Two stories about grief, growing up, and friendship. (With two beautiful soundtracks, too.)

Both are survival stories about school kids who happened to drift away in a building.

Both are Whimsical Adventure Films That Are at Their core More About the Hearts of their Characters than the fantastical Journey. and how the Journey Effects and Changes Them Along the Way.

Mom: We have "Drifting Home" at home. Aside from commonalities with their stories partly set in a soon-to-be demolished apartment block that looks remarkably similar, both movies involve grade-schoolers and tackle dealing with loss and moving on with the past. One notable difference is that "Bokura no Yoake"'s plot has lower stakes.

Both concern children/teenagers with a lot of action and emotions and the sets are a little bit similar, with abandoned buildings

These two features a large cast of young characters deciding to explore a mysterious and abandoned location, intentionally/ unintentionally. and ended up getting trapped there due to some sort of disasters The characters both have a similar attitude, stupid, dumb, and love to start arguments with each other, with one being similarly designed and even one being from said mysterious place, where they share about their internal struggles that brought them here. They also play into a bit of horror elements too

Everyone deals with loss in their own way, but children often have more trouble dealing with these emotions. Drifting Home and A Letter to Momo deals with this subjects, and include supernatural elements into their storylines. You will surely enjoy these movies, but A Letter to Momo is the better movie.

Did you enjoy Drifting Home or Kiznaiver for using introspection in their main storylines? Drifting Home and Kiznaiver are about students experiencing an unbelievable event that causes physical and emotional pain. Of the two, Kiznaiver is more melodramatic as their experience is planned to create conflict. Drifting Home has more natural conflict that comes from survival. Ultimately, both anime cover similar themes of friendship, loneliness, and sympathy.

How do you move on from loss? Children often internalize their pain and blame themselves. Drifting Home and Child of Kamiari Month explore this subject while using supernatural elements in their storylines. Child of Kamiari does have pacing problems and Drifting Home does lack development for certain characters, but both movies are still worth watching.

Drifting Home and Spirited Away are coming of age stories in which children are transported to an otherworldly place where they face difficulties and learn life lessons. Few movies can compare to the fantasy worlds of the best Miyazaki movies, but Drifting Home can deliver a life lesson just as well. You might even respond to the emotional beats with tears.

When a supernatural event forces a group of classmate to have a shared experience that can have harmful consequences, they must confront their own thoughts and emotions so that everyone can survive together. Drifting Home and Kokoro Connect deals with similar themes about friendship, sympathy, and growing up. If you liked Kokoro Connect but found it melodramatic then Drifting Home should provide a better balance. Drifting Home does not provide as much attention to each character, but its narrative and plotline is mainly focused on two characters.
