Ishikura's leg will have to be amputated I suppose.

The suspense is really building up now, though can Ishikura even kill Asai in his condition?

A classic scenario. Two individuals who can't trust each other locked in a lodge during a blizzard. It makes me want to watch the Hateful Eight again, this kind of scenario is awesome. It's simple and it creates a lot of tension, the atmosphere rising off of the silent Ishikura and the worrying Asai was tangible. But importantly for me, there's this great blend of comforting and scary. I love snow, I think it is so pretty, and the lodge itself is cozy and cute and warm looking. It's not cool to be stuck in a blizzard but there's something comforting about it and that makes the intruding presence of a possible killer that much more alarming.

In fact, the way that this is going makes me think of Kaiji part 4’s salvation game, and this general idea of a cycle of distrust that we see in a fair bit of Fukumoto’s works. Another example is the “I WILL NOT PUSH” from Kaiji as well. This theory of human nature that hinges on humans not being trusting or good, that one can believe that they would do the good thing, say not kill someone else, but they cannot know that someone else will too do the good thing. Out of fear that they will kill you, you must kill them. In fact the earliest case of this reasoning in my knowledge comes from Thomas Hobbes and his ‘state of nature’. By stripping away all law and making these two “friends” doubt each other the lodge has become a ‘state of nature’. All of this goes to say that I think the manga may have Asai kill Ishikura in the end. Ishikura is the killer, he’s silent, he's drawn with some creepy panelling, and we don't know what he's thinking. Asai has been quite good-natured so far so it would speak the most if he was the one that broke due to doubt.

For a more specific note, I think that I like Asai. I like both of the characters designs, but Asai has shown himself to be quite likeable. He is quiet but logical, he quickly spots the telephone and advances for it, he calls and immediately tells them all of the crucial information, he leaves the bag leaned against the sign to avoid it being covered by snow, and in the beginning we saw that he's the type to think of all the possibilities of a given situation. I actually loved the moment where he heard Ishikura state “just myself” because he mirrored my thought process exactly. Nervous for his life he assumes that Ishikura was calling to say that he was the only one in the lodge, but I immediately started to think that was too obvious, what else could he respond like that towards, of course I thought, if they asked if he was the only one who was hurt! So, just after I had begun thinking about how logical Asai was and he started to think about the former, I hoped I wouldn't regret that assessment of him. I'm glad I didn't need to! Still, there's an intriguing part of his character, he seemed to accept the murder way too easily, and here in his mind he was thinking that he would never tell the secret! He seems way too okay with all this, I don't exactly understand the friendship with Ishikura but it’s one that I feel suspicious over. I feel like a twist could occur.

I wonder if the closeups of the fire are of a symbolic nature.

That leg is not looking good. The lodge looks nice and cozy.

Whats Ishikura planning?
