Both are Sanrio anime that have a focus on people's dreams. They feature talking plushie-esque animals from a magical land coming to the human world and partnering with a group of girls. To avoid spoilers, the best way to put it is that a lot of the characters and situations are so similar they feel like they were intentionally borrowed from Onegai My Melody for Mewkledreamy.

Every time I see the opening of Mewkledreamy it instally reminds me of Time Travel Girl. They have a very happy vibe to them, similar beautiful color shades and share a story where high school girls fight evil.

Both are magical girl shows and have cute magical cats.

Both follow the magical girl formula to a T. Both have an episodic format that is heavily structured. Both have a similar art-style with bright colors and a generally cheerful appearance. CCS is more than 20 years older. It is accordingly slower paced. Mewkledreamy is more "hyper", and its "cute" factor is way more extreme than CCS.

Both this series are from Sanrio and both of them are magical girls series with lots of love triangles based around the main character. They are cute, funny and care free! Also they share the same ‘cute mascots doing cute and magical things’ pattern!

Fairly long children's shows that feature a girl in school taking care of cute plushy-like creatures that have magic in them too. Character archetypes are quite similar between both shows and use 3D CGI where needed but mainly consist of 2D type drawings. Both are full of silly fun everyday life but what makes them different is that Cocotama is generally more normal whereas Mewkledreamy has some of the humans being magical girls/boys along with this being a slight more romance heavy compared to Cocotama.

With a lot of the same staff working on both shows, they share a similar animation and comedy style. Mewkledreamy is lighter and more episodic, but has the same wholesome warmth. There is also a few references to Machikado Mazoku hidden away if you keep an eye out.
