I can't really recommend this one.
I picked it up because I thought an anime about a magical school would be right up my alley but unfortunately this one doesn't seem to be.
My first gripe is the premise itself. The students in this anime are split into two groups. One houses people who have a lot of magical power and talent (and thus do well on the entrance tests), the second one houses people who were less fortunate and have average or below average power level. Dropped after 5 episodes.
The biggest issue for me is that the main cast effortlessly wins fights, there's simply zero tension when the heroes fight because it's clear that no one is actually in danger - and even if they were it doesn't actually matter that much. The attacks are just flashing lights, no matter what is actually happening. One tanky dude screams "Anchor Howl" and it's just a flash of a green light that is supposed to draw the enemies towards him. So basically this is a show where kids with superpowers fight other kids with superpowers, it's kind of like X-men if X-men were like 15 and had tournaments where they fight each other with some "beat the bad guy" arcs thrown in between.
Most of these kids doesn't really have any kind of original or interesting superpowers and that would be okay... if it weren't for the main character. The main character has the most boring power of all, it's literally just super strength. They tried to offset that by making it so he has trouble using it at first but of course he overcomes ... |
