Welcome to The Stop-Motion Animation Appreciation Society. This is a place for anyone who enjoys stop-motion animation or is interested in stop-motion animation techniques. 

We also research Japanese and Korean stop-motion animation so it can be added to MAL's database.

The club spreadsheet for anime relations provides more information on types of stop-motion and legal sources.

History of the Club

This was originally made because MAL's moderators and administrators wanted to remove all stop-motion animation entries from the database. This club was set up as a petition against that, as we felt that stop-motion animation has a right to be considered "anime" if it came from Japan or Korea.

One of MAL's database administrators (Kineta) then gave us the offer of keeping stop-motion animation on the database if we researched these stop-motion animations and we showed them the wide variety of stop-motion out there so that MAL could become a place where you can find out about individual stop-motion works.

So we decided to accept this offer and started researching various stop-motion animations to submit. After researching and submitting a number of stop-motion animations, we managed to convince the mods to keep stop-motion animation on MAL, as long as it complied with the rest of the guidelines which all anime have to meet in order to get accepted into the database.

That was the story of how this club came into existence.

Added, thanks. I especially liked Itoshii Itoshii no Pan-hen, but dwarf always manage to do interesting things even when it's a short clip.

Done, thanks. Some of it looks like CG as well, but there's definitely some claymation.

I've been quiet lately here because I'm taking a break from watching anime, partly because watching things randomly I find most things to be so average that it's not that interesting. That's a downside when you've seen enough of the popular titles. There are always gems among the less popular ones, but the more you watch, the more you have to sit through boring stuff to find it. I'm also busy with practicing the piano & other real life stuff.

I do still check my notifications regularly, so I'll be able to maintain the relations etc. It's just that I'm currently not actively searching for new stuff to add, and my last submissions have been stuck in the queue for quite a while now, so I'm waiting to see if those go anywhere.

I first watched in on the phone and had to check again on the computer, as there's quite a bit of CGI, but I believe puppets have been used for the characters and even cutouts in one part of the video.

Also, for stuff missing from our club relations I've been going through the Shanghai Animation Film Studio entries, which is time-consuming as they have 357 titles. Going alphabetically I'm currently on the letter H, and while they're already the studio with the most entries in our relations, I still find new ones, mainly cutout animation but also some puppetry.
