One girl snap at her best friend for absolutely no good reason. Then they fight. Relationship-wise, both can be implied as shoujo-ai. I heard all the times that maiden heart work in mysterious ways. Positively looking this two shows just portray it to the extreme. Ga-rei zero do include why the fight is unavoidable in an interesting non-chronological fashion. BRS however is written in the way that assume audience know everything, making the show sort of a fan fare.

Both feature the alter ego of a young girl fighting strange creatures in a surreal otherworld.

Same school girl life, pretty similar graphic, loads of friendship involved in both shows.

Both anime have similar themes of Friendship and Morals. They also are both dark and psychological with some action scenes. Both series can also be very sad.

So for both magical girl stories are focused around the concept of emotions and both share a dark and downbeat tone throughout the story. And both were also based around notable video game series as well too.

Both movies share very similar art, from the looks of the characters to the fight scenes. Both deals with conflicts among friends or family. Through the whole movie, the main character goes on a journey to fix the problem they had created, with helps from unfamiliar ally/ allies.

Both are about an anime girl who has an alter-ego in a parallel dimension. Through the alternate dimension, the protagonist is trying to save someone else with an alter-ego who is suffering in some way.

In X/1999, Kamui Shirou was friends with Fuuma Monou and as Fuuma's personality gradually change, Kamui tries to retrive his friend to what he really is... Similar to X, Black Rock Shooter doesn't really wish to fight against Dead Master and she wants to retrieve her friend and Mato do the same to Yomi...

Both use Blue Fire as a power

Both animes are very strange and somewhat horrifying at times. They also have the ability to alternate between the mundane and much more intense scenarios. Both have superb characters, though those in BRS tend to be more believable and those in Higurashi tend to be more unique.

Both are deep and beautiful short stories with well-written female protagonists.

Both involve magical girls and multiple worlds. Both have main characters who are happy and well liked. Both main characters try to befriend the socially awkward girl. Both have similar plots involving their friendships. Both get darker and deeper as the series progresses.

At first this two series seem very different, but in the last episode of R.O.D their similarity can be seen. They both have action, and also deals about two friends (in R.O.D partially). One of then turns against the other for unknown reasons (Yomi and Nancy). And also in both of then Yomiko and Mato try to save their friends, but they also have to fight them (not so much Yomiko VS Nancy as Dead Master VS Black Rock Shooter). Finally they are both very dramatic and sad at the end.

Imagine the awesome world of Casshern Sins except instead of 70's character designs fighting each other, we have girls who never get any sunlight in black string bikinis fight each other. Now toss in a massive amount of barely related scenes from a generic high school girls setting that will bore you silly when all you want is to watch those pale chicks in the post-apocalyptic bathroom in black string bikinis fight again Ta-da~! You have Black Rock Shooter

- the main two girls in both series both start off start off as enimies but one ends up saving the other in the end. - While the theme of these anime are different, they both have an aura of mystery where you don't fully understand what is going on until the story is fully unravelled at the very end. This quality is what makes the storytelling of both of them so beautiful.

I thought Black Rock Shooter was very similar to Voices of a distant star. For one, the art was interesting. But story plot wise, They were both about people that were good friends and something took them away from eachother. In Voices of a Distant Star, it literally was distance and in Black Rock Shooter, another character took them apart. They both had quit a bit of action in them too as well as being sad.

BRS reminds me Karas in many ways - there are very dynamic fights, it's kinda surreal, but Karas is more psychedelic and more adult, but I think if you liked BRS you would like Karas.

Stories of friendship. Mato tries her hardest to recover the bond with her best friend Yomi, just as Naruto tries to keep the bond with his dear friend Sasuke.

If you liked the mood and the atmosphere of Ergo Proxy, than you'll find Black★Rock Shooter an interesting anime. I can't ensure so much vibe as in Ergo Proxy, but I think Black★Rock Shooter is really worth watching. Even if it's only for those dark flashes from the shinigami world.

Both of them are one-episode anime that have everyday school life in one scene and action, supernatural in the other. The art is somehow similar too.

Jealousy, sadness... and everything becomes surrounded by darkness. This shows transmit the same message and have similar concepts. If you want to know what the best way to deal with the negative feelings in your heart is, you should watch them both!!

Mato is similar to Yumi. Yomi is similar to Sachiko. Both anime show human relationships develop and also the problems they face. Also both Mato and Yumi would do whatever for their friend. There is also drama in both of them.

Both have a strong point in showing the relationships between protagonists and the others. Almost all their actions in daily life it seems natural and credible. Girls are well-designed. They having clearly characters and also are drew as a cute, but not typical beauty.
