guest that I do the same...

Play the second game, it's actually pretty cheap on Steam and it's better than the first one in my opinion.

Exactly, the first anime adapts very well the key points of the game (although character development is nonexistent, for the rest is a fair adaptation). You could also play Another Episode but it's not that necessary.
Anyways, try Danganronpa 2 because it's a great game, and some of the characters are much more interesting than the ones from the previous game (Nagito and Chiaki are my personal favorites).

Like the visuals intensity pre op, felt like xmen & 12 monkeys.
A few familiar faces. Lol Fortuneteller still here, no recollection of Aoi besides her buff sailor friend.
Just here for wacky character designs, all that comedy, Monokuma (too bad seiyuu change), and pink blood (oh they changed it?).
Relevant plot points should be self contained if a good adaptation, at least it's not really confusing yet to dig wiki, besides lots of new characters.
Farmer, Pharmacist, bull face seem like fun & early fodder.

Pretty surprised that the dub got released this quick, i'm gonna re-watch with the dub just to see how it's done.

Not all anime have happy endings, but you should always be left with something meaningful after you watch one...

Well I'm not lying when I say I don't remember much from the first Danganronpa and I haven't played the second game. But one good thing about this is that the blood is finally red. At least we're sure the people dying are humans and not aliens.

Awww I'm glad I waited until Zetsubo-hen's episode 11 had aired before watching the future arc. The flow between ep11, Danganronpa 2 and this first episode is just perfect. Whoever is as late as me to this "final" anime: Make sure you watch a full Danganronpa 2 walkthrough without commentary before you pick the future arc up. Watch it at 1.25 speed to make it less time consuming. Trust me, it's absolute worth it and as soon as the first case rolls in, it's more thrilling than most of the anime shows you have seen these last seasons.

As I didn't played the prequel game "Danganronpa 2" I don't really know what really happened and I'm not really planning on playing it, but I did hoped to see some kind of recapped episode of the game in some way.

Let's see what happens next, but I also do find it a bit weird that each episode follows from the different arcs... Well it's an interesting yet weird way to do it.

Not really sure exactly what you're doing here then since it's a very important requirement.

Expect a lot of stuff to go over your head eventually. No catch up here at all sadly.

Mainly because it's an anime that aired last season. Pretty much the only reason why I'm watching it.
I'll probably watch some game recap or something like that, if you really say it's an important requirement. But besides the new characters and their backstories, I currently don't see much that I'm missing of important details towards the new story development. But we'll see.

If you know any good recaps, feel free to pass!

This is the best I can find. It's thirty minutes though. It was a long game, but a really good one. Much better than the original and all seasons of the anime. Easily worth the price of admission especially now that it's on Steam as of last winter. If you really must though, then there you are. The details the 3 skimps on for anime only viewers mainly has to do with how the Ultimate Despairs wound up the way they are in the present, so you can probably get away with looking at the two anime as their own thing even if you don't get as much out of certain scenes as you ideally would.

A great, I was already watching that one before you posted it, and just about to finish it! Good recap I must say and it does provide some things I did question slightly already in the third season.

But as I'm not really a VN player, I'll probably won't play the game myself. I'm pretty glad a recap was made to this extend as I would probably never touch it in any other form.

Thanks for the reply and well let's see if it's any better than the first season of Danganronpa!

Kind of strange... It's true that I watched the first Danganronpa a few years ago, maybe around 2 or 3, but I'm not getting any part of the story here yet. It just starts off weird and I can't connect the story to the prequel.

I thought Danganronpa was all about some kids with super abilities getting locked in a building and had to kill themselves to get out, but seems like it is a completely different story now, more like regular shounen anime with main characters with super powers that have fights with an objective in mind.

Let's see what happens next...

Thankfully they didn't go with that stupid pink blood like last season... Icon or not I almost dropped the last season because of it and half of the characters were 10/10 annoying as fuck. At least in this season that weird creature with the garbage compactor for a mouth was one of the first to die, I can't stand weird characters like that... This isn't a star wars movie lol, they have to at least resemble humans or I can't take them seriously!

-the only one i didn't recognize in that montage was fuyuhiko dang
-btw the faceoffs between the dr2 protags and the future goons looked pretty hype
-Man, the first half of the OP is pretty hype
-will i actually be expected to know everyone's names from the 2 second nameplates
-daisaku's voice is absolutely nothing like what he looks like wtf
-fur coat-chan seems like best new girl so far
-uh i had no idea who was speaking during the entire sequence when they switched cameras between the tengan squad and the guy walking down the hall
-remnant of despair hiyoko kreygasm
-Y A S U H I R O B O Y S
-did they change naegi's VA
-gozu more like brozu
-seems like kyoko is her pre-chapter 6 self which is pretty nice
-that corpse discovery cut was adapted pretty jankily
-oh jesus i didn't recognize hiro up close
-and he got a haircut wtf
-monokuma's new voice is pretty jarring

Not as bad of a first episode that I was expecting, but the first thing that sticks out as a sore thumb is that Teruteru, Twogami, Mahiru, Peko, Hiyoko, Ibuki, Mikan, Nekomaru, Gundham, and Nagito all seem to be alive. Weren't they supposed to stay braindead at the end of DR2 or am I misremembering something? Another thing that sticks out about the episode was that they stopped showing the nameplates after the first time. This is a much worse decision than what they did in Shirobako because at least the nameplates stuck around for like 6 episodes in that show. Actually, come to think about it, the things I was most excited about in this episode were the return of the DR1 and DR2 protags, and maybe fur coat-chan and Juzu. There also wasn't really any plot progression to the episode other than Chisa's murder at the end. The episode seemed to all be just partial character intros, nostalgia, and referencing the end of DR2. Hopefully the later episodes have more content.

