The action of both series going on in ancient China, where it is a total war for the conquest of power and glory, as well as the unification of the nation.

Story about great generals and their brilliant minds. Military strategy at its best, put into action in breathtaking battles. If you are looking for an anime with good character development: watch these two series!

There is war. There are kingdoms. There are leaders. There are GARness and EXTREME fights. Cao Cao looks like Nobunaga. So, yes. both series are about wars. Both set in different countries and time.

These shows both have the same basic plot. Each show having the main characters fighting to rule the lands and having to gain allies along the way, having to show true "manliness" in a lot of the episodes. I'd rate, Souten Kouro being much better as it has more of intellectual aspect where as the, Raoh Gaiden series is more about winning with a punch in the face.

The MC's are similar in their moral ambiguity, uncompromising ideals and the-ends-justify-the-means philosophy.

Both are historicals based in ancient china. Qin's moon is more focused on martial arts while Souten Kouro's action focuses on military type or sword battles. They are both very interesting and contain deep theologies but Qin's Moon might take some getting used to due to its 3d animation. I hated it and even now I still don't like it but I got used to it since the story was interesting. I definitely recommend watching both if you liked either one of them.

Medieval battles set in China, slight fantasy elements but no horror or monsters(apart from the monstrous legendary warriors, and berserk anime does finish just as it goes all 'monsterish') and based more on reality(Sun Tzu's Art Of War etc) and has realistic epic battles consisting of thousand strong armies, genius generals/strategists and unstoppable warriors, betrayal/loyalty/rivalries, political intrigue, philosophical overtones, important and not just throwaway support characters, epic story.. need i go on? A real hidden gem that all berserk fans should enjoy.

The fights are pretty extreme, with a lot of blood. The stories are otherwise totally different and unrelated. Theres just that same EXTREME feeling when there are fights.

Both have a mixture of complex political intruiges and large scale sword & spear era battles all revolving around larger-than-life charasimactic characters.

Both are historical animes about great kings/military commanders--Cao Cao for Souten Kouro and Alexander The Great for Reign.

The art is pretty similar (maybe because of Madhouse's production). Both animes are historical and the action is full of violence, gore and blood.

Souten Kouro ranks high on the GAR (or "manliness") chart, but Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann exceeds it. Both are epic tales of men forging their way in a hostile world, though TTGL goes for comedy sometimes and includes more standard anime elements such as fanservice and giant mecha. If you liked Souten Kouro but wished it was more like a typical anime, give TTGL a spin.
