It's good when it gets personal. Though essentially, what works in the manga doesn't work in anime and vice versa.
Example: the races aren't that fun to read as they're in anime. Navigating around different racers POVs can be confusing and sometimes dragging on too much. The manga loses its pace that way. In the car jargon, it loses its grip on the reader.

But when the story goes into the car culture and surrounding area context, like Mt. Fuji's impact on racing circuits, things suddenly get all the more interesting. The same applies to field trips that characters take. They bond in relation to their very ...

I have caught up with this anime after finishing a rewatch of my beloved Initial D :)

To sum it up, it does not have the style and sound of the original (nothing beats the sound files and these hand-drawn backdrops) but it does improve on the things that were not perfect in Initial D, meaning:
- the races are fun and engaging, following a couple of drivers instead of focusing on doghfights, like the original, which gives a sense of variety
- the races aren't talky, in fact they are quite well-balanced in terms of theory and action
- the track choice is great (no change here, Initial ...

This anime is a burning hot mess of great ideas and failed executions. Chaotic storytelling certainly doesn't help it. I'm really sad about how it turned out. References to Asimov, Blade Runner, Outlaw Star, Mars, Venus, black holes and aliens... So how come most of the spotlight is taken by two extremely annoying and boring characters who get worse and worse by episode? Why is it their relationship that gets most of the screen time and not other plots and problems that are infinitely more appealing? I just can't understand it. I'm so disappointed. Ugh.

In some way this series is similar to Carole and Tuesday ...

This movie is a curiosity! Full of interesting ideas on a conceptual level and breathtaking visuals. It's an ode to space exploration and exploration theme prevails (especially visible in the introduction sequence). As such, the emphasis is much more on mystery and discovery process than on suspense and action and this is where the critique, I believe, is coming from. Still, the fans of hard sci-fi and space exploration will be satisfied. I was.
The story is quite original. The music is also fitting and the editing is very rhythmic (resulting in some gripping sequences). The scientific aspect of the movie is convincing as well. The ...

I'm a die-hard fan of the games and here's a review from my point of view directed at people who grew up with these games like me :)

Disadvantages:
- bland cast
- little to no game lore (the gauntlet is only shown once gathering souls, the genma are not explained)
- no straighforward references to other games (like, was the gauntlet stored by someone appointed by late Samanosuke/ Tenkai? Arin?), no recurring characters nor villains that were the backbone of the games
- everything is centered on Miyamoto Musashi whose historical conflict with Kojiro Sasaki overshadows the whole story (the dude just might be the historical ...

At this moment I have seen four works by Yuuasa and came to like him a lot for his vision. Every one of his films brings in something new to the mix and this has been the case here as well.

This is a story on healing power of art and stories. The music and lyrics serve as exorcism and hold a strong appeal. A multi-faceted story on freedom of expression and what happens when you suppress it. As with other Yuuasa's works, you will find a lot of psychological undertones which sometimes take serious and graphic form, but it adds to the power of ...

I absolutely love this anime.

This series follows a manga which is currently being released. Each season covers 4-5 volumes.

I heard voices of criticism that this anime is too 'squandered' instead of just going forward with love plot.

I will risk a brave hypothesis and say that love as in, romantic feeling between people, is just a premise to something bigger. This might not be visible in anime, but if you read the manga you'll see that it focuses much more on the scientific world and the way science types see the world and express themselves. Which is really revolutionary because scientist representations in media ...

One of the best shoujo anime (and maybe even anime in general) I've ever seen, where do I even start?

Story-wise, this is a retelling of an old legend called sealskin, soulskin analyzed by Clarissa Pinkola Estes in her book Running with the Wolves. To sum it up, it's a story about women and how they lost their freedom and soul to patriarchate and all kinds of other oppressive, outside forces.

This is what Ayashi no Ceres is. It's a powerful archetypal story about women, and the wild woman inside us. It's a story about the emotions, feelings, personal truth and accepting ourselves. Filled with ...

I am a bit biased because I love the Saika Ikki theme in Japanese history.

While anime in itself is pretty bland, I watch this for the travelogue after end credits :)

Still, it's nice to see someone took up Saika Ikki and made an anime/ manga/ show about them, because they lack attention in all the Sengoku Jidai- themed media. You can only see them in video games and that's about it. They were a pretty cool group and they definitely need more recognition! Hell, I once did a manga spinoff of a game where they appeared to explore their story because I was ...

This anime would be so much better if it wasn't for Takanashi's music. I swear, you can hear Fairy Tail all through this. It really eats away at the experience. How can I dig into these fights if I'm reminded about Fairy Tail's ridiculousness all the time? Now don't get me wrong, this guy is a good fit for less serious tones, but this calls for someone like Go Shiina or Hiroyuki Sawano.

Now for the story and the animation - it gets better with time, the first fight being the most stereotypical shounen thing. But Adam and Kojiro's duels are really fun to watch. ...
