Medieval stories about an awkward relationship between a regular human male and a female with supernatural/magic powers. They might not share much else, but the similarity in the relationship between the two main characters is palpable.

- both are well-made adaptations of a light novel - both are set within a historical time setting - both feature a dynamic relationship, chemistry, and banter between their lead male and female characters - both have a slower pacing, lots of slice-of-life moments, lots of talking and great writing - beyond mere entertainment, the viewer has a chance to broaden their knowledge as "Apothecary Diaries" delves into the realms of medicine & poisons, while "Spice and Wolf" focuses on economics

Both anime have historical settings but they take very different directions for it. Spice and Wolf focuses on it's characters and the dynamic between the main duo with a somewhat unique journey focusing on merchants to go along with it. While The Raven Does Not Choose It's Master focuses on it's political story and plot while still having a great dynamic between the main duo. Both have some similarities and also some differences, but they're both really good shows in the end and you can't go wrong with either.

Medieval fantasy story about two persons (eventually three in Frieren) traveling northward to go back to somewhere they've been meaning to travel to, whilst having adventures and getting to know more about local communities and about each other. There's a bit of romance in Frieren between the two kids, and Spice and Wolf is all about the romance between the two main characters. Both series are slice of life themed and have a slow-ish pace. The scales are never too high, but still high enough to make you care about the main characters. I haven't finished both series, but I assume both will have a  read more

Both female leads have multifaceted personalities that go beyond surface impressions. Holo and Yoshino have strong inner resolve. They’re confident, clever, and unafraid to assert themselves. Both stories explore relationships in unique and unconventional settings, their tones and narrative approaches are distinct. Spice and Wolf is more philosophical and warm, while Yakuza Fiancé is darker and more dramatic.

Spice & Wolf has a human man and a supernatural goddess woman travelling via wagon and selling goods with a overarching storyline about Holo finding her home. Sugar Apple Fairy Tale has a human girl and a supernatural fairy man travelling via wagon with an overarching storyline about the human becoming successful in her craft. Both stories have the human/supernatural angle, historical feel, and romantic/sexual tension between the main pair.
