The first ending of Taruruuto-kun uses a certain approach to shading that is very unique and hardly present anywhere else, one of examples being California Crisis

While the storylines don't really share anything in common, both of these forgotten OVAs share a certain approach to shading that you can't see almost anywhere else.

Both of these anime have stylized 80's city pop style reflected in their approach to shading, among other things

They depict hollow dreams, using similar symbolism.

Both have distinct styles and are basically car chase movies. Both pay tons of homage to American cinema and have awesome soundtracks.

"California Crisis: Gun Salvo" / "California Crisis: Tsuigeki no Juuka" and "There Goes Tomoe!" / "Tomoe ga Yuku!" tell stories of a young man and a young woman meeting each other under extreme conditions where their lives are in danger and must escape from deadly pursuers using every bit of their skills. Conspiracies and treacherous secrets are behind the reasons as to why the protagonists have been thrust into their dangerous situations. In addition, both anime contain action.

Both anime are short one episode OVAs with a simple and linear plot, and a same style of storytelling. Also, the under budget-ness and the similar style music the OSTs have give these two anime a similar atmosphere.

Pertaining only to Exodus, not Third Aerial Girls Squad: Both are about escaping from law enforcement with a happy-go-lucky tone. Feature some great chase scenes.

hommage to the popculture a la 1985

They're both fucking crazy, and awesome because of it. They also both have weird ass art styles.
