I have seen both seasons of Kaiji and saw this, and think that I enjoy Tonegawa a lot more than Kaiji because the second season of Kaiji was kinda slow and disappointing... but also I really like Tonegawa and I find it hilarious.
Story - 9
I like where the anime goes so far, it focuses on not just Tonegawa but also the people living underground. I think there are some valuable lessons to be learned in this anime based on mistakes the employees make and also this anime seems to portray life in Japan a bit more realistically. While some things probably wouldn't happen in Japan,
...
they definitely have black companies and you can learn a lot about Japanese gambling here in general including keiba ( horse riding ). Since it's aimed towards a Japanese audience, maybe this might be difficult for some people to understand hence the low ratings. I was a bit surprised by them, but then it might be because the jokes are more culture-related.
Art - 9
This art style reminds me of the 80s but clearly it was based off an old manga. It's pretty good and I think it fits the tone of the story well, which is what the art should be doing. The character designs also seem to serve their purpose well in the anime and you can even easily differentiate different characters which is nice and also important with anime plus the designs are appropriate for the story. The animation is overall pretty well made and the quality of it is great. What I noticed is that the animation for this anime is always consistent and I really like that because some animes don't have a consistent art style like Tonegawa.
Sound - 10
The most memorable part about Tonegawa would be the sound to me, because I really liked the opening/ending songs (which were catchy and suitable for the story). I was surprised that Gesu no Kiwami Otome would be singing for this anime, I like their songs but not really the band itself due to various scandals the lead singer was involved in (most Japanese people hate this band). Either way the song was pretty good and I like it. Anyways, the voice acting in this anime is probably the one I would never forget because the narrator speaks in memes and they also add in sound effects for that extra meme effect.
Character - 8
Not much I can say here. They're all good at least but I think some are kinda two-dimensional, either way I still had a lot of characters I liked in the story. Tonegawa is probably my favorite though...
Enjoyment/Overall - 9
I kinda just combined them since to me, they my enjoyment affects my overall the most. So overall, 9. It's a pretty good anime, hilarious, and I take notes on this from time to time to improve my Japanese. I think I would rewatch it again, and honestly sometimes I replayed the funny parts of this a few times because I can't get over this anime. I just think it's underrated but maybe there are people who disagree with me. Watch this anime if you want a comedy about business, but also enjoy Japanese culture and food anime.

Finally, now that I've seen enough of the anime I think this is a pretty good show. If you don't like BL or smut, don't bother with this anime as it's not for everyone.
Story - 8
So far the story focuses on these two actors in love with each other, at first it was pretty unrealistic but as you get further into the story they face real-life problems. And by real-life ones, I mean problems that idols will usually face in modern day Japan if they are involved in scandals. I find it interesting to see how it deals with certain situations, it seemed cliche
...
as heck at first but now I think I know why this got adapted. Anyway most BL doesn't focus on the reality, it's almost always fantasy and there's no consequences. I have to admit it was cringey at first and then I got used to the story.
Art - 7
The animation is actually decent for this anime, but sometimes the proportions of the characters bother me a bit and I feel that they could choose more unique character designs. I know they might have chosen this look because they wanted it to look like normal actors in Japan maybe. Either way it's still pretty good and I don't think it really impacted my enjoyment of the anime, and they did really well to express the mood of the story.
Sound - 7
The music is pretty good, I like the ED. Not a big fan of the OP but I think the music pretty much fits in with the story, just not that memorable for me. I actually kinda skipped the OP every time because I couldn't get past it without cringing, sorry to the fans of the OP...
Character - 8
I like both of the main characters. At first I didn't though because they seemed kinda shallow, but then as they got through more episodes I felt like Saijo actually had some more depth in his character.
Enjoyment/Overall - 8
Kinda combined this section since my overall would be based off enjoyment as well. I liked this series and it had more smut than most BL but I think that not everyone is fine with that, and that's ok. It really is aimed toward a specific audience so if you like BL then maybe you would like this, and I believe this anime is pretty consensual though I have heard the opposite about the manga.

So far, this second season seems to be terrible... was expecting more from how season 1 ended. Actually, I feel that Psycho-Pass ended well in just season one and I am satisfied with the ending of the first season but the second season just doesn't seem to make me excited.
Story - 6
It's a continuation of season 1 with new characters added in the cast, no more Makishima and Kougami... however I am pretty disappointed because I don't find this that interesting as the first one. It's like they're repeating things that already happened and going " how could this be! " with things that have
...
already happened before in season 1. The villain's character isn't very exciting for me and I find some of the new characters irritating in general.
Art - 8
Pretty much the same as before but I think the first season really was better in terms of character design and the characters are not that bland-looking.. I don't mind the new one. The animation seems to be the same and not lacking in quality at least, and it keeps up with season one for the most part. I wish the animation for the opening song was more interesting rather than clips being replayed, maybe I'm weird.
Sound - 8
Good. I think it still matches the story for the most part and they still have EGOIST, nice.
Character - 5
Like I mentioned before, I felt that the new characters were irritating and I liked the season 1 characters more. Just not a fan of characters whining 24/7 and questioning everything.
Enjoyment/Overall - 6
It seems terrible right now but I will finish this anime and decide for myself if this is worth it. I may rewatch the first season, I believe the story was perfect and didn't need a second season.

