Anyone who enjoys fantasy-comedy like Bofuri should definitely give this one a try but it doesn't mean I recommended this one.
From the beginning, I'm sure many would speculate that the character Dunbalf is a reference to Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings series. His formidable magical abilities aren't too different from Maple in Bofuri, although not overly overpowering. Now, the cute Mira is undoubtedly reminiscent of Maple, who debuted two years earlier, although her antics aren't as wild as Maple's. Additionally, all the female characters are made quite kawaii and pleasing to the eye. The male characters are also polished to perfection as ikemen,
...
like Solomon, Tact, and Gareth(?), serving the female audience. There's also a cat character that adds a comedic touch with its amusing behavior, fittingly named after its creator, Studio A-CAT.
The gender bender element itself is something I hadn't encountered before, except for the teasers of Isekai Ojisan that I haven't watched yet. However, upon closer examination, Mira here is a game character accidentally created and doesn't lead to yuri themes. The potential for that arises from Fricka and Luminaria, who have feelings for Mira, but Fricka's attachment is more intense due to having more screen time. Besides the loli-shota fan service and moe characters, comedy is also a prominent feature, especially with Fricka-Emera and Gareth. Meanwhile, the CGI monsters might make the viewing experience somewhat uncomfortable, and the presence of chicken monsters might induce laughter and shock. So, it's clear that there's more CGI in this anime compared to Studio A-CAT's later work, Noumin Kanren.
Overall, Kendeshi's plot is fairly ordinary and somewhat slow, but it keeps the curiosity of viewers who stick around until the end piqued. The battles against CGI monsters aren't particularly intense, even though they are not brief. Moments of the sky breaking and turning red remind me of similar occurrences in the anime Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari. The symphonic/folk rock/metal genre soundtrack, reminiscent of Fairy Tail, adds an epic feel to these moments.
As such, light-hearted comedy and fan service truly take center stage in this anime, serving as a reminder that Kendeshi is a light and somewhat laid-back fantasy, not a completely serious action fantasy.

Unrequited love can be truly painful. Is there a way to mend this heartache? Can our fake connections heal our wounded hearts? That's the essence of the somewhat complicated romantic drama anime, Kuzu no Honkai.
The emptiness of the heart explored in this anime is highly relevant to the lives of many people who seek recognition, even just a little, from specific individuals for what they do. When expectations aren't met, we often feel futile and heartbroken, leading to stress and the pursuit of an escape, be it the release of sexual desires through physical relationships or masturbation. However, Hanabi (as the substitute girlfriend) and Noriko
...
(childhood friend; Mugi calls her Moka) don't actually engage in intercourse with Mugi.
Hanabi, Mugi, and Sanae (Hanabi calls her Ecchan) all desire to be acknowledged and accepted, seeking a refuge for the wounds and dissatisfaction that have accumulated from the past and the present. Meanwhile, Akane, who plays the role of an antagonist, has her own uniqueness. She's the unexpected fuel in the story. That's why Kuzu no Honkai holds a special and memorable place for some people.
The same-sex attraction between Ecchan and Hanabi is an unexpected twist as well. Hanabi initially rejects it, but due to her emotional emptiness, she's willing to grapple with a friend who shares those traumatic memories. Thus, Kuzu no Honkai comes with a warning for those who may not appreciate yuri/lesbian elements.
The character development is well-detailed, both in terms of their pasts and ongoing struggles, with Narumi serving as a symbol of the typical male anime character who won't give up on his dreams, no matter the circumstances.
In my opinion, the background atmosphere of this anime is reminiscent of Ao Haru Ride and Aoi Hana, and it features the distinct eye style seen in Koi to Uso, with indistinct pupil lines. The use of comic-style image fragments and kaleidoscopic clips in the ending song adds to the anime's unique character.
Despite being accompanied by music, atmosphere, and well-crafted dramatic dialogue, Kuzu no Honkai also injects humor at certain moments, which can alleviate drowsiness or boredom but may occasionally feel disruptive.
In conclusion, I greatly appreciated the atmosphere, music, and plot twists presented in this anime, even though the fan service scenes in bed still left me in agony...
Score: 7.5

Ceasing the pursuit of an ideal girl, then living a drama-free, spice-less, and ordinary life, there's nothing anime-esque about "Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha." It becomes one of those anime that almost traces the path of an ordinary, normal student, just like in the real world.
It's commonplace for light novels to be adapted into anime, and if I were to draw a comparison, Yumemiru Danshi reminds me of "Oregairu," with its MC being idolized as a relatable character by many fans. In Wataru's new daily life, he exhibits potential similar to Hachiman, being able to read situations and offer solutions – to the best of my recollection,
...
but Wataru doesn't come off as cool as Hachiman. Not being cool isn't necessarily a problem, but because the characters only engage in ordinary activities, devoid of substantial drama and comedy, it become felt dull. The OST music doesn't always set the right mood either.
Aside from feeling dull, some scenes showcase absurd and peculiar imagery, like odd camera angles, disproportionate head and body ratios.
Aika as the tsundere heroine doesn't appear much to clarify the romantic element in this anime. Supporting characters take turns filling that void. They've been featured in the opening song, including Ashida Kei, Sajou Kaede, Shinomiya Rin, Aizawa Rena, Ichinose Mina, Sasaki Fuuka, and Claudia, among others. A similar scenario can be found in "Oregairu," which has many characters with significant contributions. However, there's still one character who hasn't made an appearance here, possibly Sasaki Takaaki's sibling.
Looking at it, Wataru and Kaede's relationship is relatively normal and realistic as they often argue, similar to Makabe and Chinatsu from "Masamune-kun no Revenge." Wataru is also an MC who is familiar with many people and not socially awkward, making him seem even more normal. Meanwhile, Ichinose and Sasaki Takaaki's situation makes it a typical anime/manga trope. Furthermore, their attire, especially that of the student council members who should represent order, ends up being looks chaotic.
After watching this anime, I'm convinced that characters with big eyes fundamentally originate from cat face sketches, not humans, especially not native Japanese. Moments of silence and speaking without interruption are present in many anime, but it's especially noticeable in "Yumemiru Danshi."
Despite numerous shortcomings, I appreciate the use of teacher characters, the appearance of Mrs. Sajou, which might not have been highlighted in other anime, the grand school design reminiscent of Western schools, and the appearance of characters vacationing in the real world in the closing song, which piqued my interest in their locations. Appreciation should also be extended to the opening song composer, particularly the part with the palm-muted guitar playing that drove me crazy.
As for shipping, I'd go with Wataru-Fuuka because that's what truly makes this anime a romance anime. Hahaha...
