Kuroiwa Medaka ni Watashi no Kawaii ga Tsuujinai

To say that Mona Kawai is cute would be an understatement; she is breathtaking in every single way, and she knows it. At school, she is fawned over by boys and girls alike, and she graciously welcomes it all as a natural reaction to her irresistible charm. That is, until she comes across Medaka Kuroiwa, the boy who is seemingly immune to her overwhelming charisma. She goes out of her way to talk to him and even dials her cuteness up a notch, but no matter what she tries, Mona cannot wipe the scowl off Kuroiwa's face.

Backed into a corner, Mona is forced to use the most devastating weapon in her arsenal: her physical allure. Such drastic measures would leave other boys foaming at their mouths, but Kuroiwa remains unfazed by her attempts. Little does Mona know that the only reason Kuroiwa just barely abstains from succumbing to her charms is because he is training to be a monk and thus trying his best not to be held down by worldly pleasures. As Mona goes all out to entice Kuroiwa, she fails to realize that his unintentional chivalry might just make her fall for him instead.

I can't believe it. I thought it was pretty obvious but i guess not. I feel like i was born exactly for this very moment: to review this anime and let everyone know once and for all if it's worth watching. This anime is a must-watch. it is peak fiction and it is an anime that is going to be remembered for all of eternity. this is without a doubt a great anime. the main character kuroiwa is so inspirational. he is so dedicated to his traditions and culture that he resists the charms that come from the beautiful mona. Kuroiwa is such a great ... and fascinating character. we must all learn from the way that kuroiwa brilliantly and decisively evades mona. he is so smart and tuff. please watch this anime if you have the time. hell, even if you dont have the time make sure to watch this amazing peak fiction because you will be missing out. the way that the animation fluidly moves through the screen and the way that the atoms and particles perfectly align to depict a masterclass piece of fiction is simply motivating and overwhelms my brain. gosh i could cry watching this anime, but i cannot because its not sad. it is a joyful piece of work.

Mixed Feelings

Medaka Kuriowa Is Impervious To My Charms is easily the thrashiest romcom anime of winter 2025, even more than I'm Getting Married To A Girl I Hate In My Class I'd argue. I don't hate this show, I'm fairly amused by it in fact, but I do have to admit there are many MANY problems with it.

plot: 6/10
Mona Kawai is the most popular girl at school, she gets good grades, she has a charming personality, and she looks great. However as you may have guessed, this is a fucking lie and she's actually a narcissistic bitch on the inside because of all the pampering she ... gets. So when a new transfer student comes along named Medaka Kuroiwa, she tries to charm him too. But that doesn't end up working since he just ignores her and always looks fed up when she tries to talk to him. But it turns out it's not because he hates her, it's because he's a practicing monk who refuses to let his dirty thoughts cloud his judgement.

Simple but effective...if you do it right, which this one is very hit or miss with. This whole gimmick can really only go on for so long until it gets stale which it already is. Especially since this plot has been done multiple times. It's like they combined Yamada's First Time with Temple, but managing to be the worst version of both of them. That being said, it still has its moments where it's fun, it helps that Mona is such a bitch, she's definitely the highlight of the show.

characters: 6/10
I'm honestly shocked that this show has the girl as the protagonist this time around, usually the only time that happens is when it's from a shoujo romance, not one of these trashy romcoms with fanservice. I kind of respect it honestly, and like I said, Mona is the highlight. Her attitude is great, when she pretends to be friendly it's great, I just have a soft spot for these bitchy narcissistic characters. I can't say the same about Medaka, he's such a boring character. The whole schtick of him ignoring Mona to clear his mind gets old fast, and that's basically all he has going for him. I like the subversion with Tsubomi where they lead you to believe she's a rival character, but she's actually obsessed with Mona instead...can't wait to meet the rest of the cast.

art/animation: 6/10
I group these two together for most romcoms since they're usually equally the same, and this is no different. It's a romcom, you know what type of art style it'll have, and these don't require the highest level of animation either. Studio SynergyP has been pretty consistent for most of their anime.

conclusion: 6's across the board, it's enjoyable but not great.

About what you'd expect from this kind of plot, also depends on how repetitive it gets. They basically just do the same thing over and over again but with a different romcom trope. The reason I think this is worse than I'm Getting Married To A Girl I Hate In My Class is because that actually has likable characters and the relationship between the main two is pretty cute. Here, Mona and Medaka could not be further apart, this is easily the most one sided romance I've seen yet in a romcom and all this conflict could easily be solved with just one conversation. "hey, Medaka why do you ignore me?" "um...I'm a practicing monk, so I can't allow myself to get too close to girls" "oh, I see...well, I hope we can still be friends! I'll stop trying to seduce you" Fin.

This anime was funny the first episode but started to get exhausting on the second already.

Do you know Teruhashi from Saiki Kusuo ? This is basically a Teruhashi spin-off, without the comedy of Saiki Kusuo. People already hated Teruhashi when it was clearly with a comic purpose, but here, the comedy is of much less quality, so I guess it is much easier to hate this FMC.

Girl is thinking she's the cutest thing in the world, and her objective is to prove her superiority by having her classmate fall for her, because he seems immune to her charms.

It is funny to build something ... around that and that can bring originality to character building, which is the most important aspect on school romance, as you have no world building, neither much story building, as it is basically a school year in Japan.

The issue with this anime is that it does nothing but overuse the same joke over and over again. It's the same trope of having FMC trying to seduce the guy, failing to do so, and blushing at the end to show she's not a total bitch, you know, like the thousands tsundere we already saw in other anime.

It also overuses the ecchi baits here and there, stripping the FMC to seduce the guy she likes but as she's blushing it's alright, she's still not a bitch. I don't remember one episode where we didn't see her in her underwear ?

I am a bit disappointed that it didn't go anywhere else, and when I look at the end of episode 3, I can already see where it is going. It is just gonna introduce more girls that surrounds both the FMC and the guy she's interested in, and create love triangles, squares, pentagones and so on.

In Conclusion, I believe this anime is just a constant loop of Teruhashi skits, with the same jokes, the only difference is that they added boobs to the equation and that the comedy is plain.
