The figure skating choreography was neat and so was the animation style. I'd like to think that the guy was Kenji Miyamoto himself and this episode, more or less, portrayed his life as a professional figure skater.

Probably my favorite MV short, although I don't think there's been that many. The figure skating was not only fun to watch, but it was also very relaxing. I liked how in the beginning to boy felt very pure and innocent with his smiles and having fun skating, and then gradually the emotions and the choreography felt more mature. Miyamoto Kenji did a fantastic job with the choreography in this short, and the animation was really fluid. My favorite parts has to be when the boy was skating through school in the beginning, on the train, and when the past and future (present I guess) self danced with each other. It was interesting when the past self faded away, leaving the present, adult self. I guess it's because the present self's figure skating incorporates everything he's learned and experienced.

Komatsu Mikako's singing was nice to listen to, too. I never realized that she could sing so well and only thought of her as a seiyuu. Time to go back and watch it again since I enjoyed it so much X)

Ice skating's not really my thing, but I thought the design was cool. I liked that newsprint-like pattern they put on the lighter colors.

It had to be done.

But I did like the color palate a lot in all honesty.

I don't usually like fujoshi-bait but this had fantastic animation and was pretty heartwarming so I GUESS it's okay. :P

It would have been better if one of them was a girl, it was nice though.

Three things came to me while watching this: I think I'm a sucker for the manga grain, the bold colors against black and white looks really great, and the animation is really well done, even after all the other shows I've seen in this anthology. Seriously, the spinning is truly something else. I really like how they captured weight and movement in this short. Great stuff.

So is the older skater that shows up first his childhood idol? Or him in the future (or present I guess)? I assumed he was a separate character since you see the younger boy dancing to him when he's on tv, and he looked like he was inspired to become a skater because of him.

If Yuri! On Ice was this but with some minor interaction between the skaters (preferably silent on their part carried through their expressions and the music, reflecting tension or attraction and whatnot) with the skating numbers' music and color palette reflecting the mood of the skater, it'd the easiest 10/10 ever.

I loved this so much, the animation and choreography is so great, and I'm really digging the artsyle!

I wish this could get a full 12 episode anime series! About a kid growing up to be a fantastic figure skater. BEAUTIFUL. I'd rate it 10/10 if it was a full series!

Ice skating anime.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).

I really enjoyed it. I found it breathtaking how he was able to go from mimicking his idol to skating with, to being a solo and being so loved. I read somewhere that the way they did the colors reminded the individual of the opening scenes Noragami. I'm inclined to agree with them.

The only thing I found confusing and mind boggling, mind you, is how he was able to ice skate with no ice. Now I can understand rollerblades or sliding down the hall (since it technically takes place in Japan), but he's wearing skates throughout the entire anime EXCEPT at the very beginning.

This was pretty much how I envisioned Yuri!!! on Ice would be like after hearing the good stuff about it. I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch it but I hope that it'll be as good and impactful as this coz this was really good.

I would think that represents how he's always thinking of skating and imagining himself performing the moves in his mind, everywhere he goes.
