Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu

Two of the funniest anime in existence. And, perhaps coincidentally, the only two anime that spring to mind where the 'half-episode' mark often meant a different short story/chapter. You know how those other unfunny anime drag-on for the full episode run-time... despite being unfunny? These two don't. Clearly, 10-minutes is the best for animated comedy silliness. 

They are both comedy and they both have characters with "strange" qualities... such as Sousuke having the military thing and Haruhi having the alien, esper, time-traveller thing. They are both hilarious with some romance added in. 

Girls, military officers in "normal" society, big guns that somehow appear out of nowhere, and Fumoffu! 

I couldn't help but remember Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu when I started watching Seto no Hanayome. Both are high-school romance comedy in which everything is allowed to go crazy. Both anime are fun, random, and hilarious.  

These are two of the funniest dubs out there. Both are episodic and rely heavily on gags and quips, and both succeed at making you laugh like a madman. Great liberties were willingly extended to the dubbing production of Ghost Stories by the Japanese creators, and these were taken with gusto. Don't miss either of these comedic gems! 

If you're looking for some nonsense fun, here you have two great series to pick: Azumanga Daioh makes you laugh like there's no tomorrow, and Fumoffu is not that fun, but it has weapons and more action. 

They may be extremely different, but they're also extremely hilarious. You will laugh your ass off! 

Both shows are just plain-old funny, and use a lot of slapstick humor in a school setting. 

They have very similar atmospheres :) Ayano is just like Chidori.  

If you're looking for laughs in almost every episode as the main characters go through every-day life, then watch both these series. 

Comedic element in both series is in the viewer's ability to spot small details. Both FMP Fumoffu and Hataraku heavily feature slapstick humor and hilarious scenes through episode progression and background action. 

It should be noted that this show is defnitely more focused on comedy than romance, so fans looking for some humor will definitely be pleased; this show is one of the funniest I've seen so far, right up there with Heaven's Lost Property on my list of favorite romantic comedies, and unlike HLP, this show relies far, far less on ecchi fan service to generate laughs (though it isn't entirely devoid of it). FMP? Fomuffu places the socially maladjusted role on the male lead Sousuke, though the reasons he's so awkward are drastically different than those of Chii. He is a human, though he's been an operative of a large scale military mercenary group since a young age. Thanks to that, most of his logic and reasoning are drawn from his experiences on the battlefield and in war. Basically, he never lived the life a normal child would. Given the duty of protecting the female lead, Chidori, he's forced to attend high school and live a civilian life in order to stay close and keep an eye on her. What this leads to is him often blowing even the smallest of problems way out of proportion. For example, at one point he finds a stray hair stuck to his locker and realizes it's been tampered with. His solution? Detonate a C4 and blow it up; there could have been bomb rigged to blow up in there after all. Of course, his general mannerisms carry this same wierdness leading him to be completely oblivious to Chidori's feelings, giving him an air of innocense. It may not be the same type of innocense as Chii, but it is there, and considering his background, the difference makes perfect sense. As for Chidori, I'm just going to throw this out there; she's very quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. Far from being a damsel in distress (despite Mithril deeming a bodyguard necessary), she has a personality similar to Tomoyo's during the first half of Clannad's first season, though she isn't quite as...abusive...towards Sousuke, she isn't afraid to play a little rough in order to teach him how to be civilized. Understandable considering he's doing things like setting up electric shock traps just to protect some baked goods from the possibility of getting stolen. And that's where the story shows some similarities with Chobits. Despite him being there to protect her, Chidori is often saddled with the task of attempting (fruitlessly) to teach Sousuke how to behave like a normal person. This often backfires in spectacular fashion, causing him to go to extremes in trying to solve common, everyday issues. At one point she tries to explain to him that if he wants to get some of the best food from a popular stall before they run out, he has to show some "spirit" in getting through the crowd so he can get what he wants. His solution? Fire a warning shot from a loaded gun and demand the crowd disperse so he can get a roll of bread. Common sense; not his strong point obviously. It leads to more awkward and hilarious situations than you saw in Chobits, and that's a good thing really. That's not to say Chidori doesn't have a soft side; thats where the relationship between the two comes into play. Throughout the show, Chidori tries (again, fruitlessly) to hint at her feelings towards Sousuke, who remains completely unaware of her advances. There are quite a few times where you really feel for her, she tries so hard to get his attention, but all he seems to care about is protecting her...until he starts to realize he has some different feelings himself. And that's really about all there is to the love story, it's nothing too spectacular, but it wasn't really meant to be since this show was an intermediary between the first season of FMP and TSR. Still, Sousuke's loyalty and determination in keeping Chidori safe is more often than not sweet, and the whole thing is similar to Chii's constant attempts at making Hideki happy, though Chidori's tougher demeaner and Sousuke's various absurdities put a unique spin on it. In the end, if you're okay with the lighter romance plot and the roles being assigned to opposite genders this time around, I'm sure Chobits fans will find FMP? Fumoffu an awesome experience...and to be honest, I'd recommend it regardless. Despite being a spin-off of a serious mech action/drama, this show is a huge success as a SoL-ish school action/comedy. Add on the fact that the show is completely watchable without needing to see a single episode of the first FMP season, and you seriously would never know where it got its roots from. read more 

