I'm a middle aged guy who loves all things Anime!
Things I'm also into...
Road Cycling: Planing on doing a 500km trip this summer to the Mountains.
BMX: I was pretty Rad BITD, now I can barley hop off a curb! But I still collect and ride old-school BMX bikes.
Motorcycling: Hence my name I own two CBR600's, one of them I race on amateur track days.
BMW: Best cars on earth!
Guitars: I've never been a great guitar player, but I love collecting them. I also fix old guitar amps.
Watches: I'm a total watch nerd, I can't pass them up when I find a nice antique one at a flea market.
If you would like to be friends, just hit me up! I would like to meet you.

"1. I browse MAL" ...That's OK it's quality entertainment.
"2. I post on MAL"... Well someone has to, so why not you?
"3. I watch anime"... You're intellectual enough to enjoy fine art from the Orient.
"4. Never had a real girlfriend"...It's OK they are kinda overrated, and sometimes expensive.
"5. I'm a 20 year old virgin"...No worries, someday you'll blossom
"6. Never had any real friends"..Who really does?
"7. I watch filthy frank"....Yes...You're autistic.
My Maton is identical to the Tommy Immannuel Special, just with standard pickups rather than the expensive ones. Still smell nice when it comes out of the case!
Stupid me bought a couple of cheap frankenwatches from India! Both are crap, although the Seiko 5 works it doesn't keep time well, and the HMT came without the complete dial, but works ok! Going to have to sell about 50 watches, as I purchased a bulk lot from USA and combed through them, took all the good ones out, and my daughter took what she wanted, gave a few away, so now I will sell the rest, and hopefully get my money back and get what we kept for free. But now i should hope to settle down a bit and only buy quality. I will just pick up some cheap swiss ones that people throw out even if they run, maybe a few Seikos here and there. I still want a Seiko Flightmaster with the rotary slide rule. My collection will never be complete without it. I tend to like smaller watches too. People say they look like ladies watches, but I don't care, I am not wearing a dinner plate on my wrist!
1. Not in the market for one.
2. They're not old enough to come into my shop. People usually don't start coming to us until the warranty runs out.
As for my rotary experience I have rebuilt 3 and owned an FC. I bought it cheap because it allegedly needed apex seals but I pulled the engine out and disassembled it to find that the housings were actually scored so the whole thing was junk. Bought a new engine, rebuilt that, and stuck it in. The whole job took a combined total of maybe 10 hours, and that's with basic hand tools. If you asked me to do one today I could have it out, rebuilt, and back in running in 5-6 hours. Don't badmouth a car just because of one person's shitty driving habits.
$3,500 to replace a 13B is fucking insanity unless your local currency is worth nothing to begin with. Going by your usage of dollars and kilometers (on your profile) my guess is you're in either Canada or Australia, which definitely jives with your nanny state government requiring you to sign a service contract when buying a new car. So in either case that explains the Monopoly money.
The 928 is certified garbage in all instances, as are all of the conventionally-built water cooled Porsches. Not all Porsches are money pits unless you're an idiot. Any Porsche with a flat engine is extremely reliable, even more so if it's air cooled. We see around 5-10 Porsches a year and they're never in for more than basic maintenance or a small part failure. The biggest job we've ever had on a Porsche was one customer asked us to replace the IMS bearing in her Boxster and it hadn't even failed, she just wanted the updated part so it wouldn't be an issue. There's a reason 911s hold their value so well.
Lastly, if you need to get your engine rebuilt before the warranty expires then you're doing something very, very wrong.
There's no reason for this argument to continue as we're on uneven ground. You're arguing as a consumer whereas I'm arguing as a professional. There will never be a consensus.
Your brother apparently has no idea how to properly operate or maintain a rotary engine. A redline a day keep the mechanic away and you should always premix gas. They're also incredibly easy to rebuild. An average technician can have one out, apart, together, and back in in a day. The only inherent problem with rotary engines is that they're wildly inefficient for the displacement.
Buying a 928 is always a terrible idea. You brought that on yourself. Nobody in history has ever bought a used 928 and said "Yes, this was a good decision."
There is also nothing forcing you to sign a service contract when buying a new car. Neither the law nor the manufacturer requires it, it's strictly at the dealer level. You don't like it, go to another dealer. Hell, even threatening to do so will usually get them to back off.
I will concede that BMW made great cars up until the end of the E46. From 2005 onward, they've turned to utter garbage with their electric water pumps (why?) and persistent oil leaks.
BMW has never made a good V8, or any V engine (excluding the M507/1, but who actually has one of those?). The M60 is an oily mess and the M62 is an oily mess that's impossible to work on. It should not take 8 hours to replace valve cover gaskets.
The M70 is the most inefficient and unnecessarily-complicated engine I've ever had the misfortune of touching.
Beyond that the interiors are fragile, the maintenance intervals are too long and cause 90% of the problems, and parts are needlessly complex and therefore expensive (again with the electric water pump).
I'm not saying that MBs or VAG products are inherently better (VAGs are actually worse) but I don't see consistent failures on other cars with the same frequency that I do on BMWs.
That said, I have a giant soft spot for old BMWs and would like to have a 635CSi at some point in my life. The big sixes are super easy to work on and nigh-unkillable.
I guess I should tell you about that time. I completed the entire course then as I was coming into the car-park I raised one hand in the air and hit a ditch. I was racing my friend on the last straight you see. It was not nice, but also ironically hilarious in the minor injuries unit waiting to get seen with my friend.
