ChäoS;HEAd

Throughout Shibuya, a series of murders dubbed the "New Generation Madness" gained widespread attention As these crimes gained infamy, they became a hot topic of discussion among the people of the area. Nonetheless, these "New Gen" murders do not capture the interest of Takumi Nishijou, a high school otaku who frequently experiences delusions and feels that he is constantly being watched.

Having no concern for the real world, Takumi spends his time playing online games and watching anime. However, his ordinary life is disrupted when he receives a horrifying image of a man staked to a wall from a user named Shogun. After calming himself at an internet cafe, Takumi sees the exact same murder scene as the image portrayed happen right before his eyes, along with a pink-haired girl covered in blood calling out his name.

Conflicted with the nature of reality, Takumi finds it difficult to judge where to place his trust as he gets caught up in the "New Gen" murders, believing that the murderer is out to get him.

Warning! Warning! If you think this is a normal harem kinda anime turn back now! I watched this show when I was younger and had finished the likes of Rosario + whatever and Highschool double DxD. Then I found this… it is closer to a horror movie without the horror elements or a psychological show but nothing is ever explained or makes sense. I honestly felt like I had no concept of time watching this show and not in a good way. With all that said…its not bad, but definitely be prepared for this thing. The best way to describe this show is ... with a scenario. Let’s say you have just moved to a new house, but when you get there the house next door is a bouncy castle and its residents are sentient mannequins who also don’t know what’s going on… Enjoy.

Mixed Feelings

to be frank, C;H had the real potential of becoming a masterpiece, and it kinda did.. or did it?

i’m a massive SciAdv fan, played all the visual novels and slowly but steadily recovering them all, therefore i rate my knowledge as “fair”.

As several other reviews stated, the anime adaptation and the visual novel don’t really match up like in other chapters of the series, and it’s undeniably true.
although the storyline in the original visual novel was damn near perfectly paced, this anime adaptation suffered from the “too much in too little time” syndrome, a disease that sadly affects way too many titles, pressing a 50 ... hour gameplay with several possible endings in a 12 episode 24 min each format (including op and ed) is arguably impossible and this is no exception.

from a complete stranger’s standpoint i’d have trouble keeping up with the sheer amount of things happening in this little time, undeniable plot holes that were necessary to stay in the 12 episode format (due to contracts, as always happens)

putting my bias aside, i still think this product was honestly fine, the unbearable tension translated very well, also thanks to the mastermind behind the soundtrack, also known as Takeshi Abo.
good animation (don’t forget it came out in 2008, some people watching this weren’t probably even born in 2008) great voice acting (sakikabara yui please marry me, even though she didn’t have many lines).

to conclude, i personally have mixed feelings on this, especially knowing the source material very well, but if anyone wants further information about said plot holes, answers on the interwebs are readily available, it’s a well known series.

Thought I'd got through the other Science Adventures, thank god I didn't start with this one or might have done the lot.
Did Stein;Gate years ago when it was all the rage, and it was great having that weekly release.
Have since done Robotics and Occultics - neither on the same level but watchable.

This on the other hand... you hear there's a lot wrong with it and they aren't wrong.
Animation and Voice Acting is great (except the extra squeeky voiced one - get in the bin with this crap continued dubbing).
But it's the story - it's just not engaging and really badly paced.
First episode is great and ... then off the cliff it goes and pretty much flatlines. Even when you get revelations they just don't land.

Oh OP and ED music is unmemorable generic anime.