I am rewatching this for the second time, and I have to say this anime is simply AMAZING. I originally watched this as a kid, but fast-forward to now and I realize that I didn't understand this anime when I first watched it because this show is heavily based on psychology and sociology.
Story - 10
The dystopian sci-fi story takes place in the future, where the state of society is constructed through the Sibyl System and this specific system places judgements on humans based on their mental state, or as I would like to call it... their " crime co-efficient ". This is what is what
...
makes their society perfect, however this anime will make you question whether this society is really perfect. I believe understanding this story makes a lot of sense if you understand psychology and sociology again, because this anime focuses on the mental state of individuals and the society as a whole, plus makes references to famous theorists such as Max Weber but also they do make references to other types of literature that I'm not familiar with.
Art - 10
The art is well thought out to truly express the nature of the story in this anime. This is a perfect example of how to make an anime correctly in my opinion. The art style is nice, it's not super detailed and gorgeous that it distracts you from the story but it has appeal yet looks mature. The one thing I believe helped to express the story was their use of color, especially when they created the character designs. Their uniforms are mainly darker colors, which really makes you feel that this anime is serious. Also one thing I noticed is the contrast between Makishima and Kougami, Makishima mainly wears white while Kougami wears black. Maybe this use of color could be used to show how the Sibyl System judges the two characters, seeing one as good and the other as bad. The setting is also well done, it really gives off the sci-fi vibe with the use of technology and definitely shows that it takes place in Japan.
Sound - 10
I have to say that I like the music they use for the OP and ED of the anime, it makes sense anyways. Singers like TK from Ling Tosite Sigure and EGOIST are perfect, as they create meaningful songs that are either sad or give off a dark feeling in general. It suits the genre and if you have seen the other animes that they have sang for ( TK sang for Tokyo Ghoul, and EGOIST was in Guilty Crown ) then it makes sense why they were chosen for this anime. I know I missed the ones in the second OP and ED, but still the same concept. The instrumental music during the anime is also quite useful when they want to build up suspense in the story by making the music louder, so I think this took a huge role in my enjoyment of the story as well.
Character - 10
Maybe some people will disagree with me but I think the characters were well done, and I have gotten to know a lot about their motivation plus their backstory as I was watching this show. Unlike certain animes where they have shallow characters, at least the ones in this anime have an actual backstory and the way they act seems quite realistic. Especially Akane, which I know some people didn't like because they found her personality so annoying but I think that if I were in her place then I would act the same way.
Enjoyment/Overall - 10
I like this anime more than I thought I did, every episode was pretty interesting and honestly I found it cool that they used psychology plus literature in here. Actually there might be other references I'm missing here, but I might rewatch this again for sure to see the story in a different perspective. It's definitely re-watch worthy, and I like the originality of the story. Even after years later I still think this anime is impressive and the animation also surpasses some of the anime produced today in terms of story and the quality of the animation. Actually I was surprised by the quality because some of the recent anime I've been watching aren't even near Psycho-Pass.
Would I recommend it? Yeah I would. Even if you don't know psychology or sociology, you could still watch this and then maybe if you want to know more about the story then you can learn that stuff and rewatch it later to understand why the characters act the way they did and to understand the story plus the Sibyl System as well.

