I was wondering how many people know how to play mahjong. I do it from time to time on Yahoo games.

I play pretty often with the Four Winds program. It's nice because if features all of the different international rulesets so you can see how it varies around the world, including the Japanese Modern ruleset used in Akagi.

I tried learning to play... I managed to understand the concept and what the tiles are, but... I haven't actually played.

Learning to play Mahjong is on my extended Things to do Before I Die list, right after finding someone to actually play with.

I used to play with Chinese profs. :D

That was several years ago and I've nearly forgotten how. Could prolly learn it again quickly if I had someone to play with.

I've played several computer game versions of Mahjong over the years. I find playing them to be relaxing.

However I would love to play a real game of Mahjong someday...
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most...

I would, if any of the stores around here sold it. :-( And I've had no luck at finding it computer-based, either - the only games I can find are Mahjong Solitaire-based. But I'd love to try it some day.

Flash-based game which is great for practicing against the CPU. Really helps me remember hands and rules.

Tyblazitar's link is the best. When Im not playing with my friends, I play with computer. Its more realistic than the other mahjong games ive played so far (cuz theyre cheating, making a 13 orphans too easily XD). I never thought that many people played mahjong though, but Im asian, so :D. I always played the chinese one, but now I really find the japanese one much more interesting.

Comparing chinese and japanese mahjong... Jap=much more gambling.

The only reason I watched the show to start off with is.

a) The artworked looked KICK ASS
b) i really like maximum the hormone

When I watched it..it's more to me than that..it was very interesting..makes me want to learn Mahjong (moreso)

I learned Mahjong after seeing Akagi. I've seen other Mahjong animes, but Akagi is a masterpiece. The more I watched it the more I wanted to learn. Now I play a mobile version of Hong Kong Mahjong and am quite happy with it. I would love to play it for real though. Two of my flatmates are Chinese so I hope they'll play with me sometime :)
