both gained in the mecha genre very high praise and attention and more so popularity in the west till today , and soon: 25TH ANNIVERSARY BLOWOUT i can,t wait

Both are heavy into the military type setting where a small organization is trying to prevent large conflict. Overall very similar with the female and male relationship and plot. Full Metal Panic will probably seem like a more relaxed show. Both are good watches and I would recommend them both to anyone with any interest in mobile suits.

Both are centered around conflicting countries/worlds with deep racial ties (Elevens vs Brittanians, Earth vs Colonies). The main characters are young men and women who are torn between two worlds both morally and on the battlefield, and must deal daily with moral ambiguity. All conflict in both series are mostly settled by mechanical suits and politics is the motive behind every move.

Setsuna is just a new version of Heero Yuy!

Both are mecha anime with strong leading male characters on a mission.Throw in a little romance with two great leading ladies, and you have a hit for both. Escaflowne is more about Hitomi finding out about who she really is, while in the midst of a new world. Gundam wing focuses more on the war in space and the two main characters searching for what is right to do for themselves...all in all both great animes that are a MUST to check out!

Both series focus heavily on politics and wars fought in space, I advise fans of LOGH to watch Wing even if they are not fans of the Gundam series in general.

Edward Elric and Duo Maxwell are similar. If you've seen the original FMA and/or GW, watch FMA Brotherhood! You'll find some similarities in this show!

Groups fighting for freedom (Japan and Colonies) against tyrannical factions (GHQ and United Earth Sphere Alliance). Guilty Crown is similar to Code Geass whose story is based on Gundam Wing but with a more Evangelion approach meaning more supernatural powers are involved than just aristocrats and mechas.

Valvrave may have elements similar to Code Geass, Guilty Crown, and Gundam Seed but it also similar to Gundam Wing. Both shows have mecha, drama, school life setting, and one man army protagonists who only uses few mecha to fight off tyrannical factions (Dorssia and United Earth Sphere Alliance/Oz/Romefeller). Both shows feature military and political conflicts between two or three nations. Most of the battles in both are done in space, and action in general is solid in both. With a very similar cast of characters, you could surely check out one of them if you enjoyed the other one. L-Elf is a lot similar  read more

Emiya Kiritsugu is similar to Heero Yuy as well as Irisviel to Relena. Characters in both shows shed blood for their desires such as peace, greed, etc. Fate Zero however is much more darker and has horror and deals with sorcery and warriors whereas Gundam Wing deals with mecha and a modern tone. There's a sense of pacifism in Fate Zero other than in Wing.

For the lovers of mecha anime, BIG BIG robots and warfare like the way it should be according to these 2 oldskool gems, more similair in the genre and popularity , and longrunning serie´s

Both stories involve the battle of freedom in order to seek their homes and both male and female leads are analogously similar. Code Geass: Akito the Exiled has great mecha action like Wing as well as the story involving drama, intense, and suspense which is something different from Gundam Wing but overall both are great shows!

On a mission to take vengeance upon the Earth, soldiers are sent from the colonies in their personalized meccha - Mobile Suits, referred to as "Gundams." Initially conducting individual operations across the globe, they are conflicted their own morals, duties as soldiers and their pasts, as well as those of the other Gundam pilots. As this occurs, the main characters cross paths with a girl from an influential family. Though her means differ from those of the pilots, their ultimate goal is the same - and that is peace. Gundam Wing is a must watch classic with another great soundtrack.

The male MCs are similar in terms of background and personality whose relationship with a female MC as well. Both shows have a similar setting-Sci Fi and Military
report Recommended by WingZeroRequiem
The Protagonists in both shows are stoic individuals who rarely speak and must deal with the oppression in the society that they live in but at the same time their true faces show that they change it through immoral acts that they must justify with their powerful companions who share that common goal.
report Recommended by WingZeroRequiem
Big space battles are decided by the actions of several key individuals. Soldiers have to change their allegiances as the political situation changes during successive wars. War seems endless as factions are replaced in coups. Blurring between protagonist and antagonist.

War, ships and young pilots. A key difference is that instead of mobile suits you are going to see ships and war is only limited on earth. It's not the gundam universe but is an anime you will enjoy.
report Recommended by Duo02
Both series are heavily themed around people in space wanting to win independence from the Earth - in IBO, it's Mars that's trying to become independent from Earth; in Wing, it's several space colonies.

Themes of war, justice, peace, and chivalry surrounds both shows. Both have characters who fight in a massive fighting scale as a one man army action. Ichigo/Heero Yuy and Soul Society/Colony Liberation Organization fight to protect Earth whereas Aizen/Treize and Arrancars/OZ fight for the same thing with a different reason which opposes the main character's ideals. Conspiracy also involves in both shows through government and characters until a greater evil is revealed. An interesting note is that Aizen and Treize are similar.

Both series involve the second half of the story with defeat and uprising of the main characters as well as some new upgrades.

