The name of the director was enough to pique my interest. And while the PV made it look less harsh than it probably is, I'm expecting a great movie. ...sometime in early 2017, now that I think about it.

Accidentally stumbled upon its trailer and watched it out of sheer curiosity, instantly added it into my plan to watch. Even though it is yet to be aired, I am glad I could find this anime's whereabouts, I hope it will be a good one but regardless, definitely will be going to watch.

@Belac77 In case you still wanted to know about the song, the tittle is Kanashikute yarikirenai, it is an old Japanese folk song. There are lot version of it floating around in internet but If I am not wrong the one in the trailer is the cover version by Kotringo.

I hear that this is:

A very well done slice of life+8 years of hard work in recreating Kure and Hiroshima+the right answer to Ghibli Miyazaki and Takahata+obviously catastrophic nuclear bombing of Hiroshima=A CLASSIC. A classic that would leave your jaws dropped and gape "what have I just watched?"

Different reviewers are rating this 5 stars in Japan. I hope to watch this weekend. For me, this year's best film was without doubt Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice) (and no, it was much better than Kimi no Na Wa). I don't mind being forced to change my mind, though, by watching this film.

The song in the PV is a cover of a 1960s folk oldies Kanashikutte Yarikirenai
(It's so sad beyond my bearing):

That sparkle in the sky
Which pierces my heart
As any other day I gaze far away
With tears running down my eyes
It's so sad and so sad
Beyond my bearing
To whom shall I tell this
Hazy and disconsolate feeling

White clouds flow on and on
As any other day my dream gets tangled
and is shaken miserably
It's so sad and so sad
Beyond my bearing
Would there not be a relief
From this endless hollow that I feel?

Wrapped in the green deep forest
I thoroughly lament listening to the winds that sing
It's so sad and so sad
Beyond my bearing
Would this burning pain
Continue on in another day?

popular 3 anime films of 2016 are called 3K
- Kimi no Na wa。 ( Your Name)
- Koe no Katachi
- Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni( In This Corner of the World)

Kancolle fans call 4K, adding 3K with 'Kancolle Movie'.

Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni (In This Corner of the World) has been voted by the critics the Best Japanese Film of 2016 (including live picture films) and Best Directed Japanese Film by Kinema Junpo (The Movie Times), which is the single most authoritative film magazine in Japan. It is the first animated film to be selected the Best Film of Year since Tonari no Totoro (Totoro: My Neighbor) by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli in 1988.

... And I wholeheartedly personally endorse the decision. This was perhaps the most moving movie I've ever watched on Japanese animation. It definitely ranks among the Japanese animation classics like Totoro. Congratulations!

Saw the movie yesterday during the day. It's not being screened in the evenings where I live. There were a lot more than the handful of people I usually can count in a theatre for an anime movie.

Overall impression...a very good movie indeed. Did have some trouble following the dialogue. I have no clue as to how to figure out the Hiroshima dialect...I have problems enough with the local dialect as it is (ha, ha). It's not without a few funny moments and scenes. It's the first movie I've seen in Japan where I heard someone else in the audience other than myself laugh out loud.

The end credits include the list of everyone who contributed to the crowdfunding drive for the film. It's accompanied by a picture story of the life of a minor character in the film.

PS: I have visited Kure once and can say that the centre of the city is a bit of a distance from Hiroshima. My guess it's about 20km south/SSE from Hiroshima's city centre..

Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni or In This Corner of This World won the 40th Japan Academy Awards for Best Animation Award. It won the prize over the blockbuster film Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) and Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice).

I saw all three films, and although I liked Koe no Katachi a lot, at the ending of In This Corner of This World, I knew that it was the best animation film of 2016, period. Well deserved.
