented by Japanese in the US, based on something similar sold near Fushimi Jinja,

I watched a David O. Russell interview a while ago where he described a movie idea that didn't get made : a guy who owns a chinese restaurant puts a microphone on every table and sits in a room listening in on people's conversations. Then he picks a fortune cookie with the appropriate fortune for every person.

I would love to see that get made. πŸ˜„

Takuan, do you remember last season there was a scene where a younger Yasaburo was trying to smoke out the shrine foundation stone? Are they saying that the foundation stone is actually a tanuki that shapeshifted into a stone and stayed that way?

Also, do you know what Fake Denki Bran is? Are they saying that the Ebisugawas own a knockoff liquor brand for mythical creatures based on the humans' real Denki Bran? And why is it called "Electric Wine Factory" in the official translation?

No I do not, I will see if I can find it. My guess would be he was just using leaves to cook some sweet potatoes, that is a traditional autumn thing to do in Japan.

Wow, had completely forgotten about that. Yes it was certainly implied it was a Tanuki.

The Tanuki call most things "nise-" (nise-enmon) because the core of being a Tanuki is to trick humans and be able to live in the city. Nise means "fake, quesdo-, copy, imitation" .

"Denki (Electric) Bran" is a real brandy invented back in the 19th century when electricity was being introduced. It's a Tokyo thing not a Kyoto thing. So this is the Tanuki version of it. The writer probably likes the bar that serves it and is giving them some free publicity. The bar has quite the history.

Ohh, I did look up Nise means fake, but I didn't look up what Denki means. Thanks, Takuan. 😁 If you wanna rewatch it, the foundation stone's in ep 9, about 1/5 way in. The show's packed with details and a lot of them aren't explained. I hope they show us a live Tsuchinoko before this season ends. πŸ˜‹

I am one of those people who, when someone asks a question, goes out in search of an answer, so I had found that episode. Thank you for reminding me of it.

Tsuchinoko? Have you seen Occult Academy? Find the BD specials, they have the best representation of on Tsuchinoko in animation History (the female MC and best friend find and adopt one as a pet - it is so cute but so great at the same time.) As for what they look like

Hahahaa! Well, I don't think it's obvious that they slept. The anime shows disturbing things in innocent ways. Maybe she and Nidaime slept in London and he never called her back and it became this mess....

Shogi partner...?

😢

Nah, it's just that despite the most obvious assumptions, the world of Uchouten is so far chaste when it comes to sex. Not only sex is not shown or mentioned, but Soun at the hot spring blushed and turned around from the naked Benten. And Benten HAS cozied up to him, from the death of Soichiro to last season's flying cruiser festival.

I dunno, I guess there's still a chance that Benten just flirts and lures without giving up anything. There is an air of class and huge pride about her after all. And her wearing a t-shirt that says "The Beautiful Live Longer" makes me think she'd only mate with someone she deems equally good-looking.

Also, Akadama had disowned his only heir and needed to train a new successor, maybe? Well no, why pick a pretty human girl when there are plenty young Tengus he could train.

Akadama-sensei kidnapped the yound Benten long ago has something to do with Nidaime, a long history. So you must understand why Akadama-sensei and Nidaime fight in the first place.

Hmm, Nidaime called Benten Akadama's lover this episode, though.

I think she teases a lot, but won't actually have sex with someone she doesn't see as a worthy partner. And only Nidaime has been close to the level so far, but the he seems a couple of levels of pride (and dozens of years) over her. Also he's weird.
She is too revered to be someone who agrees to sex easily. With her being high-class it's not so strange to think that they make seek her company for easthetical and power-related reasons, not for actual sex, especially considering that both Akadama and Jyorojin are not exactly in the most horny years. Soun wouldn't have a chance, of course. Also Akadama is a difficult person, but he seems too proud to outright rape a child and when Benten grew up she probably was already strong enough to slap him on the hand.
It's not like sex devalues a person, but Benten probably doesn't have to giver her body to get something that she wants.

Hmm, also all the older guys blushing and turning around (even Soun!) as she dipped in naked into the enchanted hot spring made me think the show is pretty chaste.
