Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal Movie 2

The threat of the Dead Moon Circus still looms over Usagi Tsukino and the Sailor Guardians. Driven into a corner, the Earth plunges further into darkness as nightmares continue to spread. The Outer Sailor Guardians sense that something is amiss when the young Hotaru Tomoe begins to rapidly age following the total solar eclipse. Believing that their prince and princess are in danger, the four reawaken their powers once more to reunite and aid their fellow Sailor Guardians.

Due to the influence of the eclipse, Usagi and Mamoru Chiba's conditions begin to worsen, causing their powers to deteriorate. Without their leader, the Guardians are at a loss as to what they should do next. Frustrated by the situation, Hotaru and Chibiusa set off on their own to confront the Amazoness Quartet, who have been causing the brunt of the chaos thus far. As Queen Nehelenia's liberation quickly approaches, the Sailor Guardians are running out of time to stop her.

FINALLY we've been blessed with these two films. For those who were waiting for this arc to have it's reboot, the wait has been, like their tittle, eternal. But I'm glad I'm here now to give my opinion about them after all these years.

One of the things I'm not very happy about them is that I'm still not convinced that the movie format was the best for it. Specially in the first film, you can clearly see that episodic style and how the original manga chapters were made. Even though I've read the manga I believe everyone could notice that. If they would have ... made a 8-9 episode series it could have been better. But who knows.

Anyway, I also don't agree about the animation quality. The problem isn't that the production doesn't seem to be made during 5 long years, but I'd directly said it has too many flaws to be a film. Normally anime films are more detailed and cared.

But, of course, I'm not saying these two are bad films. As always in Sailor Moon, we've got a very emotional and bittersweet story with lots of action, love, and superpowers. And it's a really pleasure to finally see a Sailor Saturn's transformation sequence. If you are a Moonie, you'll obviously enjoy this so much.

Mixed Feelings

My main issue was not the pacing or the animation, the art style was fine. My problem with the Eternal films is that the music score by Yasuharu Takanashi is atrocious and does not suit the atmosphere and storytelling. The bland chorus bits were especially off-putting. I am aware the original composer Takanori Arisawa has sadly passed away and it's hard to replicate his work but there could have been a better choice out there.
The second half of the Eternal films has nicer, more detailed animation compared to the first, it flows pretty well. The colour palette is ... also very nice.
I would say it leaves out too much from the manga in terms of atmosphere. Not sure why it keeps being repeated ad nauseam that the remake follows the manga, because it really censors a lot of the more gruesome scenes which is a major disappointment
The villain Nehelenia is actually very interesting with a cool backstory which never gets explored and she never feels threatening at any point. It's all very plain vanilla.
I can't rate this more than a 6 overall despite the effort. I am still hoping they would allow the rights to a better studio who can revive this series and stay true to the source material whilst adding very important character development and expanding on villains a bit more

Honestly, this arc is not its job if Chibiusa doesn't get thrown down an ever climbing platform with Usagi jumping after her.

And why th are adult vision-Chibiusa's curles behind her ear yellow instead of pink? Since it's her hair.

This whole Crystal business relies way too much on side art, which isn't canon elements developed in the manga, instead of the heart of the story. I wanted to see a far more connected story. The screenwriters continue to overlove Minako and underlove Rei as they have done throughout all of Crystal. I have no hope for Cosmos.

Not to mention all that listing off of names is ... so cringe... Mercury...... Mars...... Jupiter...... Venus...... Uranus...... Neptune...... Pluto...... Saturn...... Ceres...... Pallas...... Juno...... Vesta..... Pegasasu...... Eriosuuu......
