In both anime there are children who accidentally find themselves stuck in an alternate world and must look for a way to go back to their own.
Both shows are deconstructions of the Isekai trope with very strong anti-war message. Strange Dawn is targeted at a female audience and softens the gritty story by using Teletubby character designs, whereas Now and Then, Here and There is explicit up to edge lord levels. The stories themselves are quite similar though. The MC(s) travel trough a war torn other world and witness plenty of violence, futile death and pain, political madness and acts of resistance.