What you're about to read will be really deep, that's what you need to know.
I've never really understood why people even liked yaoi or why there were so many people fangirling over it. One day, I was really curious about what yaoi anime was like, so I looked up for some and found Junjou Romantica.
I was a young teenager during this time, going through puberty and all. I have had a history of being emotionally abused often, so when I saw this anime I thought it was cute and couldn't see the abuse at all because I thought this was normal, and the
...
characters really reminded me of how my emotionally abusive mom who was super overprotective like the characters in the anime. I didn't understand what healthy relationships or friendships were like back then, so yaoi became my coping mechanism for that. I went to a toxic school, and also got sexually molested once which basically traumatized me but yaoi made me feel safe and not have to deal with the emotions that come with trauma most of the time. It was my escape.
I know not everyone was like me. This anime basically made me feel comfortable and made me feel nostalgic for some reason. I really liked this one, but opened my eyes...
I realized it wasn't a great anime. Plenty of kids go around watching stuff like this, and you've probably met some annoying fangirls in your life. Luckily it didn't make me fetishize gay men, but recognize that hey, gay relationships are pretty normal like straight ones.
Either this anime will make you fetishize gay men or not, there's no in-between. The story isn't that great, it's pretty cliche but I have to say that the strongest point of this anime could be the characters since I did feel emotional while watching this and for whatever reason am able to empathize with them. But they were not written well, at least not developed enough for me to find them memorable. The character designs are OK.
As for the sound, pretty average but it's addicting. The opening song ( first one ) was my favorite, the rest... not really. The OST is also good, at least it suits the mood of the anime but the opening and ending songs are actually quite awkward to listen to because of the lyrics. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the anime at the time I saw it. I give the art an 8, at least the animators drew the scenes better than the mangaka because honestly I couldn't even get through reading the first few chapters of the manga, the anatomy was just so terrible. At least her art has improved over the years, but I don't like how they have seme and uke stuff and how they give them different characteristics. Normal gay couples don't look like that, nor do they always have huge age gaps.
Also can't deny that this would be a terrible influence on younger people nowadays, doesn't matter what gender you are. If you don't understand what abuse is, you will think that someone who is mean to you is in love with you. That's not how real relationships work. And as we know, the first couple basically involved sexual harassment. Most yaoi mangakas play it off as if it's no big deal and turn it into a romantic love story, where the guy eventually falls in love with the other guy. If this event happened in real life, the person would be traumatized. It kind of gives away the message that people who get sexually harassed actually enjoy it, this is NOT true at all.
It is easy to get attached to the characters, I think a lot of young teenagers like this anime because it's super girly but has a childish side to it which they can connect to. Some people use it to cope with trauma ( that's me ), while others are going through puberty and maybe some are just here to fetishize gay men. There's nothing wrong with shipping two men, but if you are shipping someone non-fictional in real life with someone else... you have a problem here.
The author may have been sexually harassed and is writing this to cope with trauma. This is a possibility, because sexual harassment against women is quite common in Japan to the point where they have trains for only women. I do recall watching the spin-off of this series, The World's Greatest First Love. In one of the episodes, Kisa mentions that he got sexually harassed sometimes because he got mistaken for a girl.
Back then, I might have given this anime an 8. I'd give it a 6/10 now after knowing why I liked this. It was better than most yaoi animes on average back when I watched this, but nowadays they're releasing better BL anime.
If you want good BL, watch Classmates. I would highly recommend it. And maybe Tiger & Bunny for real queer representation, although Tiger & Bunny isn't really yaoi, the two main characters are meant to be interpreted as a gay couple or bromance, you choose. I wouldn't blame anyone who watched Junjou and thinks it's great, if you are reading this and may consider watching it then please educate yourself on abusive and healthy relationships and STDs, and then watch the anime. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Mod Edit: This review was original posted for Seishun Kinema and has subsequently been merged into Urusai kurai no Kokuhaku Kudasai.
Sometimes in life, we struggle with insecurity in ourselves. Society expects us to look a certain way when you're born male or female.
This manga shows the struggle of a popular schoolboy named Todo who is insecure about his inverted nipples and his dick size. One day he happens to meet this guy named Yamamoto and he tries to help him with his problem... well I guess you know where this is going already.
The story was a bit predictable at times, and you can see that
...
in what I just wrote. It's not really outstanding but it's not really bad either, more like your average yaoi ( maybe slightly above average ). It's a bit rape-y and literally a straight guy turned gay... or is he bi? We'll never know really.
Out of the chapters I've read so far, there hasn't been a lot of character development in this story except for maybe Todo who began to become more accepting of Yamamoto and also brave enough to stand up for him. Yamamoto isn't really a typical yaoi character since he's someone that everyone thinks is a creep ( and well, sort of is ). I liked Yamamoto a bit though for being worried about Todo after what he's done and apologizing but he is, in fact, a bit manipulative.
The art is well drawn like usual though, nothing to really say here. I just found it funny that there was a clownfish, I thought Todo had some kind of clownfish problem. Then I realized it was censorship.
I kinda enjoyed this manga but overall it's not really that memorable and definitely not something I would reread again. I wouldn't recommend it but if you're a fujoshi then you might like it if you like these types of fantasies. If you're a gay man randomly looking at yaoi to read, you will not relate to this.

