THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Hot.. Hot... Hotter.. Fight with all your might Dangaioh!

I don't like when they change the overall atmosphere in the final episode. It feels way more serious, which is unnecessary for Dangaioh.

Pretty solid last episode of this OVA series! Quite intense and with a great development pacing.

I am looking forward to see what the TV series sequel has to offer, but in general quite a lovely watch!

Gil Berg (aside from having a really lousy villain name) seems to be just a bit obsessed with Mai Alice

Firstly F**K YEAH to the OP/ED for this episode, that stuff was AWESOME!

The episode itself was probably the best of the lot. Great action but probably the best story of the series. Also thankfully there was no recap this time.

Gil is like the terminator pretty much, seemingly indestructible. Like how many explosions did he survive in this and he barely got a scratch for this trouble? crazy.

Pretty noble end for the Prof. Though I do wish we had got a better (or indeed anything) explanation for his switch. I mean sure he didn't want to die at the hands of bunker but he got so little development that to go from somewhat slimy coward to self sacrificing sage of the Dangaioh crew was a bit much.

It's frustrating the series ended here for a couple of reasons. For one it could have easily been wrapped up here, all 4 members got their character development and background reveal so I don't know why they didn't just kill Gil off and end the show with them escaping Bunker's grasp by the sacrificing Prof. By having Gil survive again it just leaves the whole thing feeling unfinished.

Anyway obviously there is a 2001 TV series to try next, it says sequel but from what I understand it's not really much of one. Certainly not a direct sequel anyway. Also it's rated pretty badly so...yay?

Errm... that's it? Okay episode, but the music in the last duel's beginning was pretty weird.

4/5

80s jap.animation porn. While technically fulfilling perfectly its contract, it doesn't show an inch of originality and was left unfinished, ending like a mere prologue when it could have been fully self-contained.

Score: 5/10 Watch only for the visuals or Mazinger's history.

@thedestinedblade First,,it seems like it originated from a cancelled reimagining of Mazinger ("Dai Mazinger"?). Secondly, the production was halted before a conclusion was reached, yes.

@BlaizeV The TV show is a cancelled full-length series linked to the last scene of the last OAV, with Mia returning.

@St0rmblade Whhaaaa? What are you doing, questioning my informations, feeling the need to check things behind my back? You're not the only one with seeking abilities. :D
(Joking obviously.)

You were pretty generous to give this triple OAV a "fine" mark. Was the first part THAT good?

It was an Empire Strikes Back kind of ending, I knew it

Worth watching for Pai's fluffy hair and good animation, but not all that great otherwise.
I do love how Roll says Psychic! Wave!

Watching this reminds me of when I first saw Wicked City and in a way Toshiki Hirano almost seems like the Kawajiri of Mecha. The visual style, the graphic violence, the pretty basic plot made enjoyable through the rule of cool.

Man I loved this episode. Probably the best that the Dangaioh offered. Some parts of the story are still pretty mediocre and pathetically unexplored/uninteresting, but this episode had very little of the flaws I had with the other episodes. Overall though, the issues I had with the other two episodes still somewhat carry into this. Gil's obsession is weird, the professor is weird, The Bunker isn't explored on nearly as much as it could have been, and the entire part with Shazaria and Lamba sucked.

Overall, I'd give it a 5/10.

Nothing toppled the first episode, after all. The removal of the OP and ED was a bad move, they were awesome, only to get replaced by cheesy rock songs.

Toshiki Hirano almost seems like the Kawajiri of Mecha.

What a nice description indeed! He's also a great designer though.

Would like to know the source for the first claim, but it's just...cancelled Mazinger remake, cancelled OVA that grew from the cancelled Mazinger remake, and then a cancelled sequel...amazing. Apparently there's a 1989 manga by Hirano&Ishikawa that might tie things up. Not sure.

UPD: nevermind, found the source, apparently there was a Part 4 in the works

The animations were too stylish for me to give it a lower score...plus it looked so detailed in HD (especially the Bunker fleet, which triggered my Macross memories). Hirano's and Oobari's touch, cool impact frames, etc. It's nice to look at. Why not be a bit more generous to older stuff with problematic productions.

Hm...definetly the best episode I think. The new OP and ED i really liked, and with roll's backstory leading into an emotionally intense final battle, it was a great spectacle of mecha animation.

The ending is very open however (Im not sure if G dangaioh has any connection to this) however Im so disappointed it was only 3 episodes, there's so much more I wanted to see of the characters, they were good.

Overall a strong 6.5- weak 7/10, action was great (dangaioh is one of my favourite mecha designs), music was good and the characters I really liked (my favourite was Pai) but, IT WAS TOO SHORT GODDAMMIT!

WTF happened on the last painel? Gil Berg technically won the battle and all heroes had a sad indefinite fate. (we don't know if they sacrificed their lives or are still alive)

oh! And just to bet, he's the most asshole villain I've ever seen.