Both take place in a Highschool setting and both focus on comedy. Danshi Koukousei is about random events in the daily lives of the main characters, while Fumoffu is centered around a young soldier being unable to adapt to regular highscool life. But they both have great humour and should make you laugh. 

Both are romantic at some points, school life, and funny i want to say more but no words can explain. If you like school rumble you must like FMP. I will be very disappointed if you had never watch FMP Fumoffu or School Rumble 

Hare Guu is another rare, character-driven Comedy that takes every little detail seriously. Hilarious everlasting. 

Full Metal Panic? was less serious than the Higurashi series but it did have it's suspenseful moments. Both of these series are mostly humor with fan-service... and a tiny bit of plot thrown in for spice. 

Both are very whimsical with absurd premises and some character development. Angel Beats! has a much larger cast than Fumoffu and its main characters also develop more. Additionally, Angel Beats! is fairly sad at points. 

Both shows are episodic and usually have more than one story in one episode. They are mostly focused on comedy. Main characters in both shows are kinda unusual. 

Two parodies that enjoy the controversial personalities of their characters for the creation of great jokes and for the subversion and satires of clichés. They use a nonsense and satiric humor, great for lovers of animes focused 100% in comedy.  

two comedies with school setting, about a newly arrived student/teacher with second identity (soldier and ex gang leader respectively), whose quirkiness and general lack of common sense result in many hilarious antics. 

Both series are hilarious comedies that center around an ultra-dense male character. Nozaki-kun has lots of other characters with relationships that are also very funny. The humor is clean (no gross out stuff). 

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu or Grand Blue With both share the Gag and Slapstick tags as there main style of comedy. In very different ways, which is mainly due to the premise of each anime, they both deliver some serious laugh-out-loud moments. 

Why these two are similar you ask? one is cautious hero, the other one is cautious soldier. simple. the two anime share the same comedy in cautious action. 

I think the main character is really similar in both anime. I also think the humor is kind of similar.  

Centered in a war/violent ridden setting, each of these series brings a lot of humor and slice of life activities to an otherwise dreary place. With major secrets being in place around some major characters, these series seem to have a bit in common. 

Most Comedies fail because they consciously want to be funny or absurd or insane, as opposed to an honest spontaneity of characters merely being themselves -- a sort of anarchy of will. Fumoffu is a masterpiece of Comedy as Art, and no other uncompromising creativity can be seen elsewhere than in Honey and Clover. The punchlines, the exaggerations, the histrionics are all well-timed and natural. Fumoffu especially puts great detail and depth in the script, e.g. a professor not merely wanting to appear like a bore blabbering nonsensical philosophical jargon but actually makes a solid argument in the Alpbach Symposium and the deconstruction of the "frame". It is this apparent high level of intelligence put to work in both series that makes Honey and Clover and Fumoffu more similar than others. Sousuke in Fumoffu instantly reminded of the kind of humor you would see in Cromartie Highschool. If you're itching for more anime like Cromartie, Fumoffu might be the show for you, and vice versa. 

