Hmm, episode was okay, felt pacing slowed down a little though. We got more info dump about the different type of bikes.

Hiromi seemed pretty happy riding her bike this episode. Cute. That Korone girl (the one with the cat ears) seems to have a decent knowledge about bikes.

So picking bikes wasn't as easy as the gils thought.
Anyway that story manager is pretty interesting especially with her getup.
She doesn't seem to like the fact that she is small tho.

I just knew she was going to choose the bike that costs a super amount 3600$, No wonder she liked riding that bike, would have to be rich to buy it.... :( being poor and having to settle for less!

Also Nekomimi, fang girl manager is super cute <3 all the greatest attributes rolled up into one Kawaii!

Want to see a scene where Hiromi tells her mom that she has to buy a bike for her bike club ... and it's only FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS.

I agree: it's a little slow-paced, and (I'll add) a little heavy-handed in the Intro To Cycling 101 department (LR did much the same thing and integrated it into the story better IMHO), but we may be getting somewhere....

Mmmm ... methinks Hiromi needs to acquire her bike, then they need to train for the event (and, where's the 'Murrikan girl, Sandy MacDougal? Haven't seen her yet!). Episode 12, maybe? M'haw!

The pace was a bit too slow for my liking this time.

Agreed. I wasn't sure at first, but yeah, I definitely think I enjoyed Long Riders more than I'm enjoying this so far. Not that this is bad or anything, but I'm definitely looking forward more to those last two LR episodes coming out than the rest of this.

What's with this trend of having lolis be adults. I know it's been a thing for a long time, but it seems like it's been more consistent now

WTF, who the hell buys a $4000 first bike from their part time job they've been working for a week? TIL: Anime writers make so much money they think $4000 is chump change.

Oh oh, Hiromi is going to have to ride her Grandma bike because she's poor! Seriously don't they have Walmarts in Japan?

It's kinda ridiculous that they just run out and buy some of the most ridiculous expensive bikes out there like a Pinarello, which is a professional tour de france grade bike. There's TONS of great bikes for half that price, heck you can get a decent beginners bike for $1000-$1500 these days.

I almost thought it was kinda funny if not kinda sad how they mentioned how all bikes are made in Taiwan these days. As when I was a kid most of the bikes were made in Japan. Companies like Shimano started off as Japanese.
But in the late 80's for some reason Japanese bike makers had a mass exodus to Taiwan and moved all their factories there. You would think it would be a sore spot for the Japanese.

The positive points of this episode, is that there is more time devoted to the world of bicycles, and that we keep you away, talking about storytelling, from situations that remind Long Riders; even if the road ahead remains the same for both of the anime series. Perhaps the slow pace, typical of a slice of life, is not optimal for the situations faced, but I do not think you could do better. I'm curious to see, how to face future problems and to join the cast the blonde girl. One element that distinguishes this series instantly, from Long Riders, is the graphics quality, very good and never mediocre so far.

A truly nice bike store owner would have steered them towards some more affordable bikes. Not to mention, if you've been watching the bike shop pieces after each episode, there's a whole ton of other bike accessories they'll absolutely need too.

I'm actually buying a Trek bike in a couple months and it runs $3,750.00 USD. The cheapest start at $600.00 and run up to $11,000.00. The bike this girl is buying is way too much bike for not only a beginner but a girl who is still growing. Bikes come in various sizes just like sneakers.

I'm having a good time watching the parade of top shelf bikes that show up in the show. The teacher rides a Neil Pryde, Fuyune is getting a Pinarello, etc. And, that shop has nothing but top shelf bikes. How does a little hole-in-the-wall shop like that stay in business?

It's all just fantasy, of course, and I try to bear that in mind and enjoy it. But, I, too, would prefer a little more Reality in this sense.

And, yes: FIT IS KING. A good bike is sized to YOU (and ONLY YOU). These girls are likely to grow, laying $4K out on a bike that'll be undersize next year ... fantasy or not, it's a little hard to swallow.

That's it. Cheers!

