There have been tons of anime about robots and mechs fighting monsters. However, this special gem does not fall into that category. It's definitely more complex, story-wise, and can be depressing as well. Do these factors help the show stand out on its own or does it hurt the show? Let's find out.
Story: 7
The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where robots rust and humans are nearly extinct. Casshern Sins follows a robot named Casshern who's immortal, he travels the land in search of answers as to how the world came to be in ruins and who he really is. The plot's pretty straightforward
...
and episodic as well with some symbolism that makes the story unique and the fact that no one, not even the main characters are safe, makes the story interesting to watch. Though, the show can be slow paced at times which could throw some viewers off.
Art: 8
The animation is solid done by studio Madhouse who's always shown their A game from other great shows in the past. It's a unique design that blends in well with the overall tone and setting of the story.
Sound: 8
The OST is very good that goes well with the different scenes throughout the course of the story that fits with well with the show's tone. I watched this anime during its run on the new Toonami block on Adult Swim so I will only be talking about the dub for the show. It's a very good dub with the voice actors giving it their all and giving a good performance, though Funimation usually brings out good, quality dubs.
Character: 7
The characters for the most part are likeable. Casshern usually meets different people on his journey and a couple of them either join him right away or eventually. Everybody else is the supporting cast that meet Casshern who show, in their respective roles, how the world has evolved and how they have adjusted to their environment. At points they do drastic things due to how desperate and dangerous the situation has become.
Enjoyment: 7
This was a surprise as I literally had to expectations going into it. I always find shows that are set to be in a post-apocalyptic world interesting, with some symbolism thrown in there if it serves a purpose. They tend to show a what if scenario if the world was on its last stand and what you would do in that situation. Though the show can be depressing at times which isn't for everyone and I'm not sure if I would watch it more than once.
Overall: 8
Overall, despite my gripes with the show I still enjoyed it and am glad I checked it out. The show may not be spectacular, but it should be watched at least once before you decide if this is the kind of show that's for you. You can watch it on Funimation or Hulu for those of you who want to check it out. Well that's it for me. Thank you for reading my review. You guys take care.

I usually don't watch seasonal shows that often and for the most part wait until a show finishes airing so I can marathon it. However, I decided to give the Spring season a shot and being a sci-fi fan, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet looked very interesting to me. On with the review!
Story: 8
The story revolves around a young boy named Ledo who is partnered with an AI robot named Chamber, capable of communicating with the pilot and for combat in space. However, all of that changes when they suddenly arrive on Earth and Ledo has to learn how to adapt to his new environment.
...
What's really interesting is that Ledo spoke a different language before meeting the people who live on the Gargantia ship. He had to use Chamber to communicate with them so they could understand them, at least until he learned their language, which makes the whole situation more realistic.
Art:9
It's no surprise that the animation is top notch, especially from Production I.G. Everything looks so beautiful from space, the water, the lighting, the environment, which makes it seem more crisp to look at.
Sound: 8
The music is solid with the tracks matching up well with the scenes shown throughout the course of the show. While I don't speak Japanese, the sub for the show is good and I can tell the seiyuus sound like their giving a good performance.
Character: 7
For the most part, the characters serve their roles well and some of them get some good development. Ledo in particular as he starts off as a silent pilot who's only interested in fighting his enemy, but the more he learns about his new home, the more he adjusts to life on Earth and grows attached to the people he's gotten to know.
Enjoyment: 8
The series for the most part is pretty solid. It starts off great, but then has a couple of filler episodes in the middle tends to slow the pacing down. However, the ending surprised me as it resolves the problems leading up to it, leaving a satisfying ending. Although, it takes a few episodes in order to get to that point which makes you wonder if the wait will be worth it.
Overall: 8
Overall Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet has good character development from the main cast and a setting with circumstances that makes it seem more realistic. It has some flaws, but what's good is really good. If your interested in watching it you can check it out for free on Crunchyroll. Well that's it for now. Hope you enjoyed reading my review, you guys take care.