My friend introduced me to Vampire Hunter D. Apparently this is some kind of classic, so I decided to check it out. He is a huge fan of this but I didn't even know that this movie existed in the first place.
The art for this movie is pretty great especially for a 1985 film. Someone into today's anime may not enjoy this one though, but I'm used to the art style as I watched the old animes from the 80's before, like Ranma 1/2. The animation is very fluid, colors are nice to look at. Probably not the best art if you compared it
...
to today's standards for anime. It also contains some nudity. ( Cover your eyes, children! )
I think what drew me in the most would be the story. It was very interesting to watch, and I could feel the horror and suspense as I watched it. Plot may be difficult to understand for some viewers or confusing, but I enjoyed how this movie focused a lot on the plot. I was able to understand it pretty well. I've never seen an anime with a story like this before, so I have to admit that I was pretty entertained. It contains sexual themes that may make viewers feel uncomfortable ( it did for me, I guess that adds onto the horror aspect ). The only part that's cliche about it is D and Dorris, other than that I think it's pretty original. They definitely should do better with the story telling though because it was a bit all over the place.
This is probably the most flawed part in the movie. Many of the characters are one-dimensional. D has pretty unique abilities, and let's all admit that Dorris is your typical damsel in distress. All the characters are so damn flat and cliche. It just screams of FLAT. One thing that made me uncomfortable was how women were very sexualized in this movie. Everyone wants Dorris, eh? Most characters here are barely likable or relatable for the viewer.
The music in this story is barely memorable. It's basically mediocre but not something I would sing to or think about when I see this anime. Voice acting is interesting, much different from today's anime. I think it's pretty good and refreshing to see how different voice acting was back then.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie but I wouldn't rewatch it again. If you like horror with sexual themes and sci-fi, give it a try because you'll like it. I tell you this as a horror and sci-fi fan ( though I technically love every genre as long as the story is told well ). Hope my review actually helped people get an idea of the movie.

I love Tiger & Bunny and recently binge watched the entire thing. Then I found out they had two movies, and even a special. I finally finished the movies and got to the special, only to realize that most people on MAL rated it as a 6! And only 67 people have seen it.
I was shocked by the numbers, until I searched for the anime on the internet. I realized there were no English subtitles, but the raw version can be found on the internet according to people who commented on some site so it made sense why many people haven't seen it. I
...
decided to watch it raw ( easy for me because I speak Japanese ), hoping that it would be a good special because it's about some kind of orchestra.
I was very disappointed. This is not a good special and I would not recommend it. The story is terrible. Since the synposis doesn't really explain what it's about, I will summarize it for you. This special is basically about how the heroes decided to form a new band to perform a orchestra at Justice Hall. Also, the anime is really misleading in my opinion. For example, on the picture of this special it shows Kotetsu holding a trumpet and Barnaby holding a violin. I expected them to be playing it but it turns out they played completely different instruments in this special. The characters were good but a bit annoying in this special because they kept arguing over pointless things for a long time. There wasn't really any character development though. The animation is as good as the original anime and it's amazing, and the voice acting is great. The worst part would be that they didn't even put any music in this anime when it should have at least a song or two, especially because it's about music. At least it's watchable so I was able to get through all of that, but I was expecting more from this special.
I think many Tiger & Bunny fans may get disappointed from watching this special. It's outrageous that it's been a year and nobody has translated this though, but if it gets translated I'm sure most people would feel the same way as me. Anyway if you're expecting this to be the same quality as the original, you won't like it. In my opinion, this was a fail because they didn't have a lot of music... for a special about music and just laughable.

As a huge BL fan, I have to admit that many BL mangas either fetishize gay men or portray an abusive/unhealthy relationship between men and make things like pedophilia seem cute when in reality, it isn't. However we should keep in mind that even though many authors create these things, these are all just fiction and a fantasy for their readers in the end.
This is one of the most original stories I've read in a BL manga. I would give this a 10 for sure, because it explores the true reality of pedophilia and shows how it affects each of the characters in
...
this story. In this manga, we're given a realistic perspective of how society doesn't accept homosexuality or pedophilia. This is different from most mangas I've read because often, the discrimination that gay people face in society is literally non-existent and they often don't represent gay people and the issues they face more realistically. Most shotacon mangas are also not that different because they focus more on the fantasy part to please the viewer, and less on what really happens to the pedophile.
Not much to say about the art because it's really well done. I think it expresses the characters emotions well and helps set the mood of the story. The proportions are well drawn and the art is aesthetically pleasing.
Many of the characters in this manga are interesting. You'll probably hate some of them but change your mind when you learn about their past. They are very realistic and also aren't one-dimensional or cliche. Their personalities are unique and I like how they're flawed. There was also a lot of character development in this manga, and that's a great thing because we can see how some of these characters change for the best.
Overall I really enjoyed this manga and I would give it a 10. This manga was very memorable, and focused on a topic that's out of the norm and very different from other mangas. Every chapter was full of suspense, in fact it was really interesting and horrifying to read that I just reread the entire book a few times until the final chapter was finally released on the internet. Although so many things happened, I'm glad it had a good satisfying ending. I have never ever read any of Harada's works before and this is my very first time reading their manga, but I would definitely recommend this manga if you're looking for something interesting to read ( as long as the pedophilia doesn't affect you ).
