Nearly universally, the dividing line is simple: either overpowered power fantasies are your thing, or they are not. If in the first category, this is not terribly unique or profound, and it’s not trying to be. But do you really care? It’s quite clear that shows like these are a guilty pleasure for a rather large audience.
I read a comment about the show that I felt was pretty on point: in the majority of action shounen type shows, the MC is, nearly without fault, always going to win in the end anyway, so why not just skip all that *boring* buildup, and just have the
...
cathartic ass-whooping take center stage?
If you are tired of power fantasies, or they were never really your thing in the first place, then the chance of this one changing your mind is pretty much nil. Though, I'd also be surprised if you went into this show expecting something different.

What got me interested in the show was this idea behind humanity reverting back to the stone age and having to rediscover and re-create all modern inventions and utilities. When this is the main focus, that is really where the show is at its strongest. It is then, rather unfortunate, that it doesn't really go too in-depth with it and so I don't necessarily feel like I really learned anything once done watching. I think the show should have capitalized a lot more on this aspect and made this the central theme of every episode. Show some naturally occurring conflict that would happen when it
...
is just us vs nature, and then show the methods that we have learned to overcome those difficulties. For instance, perhaps have a person become envenomed and die, and then show the methods we use for creating antidotes and voila -- one challenge overcome + if done in a way that is entertaining and informative, we could even learn something from it once we are done watching! This could continue as they built a bigger and bigger settlement and solving more and more of the problems that would arise. Perhaps focusing on how we discovered certain medicines or other useful resources to treat illnesses. The show has some light inkling of this, but too little and too much of the silly drama/comedy/and cringy dialogue. Basically have the science really take the forefront and relying on the problem solving being interesting enough to entertain the audience without the need for villains with evil, world-dominating plots...
Well, the show doesn't really do this, putting science at the forefront I mean... First off, it starts off with one of the most ridiculous post-apo setups I have ever seen, and it is just so... lazy... I really like stories that, even though they are dealing with a completely implausible idea, still do their best of grounding their stories in reality. It adds a sense of care, esp. if it is supposed to be taken seriously. If you have played the game 'The Last of Us', that would be a great example of this: Sure, it is at the end of the day a glorified zombie-apocalypse, but they decided to ground it enough by saying, hey, there is this mind-controlling fungus that actually exists and can control ants and bugs, what if it jumped to humans.. hmm? It shows some care that I think this show is sorely lacking.
The second big thing for me is the drama/conflicts. Like I said, just the everyday problem that humans would naturally encounter in a pre-technological world and the ways of overcoming this could be interesting enough. Instead, we are served this emo, self-centered maniacal revolutionist who wants to take over the world and bring about a new era of something... not exactly clear what he is trying to accomplish but apparently, youths are good, as longs as you are pro-him, and grown-ups are bad and must be killed. They crack a bit of a "joke" that it would be bad if the first person they wake is a murderer and sure enough, they got that and something even worse.. a hippie!
And the third big thing is the characters. ALL OF THEM ARE TERRIBLE. The loudmouth idiot that does nothing but scream, the pretentious doctor with lots of monologues and pro-humanity quotes (reminded me of a bad version of Sora from no game), the contender for the least interesting villain ever, and the girl just there to act cute and do absolutely nothing, with a super annoying voice to boot.
--
So apparently 3700 years have passed and how did Dr. Stupid Hair know this? He, with perfect pitch, counted the seconds perfectly! It's things like this that makes everything feel so... I don't really have a word for it but so counterproductive if we are meant to take the science side of it in any way seriously with throw-ins like that. And yet again, here was an opportunity to add some actual science to it. Perhaps explain different methods of dating, such as carbon dating, counting tree rings or perhaps some astronomical fact such as how certain astronomical objects would appear in the sky assuming some thousands of years have passed.

It's hard to put into words what exactly makes this show so good. Explaining, and showing this to a friend who dead-panned me with a stare: "This is the most boring shit ever" and honestly - I can see it, it's just hard to explain why it's great.
-
The show seems to be set somewhere in the future, humans seem extinct? and replaced by strange people from the moon and our featured cast of shining crystals. The characters are made from things like jade, diamond, ruby etc. and have the visual flair to go along with their given crystal. The show is mostly 3d animated, but
...
for once, this is not at all a negative. It adds a unique look to the show that sets it aside from most other animes. It's not necessarily the best looking show I've seen: the landscape and anything that doesn't feature our jolly cast can lack some detail - still, the character style makes up for this and the visuals are in that area quite impressive.
A cool idea was to make the characters genderless, at least that is the impression I got. Aside from rare occasions, they don't seem to specifically refer to any character as specifically male or female. This works rather well with our main character: I really never specifically identified that character as specifically male-ish or female-ish so if the idea was to make the character seem genderless, I thought they succeeded quite well. This is not really the case for the other characters though. Almost all of them are very feminine, especially the character Dia/Diamond. It's quite apparent that she was made to be a cutesy girl which I felt went against that genderless quality.
As the source material is still on-going this is not a 'finished' story. The 12 episodes leave a lot left unexplored, hopefully for a second season. For instance; a significant source of conflict is the ever unyielding attacks by the 'moon-people' who tries to steal the crystals (AKA the characters) and bring them to the moon. So far, they are really just en masse of white figures without any characterization at all so the 'villains' don't really have any depth (so far at least).
The setting, the style, and the characters really add something unique that makes the show quite different from others I have seen. I especially liked the main character, he/she was awesome, cute, comedic, laughable, eccentric, lovable - just filled with adjectives!
If you watch an episode or two and don't like it, you probably won't later on either. If for some reason the show is just strangely appealing though - you'll probably love it by the end!

