I will never get the expectations thrust upon this show from some of the other reviewers. Not only that, the information in their "reviews" seem to have a certain bias that has nothing to do with the show, the content, or it's overall quality. It's almost like if this show didn't exist, a better one made specifically for them would replace it and they're mad because of this. They are hate-reviewing and spouting unfounded allegations for no reason whatsoever.
That said, here's an honest review from someone who enjoyed the show but admits it's not perfect. This was a passion project and nothing more. Sometimes they
...
hit, sometimes they miss. The overall feel and story of Kizuna no Allele is above average compared to some of the higher rated shows of the past few years. Where it falls short is it had a LOT of characters that need a bit more development to get more engrossed into the story. They give you just enough connection to get the story moving and keep you engaged, but there are a lot of questions that could have been easy answers. I really don't want to give any spoilers for those who will give this show a chance, but let me tell you this, if you like idol shows this is actually a very good one compared to what has come out or been recycled over the past few years. But you will have to take yourself out of expectations that it will be perfect to enjoy it fully.
Characters get a 8/10. The designs are amazing, the quality of the 2D and 3D is great. It's OK to dislike a few characters, that means that they gave you a reason to. Most of the characters who got a good chunk of screen time had you wanting to know more or be interested in their development. If you are the type who dislikes 2D/3D mix in anime, this may not be for you. But the 3D is excellent and not just a Bang Dream copy. The 2D isn't the best ever, but it's above average and it in no way distracts from the show. Miracle ends up being a great center for the show. She becomes more likeable in the 2nd season and we get more background on the rest of the cast as it progresses.
Music gets a 10/10. Now, this is just me. I have very diverse music tastes. The overall variety of the music styles in this show is above most if not all idol shows lately. I don't think there was a single song I disliked. OP and ED are great. Group songs were great. Overall production of the music was top industry standards.
Plot gets a 7/10. If you take the story out of what we already know about "Vtubers" (Which they are *not* in this futuristic setting) and Kizuna AI as she exists in our world, it's actually a really creative and fun story. A lot more than most of the churned out multi seasons of other shows. Because I wanted more. This had a lot of potential but I'm not going to hate on them for going the path they did. Anime is expensive. My main gripes were the more than needed recycling of parts to move the story, the lack of reactions to the lives as they were happening, and the ending could have been structured a lot better. I don't think there will be a 3rd season, unfortunately.
My request to you is to give it a chance only if you want to. Don't watch it if you are going into it planning to dislike it. You may suddenly find yourself hating this show for reasons that shows you love are given a pass for. Unless you hate everything, then just don't watch it.
If you are a Kizuna AI fan, know this is a show that was produced with her vision, not completely ABOUT her. If you were looking for a Kizuna AI centered anime, maybe you should support her passion projects and give her a reason to make one.
9/10 overall. Haters gonna hate, but I want more attempts at original ideas and takes on concepts like this. I would 100% invest time in any new project Kizuna AI puts out next.
