Rei and Tomoya are both guys with troubled pasts who are "saved" by a girl they both care a lot for, Hina and Nagisa. They both also spend a lot of time with families who are not their own but treat them as such, the Kawamotos and the Furukawas. A lot of heart and emotion are put into both series. Even though After Story takes place over several years and Sangatsu only takes place over a few months, they're both equally effective in conveying emotions that anyone can relate to. I see people trying to argue that one is better than the other which makes no  read more

Both take a deeper approach on the subject of bullying and the effect it plays on the victim. While Koe no Katachi focus' more on the aftermath of bullying and redemption, Sangatsu 2nd Season focus' more on the actual events of bullying and dealing with it atm.

-The protagonists have similar sort of introverted personalities -Their outlook changes eventually after meeting other characters and new rivals

Amaama to Inazuma crries the same "overcoming great sadness through a supportive environment" kind of feeling. It's not as deep sometimes, but it's a nice anime that warms up your heart.

Both are about traditional Japanese table top games, both protagonists are surrounded by people who are supporting them emotionally, both make a club dedicated too said game, and the main characters considered professionals in their leagues.

Two depressed/ill individuals (Magara and Nakami/Hinata and Rei) find comfort in one another and engage in new hobbies with one another. Their presence supports the other.

Both of these series focus on an orphaned or abandoned high school student living alone. These are heavy Iyashikei dramas focused on the main character coming of age. Each has excellent music and sound and use of color in the animation. The main characters struggle to overcome painful trauma from childhood, and eventually develop friendships and community with the help of the adults in their lives.

They have drama too and a good direction, as well both touches deeper/darker topics

Both Anime has very Likeable Characters. The main protagonists are intelligent, reserved and were loners at the beginning. I think people with similar personality might like both. And also, both have uniquely Great Animation and Soundtracks.

Both have characters struggling with their personal problems, as well both touch some deep/dark themes and their well-handled, i think the most similarity in between is that both got such human characters that you can empathize just by their development which is amazing and satisfactory.

If you liked the beautiful directing and animation of Bakemonogatari or the Monogatari series as a whole, you would LOVE the directing/animation in 3-gatsu no lion or March comes in like a lion and vice versa. They are both animated by shaft and are both amazing and tackle different themes and totally different plots as Gatsu isn't a supernatural anime but the amazing directing and magnificent animation is definitely something I can compare and they are both top notch. (Note that i'm not comparing the art style but the quality of the animation.)

March Comes in Like a Lion and Dear Brother are prominent examples of Synesthesia extracted from manga. Analyzing their visuals, it is clear that the use of colour and sound describing other kinds of sensory or even mood, consequently amplifying the expression implied by the art techniques found previously in their sources' black and white panels - such as the 'bubbles' used in a lot of 3-gatsu no Lion pages, also considerably common on Ikeda's work, along with her extravagant highlights and distortions - can be compared in the means they reflect these tendencies Riyoko Ikeda brought to the genre, but for the audiovisual, and interestingly  read more

Very similar down to earth Slice of Life anime. Teaches you a lot of human lessons in a very caring and thoughtful way through the protagonist struggles and how they deal with them. I would currently only recommend watching the original, as the new one is a re-creation of the old, and again it's one of those scenerios where the director wanted to put their own style and flair on how they think the story should of been which means it's not the same and you miss out on somethings for the sake of "modernization" - old is gold.... remember that

There is a high level of real life relates you will feel as watching them both.

Slice of Life is very similar because of the internal struggles the characters go through. While 3-gatsu was really sad at times, Barakomon was really funny. Both characters being anxious and awkward in their own ways played out. Both had that down to earth vibe that makes you want to watch it over and over again

- While both tell different stories.. they have similar themes such as: overcoming depression, understanding human emotions, finding where you belong etc.. -Both give you the same feelings... and both are from the same mangaka

They show that supportive cast are really important to have during your life.

The way both series present their characters' emotional experiences is very similar to me. The second season of 3-gatsu no Lion especially reminds me of Kono Oto Tomare! because of the bullying arc. Both series portray people's needs to be accepted into a group, the pain they feel from rejection and alienation because of a talent they have (in the case of Rei Kiriyama and Satowa Houzuki) and the tendency of hurt people to hurt people (in the case of Megumi Takagi and Hiro Kurusu). Overall, the theme of people's need for connecting to one another is very prevalent in both shows.

Standing up for others and dealing with bullies, finding self confidence in midst of it. I believe both series focus on this topic and are rather well written. So if you are looking for series that deals with school bullying, these might be it.