Despite both being mecha anime, They as well portrait as sort of a remake hommage of the original serie's. in gundam's case mobile suit was sort of a hommage to the 25th anniv. charachter called Casval rem daikun ( a.k.a the red comet) u can see the simmilarity with the Zechs marquise persona , the helmet , the clothing , the posture.
report Recommended by Shura-shurato
The MCs of both shows are similar due to having a stoic personality. Both have great mecha action as well as drama. The main difference is that in Seed CE 73 Stargazer, there is intensity involved despite being a short series. Some mecha from Earth Alliance in Seed CE 73 Stargazer have elements similar to Gundam Wing as well as the main character organization.

Another great Gundam show to add if you only like Wing. 08th MS Team too is a mecha show but on a different scale dealing with ground based war scale other than space. It isn't just about mechas but action pack hand in hand combat and weaponry with bombs, guns, and blades. Character interactions are great especially Shiro Amada and Aina Sahalin as both begins to fall in love and share the same sentiments as the war goes on even to the end. There too is drama which is more than Wing and a much more darker tone.

If you've seen Gundam Wing, try watching this one because it too is closer to Gundams than any other UC shows even though they fight in an army. 0083 Stardust Memory is a much more darker than Gundam Wing and better animated as well since it is an OVA. Mecha design is brilliant as well as the action and the action is just like Wing and G and trust me, when you watch this, you will never regret watching this at all because it is like the main UC Gundam show out of all the franchise when you think of Gundams as your favorite Mecha  read more

Both anime features a war story with a whole bunch of characters and some sci-fi elements. The guys in Senjou no Valkyria are very attractive sort of like in Gundam Wing. One difference is that Senjou no Valkyria has more concrete romance in it.

If you liked any of the aspects mentioned here in one of the series, you might like the other. Both have children as main characters who get involved in a situation that by far surpasses what they are able to do. While trying to survive (Infinite Ryvius) or trying to accomplish what they believe in (Gundam Wing), they are labeled terrorist and make enemies out of those who they belong to or those who they want to protect. Both series share politics and human emotions/actions as themes, even though in different scales: Gundam Wing is more focused on the philosophy of politics and human ideals, while Infinte Ryvius  read more

Space opera is a genre with a small, but devoted fanbase. There are very few recognizable space opera anime. Gundam Wing may now be considered an old anime, but it was a popular entry point into the Gundam franchise and an excellent example of space opera anime. Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 is a more recent space opera anime, but did not gain the same level of popularity outside of Japan. However, it is easily one of the best space opera anime in the last 15 years, which speaks more to the lack of new space opera anime. You will undoubtedly enjoy these series.

The storyline has a similar treatment of war and peace involving multiple nations and organizations/factions, with plenty of battles (Gundams and other mobile suits, air ships and vanships, etc.).

Wing is based on Universal Century and some of the elements of Char's Counterattack are incorporated into Wing. Zechs Merquise and Treize Krushrenada are similar to Char Aznable but mostly his actions and Zechs is the one who's the closest than Treize. Philosophy are similar regarding Earth and Space and those who wants to change the world through actions. OZ and UESA and colonies are more closer to being based on Zeon than Earth.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
Both shows have similar plot (Earth vs Colonies) as well as "Freedom fighters" Cast and a group of Gundams as well. Mecha design are almost similar in terms of Gundams and the action is great as well.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
both shows are great and are about super powered (Fighters and Gundams) beings that fight throughout the story at a huge scale level.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
Peace solutions through the concept of "ends justify the means" are applied to both shows through characters who fight whether it's through good, evil, or neutral. Death Note however is between the battle of geniuses and wits whereas Gundam Wing is between pilots and soldiers.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
Idealism to end conflict through changes are revolved around both shows as people try to fight and realize that it is not just non violence but with any means necessary. The idea of justice in Fate Stay Night is similar to the idea of peace/pacifism in Gundam Wing.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
Main characters are similar due to being a group of pilots piloting gundams. Another awesome Gundam show to watch since the gundam mecha design is based on G Gundams. Action packed and destruction at the same time too as well as plot development.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
Although Seed and Wing are set in different universes, the similarities are numerous. Both feature entire universes in war, huge fleets and loads of meccha action. They show how friends are thrown against each others in the horror of wars. The characters are well made and you feel for them throughout the shows. If you like on of them, you'll enjoy the other one as well.

morality of good, evil, and grey, character's goals intervene others to achieve peace, earth vs colonies, pacifism, neutral kingdom of peace, what is right and wrong, and sense of right and justice. Only difference is that in Seed Destiny, it takes to a different level between races (naturals and coordinators) and the choice to make a future whereas in wing it is all about war, peace, and weapons.
report Recommended by Rikudo14
Both deal with the ideology of war and peace, conflicts that will lead to war, political affairs, cycle of hatred, corrupted world, war to end all wars, and characters fighting through the morality of good, evil, or neutral. The only difference is that in Gundam Wing, there are mecha, space, idea of peace that is obtained through pure pacifism and conflict, and earth and colonies and in Naruto, there are shinobi nations, war and peace including understanding which the cycle of hatred will break one day, prophecy, jutsu, demons, ninjas, and supernatural powers. Also both have mysterious characters who conceal themselves to seek a goal  read more