As one who is a triathlete and has shopped for bikes, $4k for a beginner is a hell of lot of money. My first tri bike was a Trek Talon and was around $1500 US. My current tri bike is a Cervelo P2 and I paid $2400 US...on sale. It an excellent bike for the more experienced riders and has a strong pedigree. I also would find it hard to swallow that they would write in about high school girls with very expensive tour bikes. My club president bought an Felt IA16 with electronic shifting and that cost him close to $3000 US. I wonder if the writer even does research on bike selection and cost.
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

As someone who sells bikes, I completely agree. I also strongly objected to the cat woman <G> dictating to the girls what kind of bike they should get. For new riders, a hybrid bike may be best if they enjoy riding around town or shorter distances. It's also perfect if there are the equivalent of rails-to-trails paths in Japan (compacted dirt). There's also a big difference between a Pinarello racing bike and a Fuji endurance bike. If the girls are planning on going long distances, they'll want a more relaxed position endurance frame. Likewise if they are racing, then they will be happier with a very tucked racing bike. And neither frame is "best" it all depends on the end use.

Sigh. Did we really needed nekomimi loli adult character that badly in this show? I, for myself, would rather do without...

Not to mention all of this episode was just ridiculous hidden product placement for expensive street bikes.. They would be a lot better off with cheaper hybrid/crossbikes without rams actually (as rams could be very hard on beginners and very annoying on long distances). They would also be able to go for peaceful dirt roads without cars in that case. And faster is not always better when dealing with bikes, the same applies to roller blades for example... If anything it's actually a lot more dangerous if they are inexperienced.

Also, really didn't understand why school prez demanded them to show results soon either... Shouldn't they be learning their ropes riding around the town first instead? It's not like you can go pro instantly.
And I was also kinda expecting they would be just driving around in scenic parts of Japan, not participating in races... (well, at least not right away, it make no sense o_O). This really didn't fit the mood of this show at all.

I actually hated this episode.

This feels like neither and not even a cycling show to me cause there's really very little cycling done.

Yowamushi is exciting with the racing right from the start and now they are facing team dynamics as a issue.

Long Riders is actually a feel good relaxing show in which they "cycle" right from episode one and have fun doing it.

Yowamushi is more like a bike racing anime and Long Riders is more on the Randoneering aspect of things.

This show doesn't know what it wants to be and so far after 5 episodes in i'm still waiting for the actual cycling to start, not bits and pieces here and there of them on a bike and a whole lotta nothing.

i'm a cycling fan bit it's really hard to like this anime for the cycling aspect cause there isn't really any.

Good point! I'm lucky as when I started cycling over 20 years ago, my Nishiki was just as happy with luggage racks on the weekend, as it was in a race on the weekday.

Now everything is so specialized, you have to have really good understanding of exactly what you want to do with a bike.

But bikes have also gotten better! I remember when Aluminum and quick shifters where considered exotic and cost a small fortune. Now you can get them on a $1000 bike, that will last you long enough for when you decide to grow into a better bike.

I dont know why I typed $3750.00 I meant $2,800.00 but I guess with all the accessories $3,750.00 is pretty close. I plan to get the Emonda SL6 though I am also considering the Emonda ALR6 Pro.

"all-purpose people" lol ok.
Parts on Taiwan, bike tidbits, neko manager & 3 months to race were interesting.
Fit personality? Ok they vaguely sorta did. Ojou-sama gets Pinarello since she asked for speed & $6k+ is no problem for her. Megane girl got Liv since it's "designed by women for women" guessing she prefers ladylike design. BakaHiromi wants Anchor... also pricey as hell, jp brand, probably she's mc so get local advertising.
Midpart became a slow paced documentary.
Strange, manager gave them all these choices & they all end up brand new upper range roadbikes. Bakuon's probably the only show that had 2nd hand bikes. They should've shown the competition poster, or decide their club goal before buying a suitable bike. Is it leisure long distance, tourism, racing, or dirt?
My Giant Yukon mt bike is aluminum/steel and recently rode a 70km dirt trail/road route just fine. 2nd hand, $200 bucks man.

That's the feelings I was getting also. You see in the OP them racing. Very little biking except for that hill climb race in episode 4. Truthfully, I haven't see 5 yet, but I will.

Since this is a 13 episode series I don't know what they can do in such a short time. With Yowamushi, bike racing teams were already established. They just popped in new characters. With this, they are all relatively new to biking.
I'll give it a while longer to see what their direction is.

There's nothing wrong with beginner bikes. Even in other things starting out slow is good, one builds experience. Like sim racing games, going from something like the HORI wheel to a Logitech one.

Korone so cute.

So far 5 eps in but not much has been done. Midway into the season and it's barely getting into something good, event that is.
