Basara and Vash are quite similar as they both hate to fight and their appearance with glasses look similar. Basara using his music and Vash use his humour or "stupidity" with their evading skills when they battle and their purpose is same I guess. The main girls in both animes are also making troubles for the main character but they are helpful too. Even if the settings and the plot are diffrence I think you will like them both but you have to like the music in Macross 7.

Both have men who play guitar to solve intergalactic conflicts.

Suprised the other Macross series were recommended and not this one. Thematically this is probably one of the closest anime I've seen to GL. Both revolve around the power of spirit and have a lot of motivating moments. It's also on the goofier, over the top side of the mecha genre.

Both are Kawamori-helmed mecha anime about an ancient evil that feeds on humans reappearing after not being seen for thousands of years, where the lead character is an irreverent and strange wild guy with a rocky friendship with his team mates, and the series are light on plot with a character-focused slow burn pacing outside of the fight scenes. Also, their soundtracks are great.

Both of these follow a similar type of music. The main female is a bit clueless and adds to the plot just like Alice. Although the setting might be different and the reason behind their clash is different, songs are weapons and a way to bridge things together.

Both Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Macross 7 have odd reputations, since they're both the goofier installments in their said franchises. If you're someone who was able to tolerate and enjoy one of these shows, then check out the other if you're into that series as well, who knows maybe you'll end up liking the show a lot! When it comes to these two, "watch it for yourself" is your best option.
