Neon Genesis Evangelion is a story about absolutely nothing. So many people want to act elitist and get indoctrinated into the "premier anime" society by acting like this anime makes any sense.
Conceptually this anime is incredible. The story is engaging and the world building is next level. Sadly, we don't live in a perfect world where wonderful stories and character design magically appear from nowhere.
The characters are essentially depressed teenagers that are riding on massive robots with the entire world at their mercy. The story attempts to create a deep psychological connection with the viewer and dramatically fails by making unrealistic and unrelatable

People are disillusioned by the idea that anime must reach some happy conclusion. School Days goes against that idea and inflicts the main character into a state of trauma and disaster. No rose-colored world is without its nasty thorns.
Viewers of School Days are split into 2 groups. One group sees the cruel rules of reality being played in a fictional world as the protagonist's world splits into 2. Another is disappointed by the lack of disillusionment and wishes to see a reality that has far exited both this fabricated reality and our own. This show was a roller coaster to watch, the story was cringe worthy, but the developments through the show made it work out ok. That being said, the characters, although complex at face value are extremely plain if you take a deeper analysis of the show, eg. Rikka is chuunibyou who thinks her dad is still alive, her family does not like this. The characters do the same thing repetively for 9 episodes with barely any actual development, then suddenly shift. The monochromatic/low saturation color theme was a great look that added to the story, but they dropped that as well, not letting the viewer

As a viewer of quite a few rom-com anime, this story was very bland and the characters were not very fleshed out. They all had a vague backstory and their reasons for loving mc were very vague as well. This story lacks body and character development. The plot is not very clear and the story doesn't really go anywhere during the course of the anime. I love the art style of this animation. The character tropes/tropes in general used in this anime made it hard to watch as it followed the same format as most other rom-com anime and didn't give a unique take on