You would think that Deadman Wonderland is a show that I would love. It's dark, gritty, has a few twists and turns, and includes characters with superpowers. I heard people talk about it in the past and when I heard it was going to be airing on the newly revived Toonami block on Adult Swim I was interested. On with the review!
Story: 7
The story revolves around a kid who is accused of a crime he didn't commit and is forced to survive in a theme park called Deadman Wonderland. It starts off simple enough, something that can be easy to get into if you like
...
the type of shows in the action, horror genre. This show is very dark as well with lots of violence and gore to fit the overall tone of the show, depending on who you are and what kind of shows you can watch you will either love it or hate it.
Art: 8
The animation is solid with lots of gritty detail and a dark atmosphere that fits well with the show and its setting. It also looks amazing during the action scenes, which is a big plus.
Sound: 8
The music is very good with a lot of tracks that fit particular scenes over the course of the show, and I do have to give props for the opening as it's a good way to get you into the show, and if I ever decided to make a list of favorite anime openings, this would be one of them. As I stated before I saw the show on Toonami and am only able to critique its English dub. It's a solid dub with all of the actors giving a good performance to the characters.
Character: 7
With any action survival show the characters are going to be the main focus, hopefully, and this is no exception. What's interesting though is that most of the characters that do have superpowers are able to draw out their blood from their body and form a weapon to fight, which is a new and creative way to give powers to a character. The main characters and some of the supporting cast serve their roles appropriately, but there were only a handful they could focus on and even give a back-story to within this 12 episode series while the rest don't get much screen time and are easily forgotten. The main protagonist annoys me because he never stops whining about his problems. I can understand him being upset because of the situation he's been put in, but he almost never gets over it.
Enjoyment: 6
I really wanted to like this series, but with all of its problems I can't, which is a shame because it has a lot of good points in it. While I am glad I saw it, I'm not sure if I would see it again. the lack of a good conclusion, a whiny main protagonist, and the amount of gore and violence really keeps me away from loving it. While the violence serves the series well considering the subject matter, it's not something that's going to please everyone.
Overall: 6
This show isn't bad by any stretch of the word, but it could've been better. If the show had an additional 12 episodes, then it probably would be better from a storytelling standpoint and an enjoyment standpoint. However it is worth seeing at least once. Since it stopped airing on Toonami after its running time ended, you can watch it on Funimation, or Hulu. Thank you all for reading this review and take care.

I think a good example of how to explain what Soul Eater is would be if Tim Burton made an anime. It's filled with zombies, ghouls, and other characters living in a world that looks like Halloween Town, but enough of the comparisons, let's get on with the review.
Story: 7
The story starts off simple enough. In this world, there are meisters who are attempting to turn their partners, who can turn into weapons, into death scythes. However, the plot changes into a battle with an evil witch, spider, werewolf, and other creatures. It's not a really complex plot, but the show gives you enough information
...
that it allows you to just have fun, because that's what it is, it's fun, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Art: 7
The animation is very creative with a lot of crazy designs. Studio Bones did a great job with keeping the animation consistent with the overall tone of the series.
Sound: 7
The music consists of hip hop, rap, and rock music to go with the style of the series and it does the job well, though there weren't any tracks that particularly stand out with the exception with the first opening song, which is one of the best anime openings ever, in my opinion. I watched the show dubbed when I first saw it and it was pretty good as the voice actors matched the characters well.
Character: 8
The characters are very unique with a few that have personalities that I haven't seen before. The main cast consist of meisters and weapons, where their partners are the polar opposite of each other, but they work extremely well together. The supporting cast also have their own distinct personalities that makes them enjoyable to watch, including the villains.
Enjoyment: 8
I thoroughly enjoy this show and it's one of my favorite shonen shows. The ending is a little bit of a letdown. It's definitely not the worst ending, but i feel like they could of done a better job, especially since the rest of the show is great.
Overall: 8
Soul Eater is such a crazy and fun show to watch that you shouldn't afford to miss out. This may not please everyone, but if you love action shows with supernatural elements to it with some comedy here and there, then you should like it fine. You can watch online such as Funimation, Hulu, etc. to see if it's your cup of tea. Or you can buy it somewhere, it's up to you. Hope you enjoyed my review and take care.

