Both Mai-Hime and Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou details of young girls who has acquired supernatural battles to battle against specific monsters that appears throughout the series. Through experience, they fight for what they believe in and their abilities are enhanced as the series progresses.
The main female protagonist in both series are determined and often willing to help in others in need.
There is some additional element of romance in Mai-HiME. However at the same time, both series makes progresses in character relationships. There is also senses of emotions later on in both series as well.