Both funny episodic anime where the lead male protagonist has special abilities (psychic powers/military training) 

If you crave seeing your favorite badass characters in unreal, embarrasing situations - in animal costumes or crossdressing, this is what you're looking for. And if you'll behave like a nice kid, maybe some crazy villain will come out of their way and join this stupid play called fanservice... 

Essentially, both are School/Action/Comedy/Slapstick, and both feature a clueless guy who is really good at fighting, yet is put into awkward situations with a girl. In FMP:F, Sousuke has to protect Kaname for his mission, while in MnH, Seiji has to hide the fact that Midori is his right hand. 

Fumoffu is similar to Ginrei in the whole light-hearted humorous approach to story telling. The humor in Fumoffu is less crude but much more masterful and significant. If you enjoyed the Ginrei Special I suspect you will love the coy playfulness of Fumoffu, even without having watched any of the actual FMP series. 

Much closer than FMP! is it's spin-off. It's a little more comedy oriented, still not as family-watchable, but this matches up with Nadesico on the screwball antics, just with a little less mecha. 

Well! Full Metal Panic and Mayo Chiki aren't too too similar but if you like the fact that someone will do anything to protect another person than this is another good anime for you! On one hand we have a military guy doing the extreme to protect a girl. On the other hand we have a cross dressing butler that will do anything to please and protect their master. Both have fighting but Mayo Chiki is more for the perverted mind and Full Metal Panic is more for the fighting/funny type. 

"Normal" high school girl + Professional assassin/soldier + Social awkwardness = Hilarity. 

They are both comedic and fun filled. Lots of stuff to make you crack up, on the other hand very random at the same time. Plus Bonta-kun and the frogs are very similiar! 

Both are romantic comedies with a loud-mouth girl and her dense bodyguard as the main characters. Either one or both shows are guaranteed to make you laugh. 

Still in the mood for more bizarre episodic adventures in your anime? Look no further! Holding the same madcap slapstick comedy. These shows also share the same hair-trigger characters, ridiculous competitions, and a vicious mascot to boot! 

Both outstandingly fantastic comedies, and probably the two funniest shows I've seen at this point. They both have a light romantic element, and are just downright fun to watch.  

Socially awkward male leading character with female tsundere...and more :) just gotta watch it 

Two mildly serious shows get their wackier content animated. Lots of shenanigans and romantic tension. 

Both are cuts from the original series. They both generally do not have a huge storyline other than the original, however, both are extremely funny. It is recommended that you watch the actual Anime before watching the ONA. The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya may seem short, but it is quick and a fun watch. 

While you shouldn't be watching Fumoffu unless you've already seen FMP!, Lovely Complex and Fumoffu are quite similar. Both are hilarious and center around school life. Both characters have feelings for each other but are way too proud/embarrassed to show them to the other person. Definitely check out one or the other! 

Both have tons of slapstick humor and some charming moments. 

Both have a large amount of humor, both from slapstick and more subtle sources. Also, both have people fighting with amusement park mascots, if you're into that niche. 

Crank up the military otaku jokes from FMP and you get Military!  

Great comedy with both humor and similar characters. 

Both Have a Student Girl punching, kicking and striking the protagonist and these two have a kind of romance. Also, The two protagonists are seen as strange guy. 

Both are school life Animes with tons of comedy scenes and references / parodies to other Animes. Also, some characters are similar: Sonsuke and konata are the main and are fanatics for their tastes. Chidori and Kagami are those who disapprove the attitudes of the protagonist and Tsubaki and Meito Anisawa are hot blooded losers. 

Both make heavy use of violent slapstick comedy and accident pervert antics. This really comes to fruition in both series onsen resort episodes with the men going on hardcore military peeping missions with comrades falling for traps and manly spirit in the air. 

Sousuke Sagara, the male protagonist of Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, is a boy who was raised on the battlefields of war-torn Afghanistan. Although he's an experienced mecha pilot, he lacks basic social skills, and much of the comedy in the series stems from his "fish out of water" experience in trying to adjust to life as a normal Japanese high school student. Jouji Gouda, the male protagonist of Akane Maniax, was obviously born to be the hotblooded pilot with the lead role in a super robot show. Unfortunately for him, he's stuck attending a very normal Japanese high school, and his antics constantly exasperate his peers. read more