Well, congratz for being the most uninspired anime iv seen to date!
I have not watched the TV-series beforehand but if this is supposed to be that climatic finale to conclude the show, then wow, what torture the main show must have been. It takes this movie about 9 years to get going and then another 7 years to finish and once over, it has accomplished what should've taken about 20 minutes. This movie is more or less the epitome of what I hate about this genre; 'romances' without an actual relationship.
The art is fine but I have gotten quite tired of this overly cute anime
...
style -- it just becomes hard to take it seriously when teens look and are written like they are 5 years old. I mean literally, take a look at one of the cover photos of our main character (look at the 'Pictures' tab at MAL for the movie); does she look 5, maybe 6, or 16 as she canonaly is?

Quite a nice little manga. About a so-called "Private Actress" that take on real-life acting roles such as fake girlfriends or pretend daughter. There are some overlapping storytelling between chapters but for the most part, each and every chapter deals with a separate case. The first for instance deals with a man with a short time left to live and also who had a daughter who was killed years earlier although he hasn't been able to accept this. Someone close to him hires our main character to play the "found alive" daughter in hopes of giving him some closing happiness.
As each chapter is quite different
...
there is a lot of creativity which I think shows really well early on which for me was the most enjoyable chapters. I also like that there is hardly any focus on explicit sexual roles which I thought the story may deal with at first; a young female private actress: seems like that may be a part of it.
Even though I enjoyed most chapters there were a few here and there, especially later on in the story which felt a bit over the top. A few hints or introduces supernatural elements which felt like an odd inclusion as the setting is not really supernatural.
Quite enjoyable and I thought it stood out quite well from other mangas I've read.

In this show, androids are part of everyday life for many people, and are by most, treated like any other person. They look the same, act the same and even feel the same emotions. They even seem to have a digestive tract, taste buds, and even a beating heart. Literally, they even have to work-out to keep muscle mass.
Making one of the main characters be an "android" is arguably where this show tries to make itself stand apart from the rest of these types of romance shows as this genre type is quite common and excluding the android part, the characters don't really have too
...
much personality to them to set them apart from other shows.
I guess one thing that was intriguing about this show is that they skip the whole "prejudice towards androids" thing, as that arguably happens in most shows/movies when androids are introduced in society (like Time of Eve, for instance), here they are treated more or less like any other person. This fact, however, comes with the biggest gripe I have with this show. The androids in this show are more or less EXACTLY like humans, with the main difference being that they have a limited lifespan of about 9 years. Because of the fact that they are so like humans, the story really wouldn't be ANY different if you replaced the "androids" with just normal humans. If you still want the limited lifespan to be a factor, make them terminally ill or perhaps in the future genetic clones that may only be able to live for a few years before their bodies fail. That way, I wouldn't have a problem with the inconsistency of being able to recreate perfect human androids, but unable to make them last more than 9 years. Even worse though, for dramatic purposes, when these androids are close to death -- unless they are specially taken care of before failure -- they turn into berzerking murder-bots.. seriously? There was no better way to introduce drama than that?
In the end, my point is that the element that could make this a unique romance show is rather inconsequential and the android part hardly affects the storytelling at all, and when it does it just feels contrived. A show like 'Time of Eve' or a movie like 'Her' wouldn't at all be the same if the Android elements are removed because they are so integral to the storytelling.
The show is not great, but at least serviceable enough to give it a watch. There are, however, so many better stories out there worth your time.

If the show would have been better if the epilogue (or any episode/movie for that matter) didn't exist than you have clearly done something wrong.
The 7 movies don't necessarily explain EVERYTHING, but they explain enough to the point where I felt very happy and satisfied with the ending and story that I got.
This one just decides to step its foot where it doesn't belong and stir up sh*t to explain things. Unfortunately, the explanation that I got (to questions that I didn't have to begin with) made the story WORSE... I think the same goes for one part in the main 7 movies as well,
...
and you probably have watched them if you are reading a review of the epilogue so some spoilers:
- spoiler for the main series!: I think I would have actually preferred if SHIKI (male part) had actually killed the people in the beginning like we are lead to believe in the second episode - and it was an inner struggle between SHIKI (male) and Shiki (female) about the right and wrong of murder. Lio Shirazumi would realize/witness SHIKI/Shiki kill people and because of that be inspired to become a murderer himself to I guess, get close to Shiki (This was actually how I believed the story unfolded, It wasn't until a friend said that SHIKI never killed anyone that I realized this). I thought Mikiya Kokutō was referring to the personality of Shiki (female) when he said that she had never killed anyone, but knowing full well that when SHIKI took over, "he (she?)" actually had killed someone.
Anyway, to conclude - The story is better if you don't what this epilogue and thus it's a complete failure in my opinion. The explanation makes the story worse, not better or more satisfying.

In terms, if writing and storytelling, its highlights are pretty darn amazing. It's also an anime that keeps changing and doesn't really stick to the exact same story all the way through. The characters have quite a lot of development with several arcs, rather than just focusing on one arch throughout. What I thought the focus of the show would be after having watched a few episodes turned out not at all to be what continued, so a happy surprise that it wasn't too predictable.
I'll give it 7 as the last 1/3 was a bit too depressing for me and with an unsatisfying wrap-up (imo)
...
- but still a very good show.
But now all that is over and I hope that one day the manga gets an ending so that I can read that and maybe feel more satisfied.
Anyway, I still highly recommend the show as it's pretty darn well written and rather unique (at least from the once I've watched, it's more grown-up rather than being a love-dove highschool romance).