Berserk is one of those classic anime series that I was told was very good. It took me a while, but I finally decided to check it out and see for myself. From the first couple of episodes, I was intrigued by the setup of the story being set in medieval times.
Story: 9
The story of Berserk is one of the best that I have seen in anime in a long time. It revolves around a lone soldier named Guts who joins up with a group of warriors called the Band of the Hawks in order to reclaim their kingdom. That's the short version as
...
their is a lot more to it than that with conflicts not only with enemies, but also between the different characters.
Art: 5
The animation is nothing special, in fact it's pretty forgettable. While it is from the 90's, there are other anime titles that came out around the same time that looks much more impressive.
Sound: 7
The music is pretty good. It fits with the overall tone of the series and does a good job at it. I only watched the show in English and it wasn't that bad, though it's not something that's going to win you over if your a sub watcher.
Character: 8
The characters are very well written, particularly the main cast. Both Guts and Griffith compliment each other well with their interactions and the development between the characters grows over the course of the series.
Enjoyment: 7
This show is a great example of writing not only an epic tale, but also a tragedy. It could've been nearly perfect if it wasn't for one major flaw, the ending. In my opinion, this is one of the worst endings ever. I don't want to spoil anything to people who haven't seen the show, but if you ever do decide to watch it, be warned because it takes you for a loop. Despite that though, it definitely was worth watching.
Overall: 8
It's not everyday an anime comes along that's set in medieval times that has a mature story to it. Despite the ending, this is something that should not be missed, so if you happen to find it at your local store or at an online retailer, pick it up, you won't be disappointed. Hope you enjoyed my review and take care.

Blue Exorcist (Ao No Exorcist) is one of those shows that I've heard a lot of people talk about. It's not a show that was over-hyped, but it definitely wasn't a show that was slipped under the radar. For someone who has an interest in the supernatural I wanted to check it out, though since I am a religious person I decided to approach this anime cautiously. Surprising enough, I enjoyed it. But enough of my rambling, let's get on with the review.
Story: 7
The story is nothing that hasn't been told before in some way or another. A boy born different than the rest of
...
society, who isn't told about his past until much later, who acts tough, but cares about his friends, and decides to stand up to defeat evil isn't anything new here. However, the pacing between the action sequences, the comedy, and other suspenseful and emotional moments makes it more enjoyable to watch.
Art: 9
The animation is simply amazing with A-1 Pictures giving it their all. From the designs of the characters and environments to the action scenes, the show looks beautiful. A-1 Pictures has shown in previous and later shows that they can animate action scenes well.
Sound: 9
The sound is also top notch with Hiroyuki Sawano as the composer whose done great work in the past and present. He does a great job at creating scores that match well with particular scenes throughout the series. Especially the action and suspenseful scenes, where you get pumped just by listening to the music. I watched the subbed version first, though I don't speak Japanese, I can tell the seiyus did a great job. While I haven't seen much of the dub, I was very impressed with it and I wouldn't mind seeing more of it.
Character: 7
The characters for the most part are likeable, though some of the supporting cast may be stereotypes. Rin is a likeable main protagonist and Mephisto is fun to watch as you never really know what he's planning. The interactions between the characters is crucial to maintaining good character development. They may not be deep characters, but some drive the plot forward and you understand their back-story, for some of them, and know why they are the way they are.
Enjoyment: 8
My enjoyment of the series is very high. It's not perfect, though nothing ever is, and for a shonen show, it's not that bad, especially since it ends. However, I did feel like the ending was weak, especially compared to the first half of the series. It wasn't the worst ending I've ever seen, but it wasn't the best either. Despite the ending being flawed, it wasn't enough to lower my enjoyment of the show.
Overall: 7
Overall, Blue Exorcist was a fun show to watch despite being flawed. If it lasted perhaps another season, had a different ending, or even had a few more episodes to cover everything, then it could've been better. However, for what we got, it was a fun ride. To people who like shows with supernatural elements and action, then you'll probably like this fine. If you want to check it out you can watch it either on Crunchyroll or Hulu. Thank you for reading this review and take care.