You got the be kidding me; exactly the same game as in 1? I really hope Junko isn't still alive. It was also way too easy to infiltrate the building and beating up Naegi served no purpose other than to give whoever is orchestrating this game more time.

- Excluding the remnants, new characters!

- This is either a darker DR or they forgot to change the blood colour to pink.

- I'm going to assume this is set between the events of DR1 and DR2, probably during or shortly after UDG since the Remnant of Despair are still roaming around but since I haven't seen anyone yet apart from the 'prologue' from the start I might be wrong.

- The farmer's voice does not match his body at all, wth, a guy with a cutsey female voice? That's new for me.

Looking forward to more DR. Should've watched this and the rest along time ago.

So a new killing game will begin. I wonder who is behind Monokuma. As Junko is dead, maybe Monaca?

-LOVED the snippets that we saw of the remnants' actions. hope we get to see far more of the stuff they do after they became remnants. also liked to see the confirmation of a few of the "which remnant did which of the things fake Makoto talked about in the last case of DR2"matter,such as fuyuhiko being the one that took junko's eye. and Sonia/Iboki alliance FTW XD

-was weird to see big bang monokuma though. that feels like somewhat of a plothole,as DR:AE clearly states that only one of it was made, was operable only by haiji and his dad,and got destroyed at the end of DR:AE,and i highly doubt Monaca had enough resources after DR:AE to make another one.

-so this takes place directly after Makoto returns from the island. intriguing. not sure when the Despair Arc takes place though. it obviously isnt the start of their first school year,as fuyuhiko mentions that they already have a teacher,so it is some unspecified time after that and before the experiments on Hajime, well, hajime ;)

-some of these new ultimates are weird ass lol. there were a few that felt like they really didnt belong XD

-speaking of which. the translation legit pisses me off when it uses "super high school level" instead of "Ultimate". not only am i used to ultimate,it makes a ton more sense than the other name which sounds like gibberish to me, and on top of that about half of their talents are translated differently than the games too >:(

-so "Future Foundation" certainly seems a lot less good/capable after this episode. lots of in-fighting. arrogance. very low security. members judging a very important member and attacking him without listening to him first. putting all their big eggs in one basket instead of a hologram conference. if this is "humanity's best hope" then honestly the only reason despair hasnt already won is plot armor. i am rooting for despair in this one tbh >_>

-one of the few bright spots is the Ultimate Wrestler though! I am a BIG wrestling fan IRL,so add that to the fact that he is the only one who stood up for makoto and you get a guy i REALLY like. hope we see him take someone to suplex city soon ;)

-also,where is Toko and Byakuya?? it is very weird that they arent here :/

-WTH is up with Monokuma having a different VA??!! his original one was PERFECT and this one is FAR less suitable. why did they change it??!! :(

-so the Ultimate Maid is clearly in love with the Ultimate President. i expected that relationship to develop only to surprisingly see her die first. i know some people would expect that to be a fakeout but i dont think they would pull the same "fake junko" trick again tbh.

-so remind me again why this anime, with the murder cycle plot, couldnt be a 3rd game instead?? :/

The adaptation of the first game felt like it moved at light speed, this was pretty slow though.

Despite being an organization dedicated to "rebuilding the world" the Future Foundation doesn't really come off as the good guys.

The plot of the game series seems to have translated well, and I like the dark tone.

Yasuhiro was funny, probably the only time I laughed during this episode. His character is just so ridiculous it's hard not to love him.

Gotta be honest, I'm not a huge fan of them doing the killing game again. I know that's literally the who point of the games but still. It works in the games but they had an opportunity to do something different for this show. I guess it's just not very interesting for me personally after experiencing the same thing in the games.

And they killed the character they built up most... in just the first episode. I mean, she was nice I guess? Not very impactful she was around for like half the episode.

I dunno. I feel like this has potential, I'll just have to see.

Yup, watched this and the Zero recap in preparation to this so hopefully this'll do the trick.

Interesting that they've garnered a group of graduates from the infamous school to battle the current mass-killing ones, that's certainly one way around it. Apparently, Monokuma is a little too good despite that, however. And hence, the Despair returns!

Had a feeling this was coming when they gave hints to that ship between the Foundation's hope and the former teacher but certainly didn't expect her of all people to be the very one to meet her demise, yikes that was definitely a shock!

Nice to see Naegi and co. back too!

Liked the first Op & ED a lot more though. Hopefully, this’ll just grown on me with time.

Epic 1st episode. A scene with "New World Order" or a remix of it playing is always epic xD. Didn't expect Chisa to die this soon tho... ; - ;
Also, i got confused about the order and thought Despair arc Ep 1 was the first to watch lol, when it's actually this one. Well whatever, i'm just gonna watch it on the right order now and go straight to Future 02. XD
Ruruka and knife boi sucks btw, dammn
I wonder who the mastermind is, this time?
Also, idk man, but i just feel so nostalgic and kinda sad that i'm now reaching the end of Kibougamine gakuen's saga... :S also really missed Naegi and his pals... XD
