These series take place in a dystopian setting where nobody knows what horrific direction technology will end up taking, but both series live up to the dystopian genre with the dark mood permeating everything.

Very similiar. Like one and you'll like the other.

While these two anime are not meant for the same audience (Dragon Ball is Shonen and Goku: Midnight Eye is not), both anime are initially inspired by Journey to the West. In both anime, the main protagonist wields a length-changing staff and battles against powerful enemies. Both anime are action-packed as well. If you like one, you should probably like the other.

Similar style narrator, Armitager III having none other than Kiefer Sutherland, who narrated call of duty: world at war. Goes perfectly with the old school cyberpunk anime theme.

While the setting and tone of these two cheesy, action-packed '80s OVAs differ substantially -- "Battle Royal" is gorier and is set in a high school, while "Midnight Eye" takes place in a darker, futuristic cyberpunk world -- both of them include plot elements that seem straight out of Mad Libs due to how outlandish they are.

Both are 80's OVA's that take place in a cyberpunk city, with the MC fighting against androids.

Both series have dark main charachters that you can't help but root for. They both live in futuristic societies, and are both really enjoyable to watch. One other similarity would be that in the English Dub Gokuu and Spike have the same voice actor. Because of that, Midnight Eye: Gokuu made me feel like I was watching another Cowboy Bebop episode

a lot of ova's in the 80's and 90's were based on futuristic idea's and cyberpunk movie's, with groundbreaking concepst like these 2 ova's . hiatus or not, golden classics!

Something about Ai City to me felt like it was another creation straight from Buichi Terasawa, heavily known for his Space Adventure Cobra series and Goku Midnight Eye. The dark city visuals, action, cyborg villains, and cyberpunk aesthetics of Ai City reminded me of Midnight Eye the most. If you want some good classic short sci-fi fun these are awesome.

Both are based off manga's by Buichi Terasawa and have very similar vibes and storytelling. Goku himself is very much like Cobra and they both posses in a way, a "power" or ability that gives them an edge when it comes to fighting. Great action, adult themes (Goku gets away with more being an OVA), very cool sci-fi settings, familiar imagery, etc.
