Tsundere Akuyaku Reijou Liselotte to Jikkyou no Endou-kun to Kaisetsu no Kobayashi-san

Broadcasting club member Shihono Kobayashi always gushes to her friend Aoto Endou about MagiKoi, an otome game where protagonist Fiene attends the Royal Academy of Magic. But despite the colorful cast, the one character Kobayashi is most obsessed with is the villainess Lieselotte Riefenstahl. Contrary to her rude remarks toward Fiene, Lieselotte longs to be her friend. Lieselotte is also deeply in love with her own fiancé, Prince Siegwald Fitzenhagen—the game's main love interest. Unfortunately, in almost every route, Lieselotte is doomed to a tragic end.

Kobayashi manages to convince Endou to play MagiKoi to practice his speaking skills. What begins as a normal playthrough turns extraordinary when Siegwald suddenly hears the players' voices inside the game! Now labeled as "gods," Endou and Kobayashi use their comments and analyses to save their beloved tsundere villainess from her fated demise.

This was a surprisingly fun take on the villainess show formula. It mixes it up by having players interact with the world instead of reincarnate into it, which initially gives the show some fun parody energy, and develops into some interesting dynamics later on. While it's not the deepest show around, the execution was pretty good. I laughed out loud many times, was surprised at the twists, and got invested in the romance.

The Japanese voice cast is pretty top-class too. Lots of iconic veterans here, putting in solid performances. The animation wasn't anything too special but they did more than the bare minimum so it ... didn't really hold the show back either.

It may still be sort of a filler show, but overall I'd rate it as binge-worthy and genuinely fun enough to be worth your time.

Mixed Feelings

So what can I say?! There is no doubt that this anime is different. It really attracted me from the first episode and made me want to watch this anime until the end. And I saw... I can't really say that the story was boring, but sometimes I was embarrassed to see it 😂. But it was not bad at all. I like experiencing different stories. This is the main reason for my interest in watching anime. And now an otome game style story that is connected with the real world of anime and the characters of the ... real world can monitor and control the game world and even communicate with the game characters. I didn't really understand some relationships. But as I say, probably the only thing that attracted me to this anime was its different story that makes the viewer watch the end of the anime. I also liked Liz's character. The characters of the so-called Sondere are created to attract the attention of the viewer and to win their hearts. Anyway, let's move on to measuring the criteria. The story was different and not bad. The animation was tolerable. The sound was ok. And finally, the characterization was almost good. Overall, this anime was an interesting experience.

A Disappointing Dive into Meta Otome Chaos

“Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte” starts with a promising concept but quickly stumbles into mediocrity due to poor execution and wasted potential. With a meta-narrative blending otome game tropes and commentary, the anime had every opportunity to shine but instead delivers a frustratingly shallow experience.

Animation and Art: A Lackluster Presentation

The animation feels dated and uninspired, with action sequences relying heavily on clichéd speed lines that fail to convey any real energy. Character designs are generic, blending into the sea of similar shows, and the background art lacks detail or charm. Moments that should feel ... dramatic or romantic are undercut by stiff movements and unimpressive visuals. For an anime that deals with heightened emotions and fantasy, its presentation is far too bland.

Sound and Voice Acting: Forgettable at Best

The soundtrack does little to elevate the story, with repetitive and forgettable tracks that barely complement the scenes. While some of the voice actors attempt to breathe life into the characters, their efforts often fall flat due to weak direction. Key emotional moments lack the gravitas or sincerity needed, resulting in performances that feel either overblown or indifferent.

Characters: Archetypes Without Depth

Lieselotte, the titular tsundere villainess, is meant to evoke sympathy and charm, but her character never rises above tired clichés. Her interactions with other characters often feel forced, making it difficult to connect with her struggles. Meanwhile, the supporting cast exists largely as plot devices, offering little development or memorable traits. Endo and Kobayashi, the supposed driving forces behind the narrative, contribute little beyond exposition, leaving their roles hollow and unimpactful.

Story: A Premise Wasted on Weak Execution

The idea of influencing an in-game world from the outside is creative, but the series squanders this potential with uneven pacing and clumsy storytelling. The meta-commentary on otome games, which could have been sharp and insightful, comes across as half-baked and superficial. Instead of exploring its themes with nuance, the story plays it safe, leaning on predictable tropes and contrived plot twists.

Conclusion: A Missed Opportunity

“Endo and Kobayashi Live!” could have been a clever and engaging addition to the otome and isekai subgenres, but it falters on almost every front. With lackluster animation, forgettable sound design, shallow characters, and a squandered premise, the show feels like a chore rather than a joy to watch. While it might appeal to die-hard fans of otome tropes, it offers little for anyone seeking depth or innovation. I gave this anime a 4/10 for its wasted potential and inability to deliver on its ambitious concept.
