Both have cartoonish character styles paired with contrasting dramatic storylines that explore a unique fantasy world.

In both anime there are children who accidentally find themselves stuck in an alternate world and must look for a way to go back to their own.

In Birthday Wonderland a girl goes to another world, there they name her a 'Goddess', in strange dawn two girls go to a world where they are also treated as such. In both the MC/s isn't/aren't really sure why they get this name and also don't feel up to the task immediately. The Main Characters in these all at some point wish to go home. Strange dawn features a bunch of tiny people whereas in Birthday Wonderland there's only really one that stands out. You can see a unique world in either of the shows with lots of crazy things happening..

Both explore unique fantasy worlds with cute cartoonish characters that are exposed to death and violence. Made in Abyss is more about exploration and setting, Strange Dawn is more about war policy and romance, but both are more sophisticated than their appearances. Both have cozy fantasy settings.

Like Fushigi Yuugi two young women found themselves transported into a different world tearing apart by wars where they are the saviors who will bring peace.

Do you want peace or war? The question maybe is obvious to most, but it is hard to act on one's beliefs. What is more powerful, words or swords? What should one do? Or should one have faith in a giant?
