Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou.

Rei Oohashi is a burned-out office worker by day but otome game heroine Rae Taylor by night. After her long workdays, Rei immerses herself in the world of her favorite dating sim, Revolution, as a student at Bauer Kingdom's prestigious Royal Academy. Instead of focusing on the male love interests, Rei obsesses over the romantic rival: the game's villainess, Claire François. One evening, however, Rei's exhaustion catches up with her and she passes away.

When Rei opens her eyes again, she finds herself reincarnated as Rae and in the presence of her beloved Claire. Given this miraculous opportunity, she wastes no time declaring her love for the golden-haired villainess and her endearing attempts at bullying. Winning Claire's heart is no easy feat, especially as the game persistently throws the three male leads at Rae—but she has no intention of allowing the dating sim logic to come between her and the one she truly loves.

I'm in love with the villainess is, for once, exactly what it says on the tin.

A girl re-incarnated into her favorite Otome game. This one plays it straight and has her incarnate as her in-game character, aka the protagonist. Not the villainess, not the super duper hidden boss (why would an otome game have that?!) not one of the side characters. She's 100% the MC.

She just happened to be gay and played the game specifically for the Villainess.

At first I got drawn into the series because of the jokes. English Voice actress for Rae (Hannah Alyea) blew it out of the park with her performance. ... This series is easily one of the better anime dubs out there.

However as the series progressed I started to get invested in Rae's arch. How she used humor to mask her true feelings out of fear of rejection.

I think without the staller voice acting this would have come off as very off putting, not because Rae is gay but because at the start she was too over the top in her pursuit of someone clearly not interested. The Voice actress's talent, the comedy and positive story progression turned it to a lovely and very entertaining series.

I would give this a 9... but they went a bit far with the wincest thing, ew.

Mixed Feelings

The anime was not special at first, but I do love the easy to digest story.
But the villainess backstory and the maid arc is surprisingly really good. It's deep, a little dark, and really interesting. However around the last arc the animation quality, artstyle and even character look suddenly changed, I usually don't mind something like that because I know what happen during the anime production but even so I can't ignore it. The story in the last arc is also so predictable it makes me stupid for thinking 2 step ahead.

It's really strange isn't it where the best story in the show ... is the one that didn't have MC in it

The main character (MC) harasses the protagonist throughout the anime, and it comes across as uncomfortable rather than entertaining or humorous. The behaviour is repetitive, poorly justified, and creates an unpleasant viewing experience. It's frustrating to watch a character's torment be played off as comedy or charm when it simply isn't.

As for the story, it lacks originality and feels like a recycled version of tropes we've seen countless times in the genre. There's no unique hook or twist to keep you engaged, and the plot progression feels predictable and uninspired. It’s as if the creators relied heavily on clichés without putting much effort into fleshing ... out the characters or the world.

The pacing is another major issue. There are long, drawn-out scenes that add nothing to the story, making the episodes feel much longer than they are. I found myself skipping through multiple episodes, hoping for something interesting to happen, but even then, it was a struggle to stay engaged.

The only saving grace of this anime is the art. The visuals are polished, and there are moments where the animation stands out. However, even great art can’t make up for a lackluster story and poorly developed characters.

Overall, this anime is disappointing. The humour falls flat, the narrative is boring, and the pacing makes it difficult to watch. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, and I honestly believe it doesn’t deserve a rating higher than a 6. There are far better options in the genre that offer a more enjoyable and meaningful experience.
