Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou has a very similar atmosphere. Both have magical girls fighting something like a monster.

Both of them are dark magical girl animes where pure and innocent girls fight to defeat powerful enemies that can cause destruction in the world. The fighting takes place in an alternate dimension which can have affects on the real world if things go awry.

Another dark magical girl anime with girl vs girl action, blood and sacrifice. Both have compelling plots and a lot going for them. Though they are both along the lines of magical girl tragedy each offers a unique twist. Day Break Illusion explores manipulating the magic if tarot cards while Magical Girl Rising Project explores the possibility that not only can little girls become magical girls, but full grown women, and even men can as well! I love both and reccomend either full-heartedly.

Both are not your average magical girl show, as they portray the dark side of that it really means to be a 'hero of justice'. Darkness exists because happiness exists.

People compare Gen'ei to Madoka, but honestly, it reminds me more of Symphogear. Cute girls with cute character designs must fight evil beings that live in their world. Both are more violent than the premise and art would suggest. The plot is much closer to sci-fi/fantasy than "magical girl".

The atmosphere feels the same with the fights and the story buildup.

There is something regarding the bright color pallets and how each are put down in a slightly different manner on screen, yet still despite the brightness maintain a dark feel. The characters, while the stories contain some fluffy moments have the potential to bring about strong emotions regarding the dark subject matter, leaving the viewer routing for the team of heroes, but looking for that special magic to save everyone.

Both involve a Magical Girl awakening to the power of cards and the main characters in both are sweet, kind-hearted girls who aim to be helpful in the loss of their mothers. Both series also share very impressive and original art. Their styles are not similar to each other, but they are both very well done for their respective time periods.

Both Mai-Hime and Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou details of young girls who has acquired supernatural battles to battle against specific monsters that appears throughout the series. Through experience, they fight for what they believe in and their abilities are enhanced as the series progresses. The main female protagonist in both series are determined and often willing to help in others in need. There is some additional element of romance in Mai-HiME. However at the same time, both series makes progresses in character relationships. There is also senses of emotions later on in both series as well.

Both are psychological violence that have characters with cute designs are overtaken by fatal violent encounters.

At first it looks like it's cute girls doing cute things, but its quite far from that. Both anime have slight hints of yuri and have a large amount of girls. The main lolis are voiced by the same VA. Cards are the source of power. They have to fight monsters with the power of cards. Both have a rather dark atmosphere.

Even though these shows are being described as "cute moe girls," you might want to think twice before watching them. In the series, it is known to be darker and grittier portrayal where characters uses cards, either on battle or by survival. This is a challenge to the characters where they test their skills and survive through the rounds. The show also deals with Psychological themes, where they have strange images in their heads and must handle their courage. Day Break Illusion, follows a group of girls, who are trained to fight against the evil beings that are threatening the world. Selector Infected WIXOSS, is based  read more

In both anime they use tools that represent their power, personalities, and who they are. Both are magical girls, use a tool to transform and their both in groups

The protagonists of both series have supernatural powers (in Day Break Illusion, they're magical girls, and in Red Garden, they died and were resurrected) they use to kill human beings that have transformed into monsters. They are also ordered about by a shadowy organization they know little about, and sometimes they try to rebel, and both series explore the emotional toll of their battles. The girls of Day Break Illusion attend a secret school and are guided by adult Elemental Tarot users, but the girls of Red Garden don't have that kind of support as they try to pretend to lead normal lives  read more

Day Break Illusion and Madoka Magica are incredibly similar in their dark magical girl like taste but they also manage to be quite different. Both series contain a kind hearted girl who relunctantly becomes a magical girl and ends up learning the disturbing fate behind their new role. Both series revolve around sacrificing one's own being for the greater good of humanity.

Am I really the only one who doesn't understand how no one thought Day Break Illusion was similar to the Persona franchise? Both of these anime are taking place in present times with simple yet beautiful students developing and using tarot cards to fight "Shadow" like creatures appearing in a parallel world that also affect the real world. Day Break Illusion mainly focuses on the fight scenes and the dialogue between the main character and his enemies, which is interesting due to how guilty they felt over their actions. Their tarot cards power are portrayed to magical girls. Meanwhile, in Persona 4, there's a whole mystery to be  read more

Both share the topic about "existentialism", but with different approaches. Characters die and their memory is erased from the earth. In both the main character is a girl who fight with supernatural powers, and also both have grim turns of events even though the art style can be considere "cute".

Call me crazy, but as much that I see it more like the shock value and suspense as "PMMM" or "Higurashi" (for the cute-style factor with blood), but Daybreak Illusion had the three following things: The girls are taking role as "exorcists" killing the Daemonia, whom they are monsters that used to or take form from their human vessels. Akari is like the Allen Walker of the group with the ability to hear the souls from the monster's vessel. Also that once you are in their "academy", there's no turning back just like the pre-Koumi era of D.Gray-Man's "Black Order".

A world in crisis and decay, where little girls with powers risk their own lives in deadly fights against ugly monsters, in order to protect normal people. Adults and villains are often really cruel with the girls. These ones don't have any warranty or reward for their good actions.

The main characters believe they are doing the right thing, killing evil monsters. But are they really doing the right thing? Or are they being manipulated by an hidden mastermind?

Both anime give a some what familiar vibe and both of them have to do with Arcana (Tarot Cards) giving them different abilities of each cards

Both series have almost all-female casts (at least, all the main characters are female), and feature magical girls trying to defeat a mysterious enemy. Leviathan is more light-hearted, with more fanservice, and takes place in a fantasy medieval-ish setting, though.

In both of these animes we see relatively innocent lolis working in teams as part of a large organization to take down monsters such as Daemonia or Dragons. I won't spoil much of what happens in Genei, but it follows a similar theme to each girl having a unique match. Unlike Fafnir, Genei seems to be less focused on having overwhelmingly powerful enemies and instead focuses more on darkness and the people manipulating Daemonia and what mind games they use. Unlike Genei, Fafnir has more of a harem vibe because it features a leading male character. Genei has no male protagonist.

Both animes involve people teaming up to risk their lives fighting powerful monsters.

Gen'ei wo Kakeru Taiyou is nearly a clone of Silent Mobius, with more up to date art. The last few episodes particularly had exactly the same plot points, so if you enjoyed one of them you're fairly sure to enjoy the other. Or rage, depending on which one you watch first.

Both of these great anime revolve mostly around cards. Genei uses tarot cards to defeat the demonia and keep the world safe, while in Yu-Gi-Oh! they use duel monsters cards and play in shadow duels to try and keep the world safe.
