As this review is meant to be as spoiler-free as possible, do note that I will be unable to dig deeper into some of the themes and aspects of this movie that I personally enjoyed. Please do not let my own opinion dissuade you if you thought more highly of this movie or is interested in watching it yourself.
Story – 6.5/10
Frankly speaking, the movie was pretty linear and straightforward in presenting itself and is mostly just a direct continuation of the original anime series, the story it brought to the table was frankly speaking very normal and was more so elevated by the quality of
...
the fights and the progression, thought process and dialogue of characters like Rengoku and Tanjiro who were able to elevate the quality and level of this movie. Though the story itself was very standard, the quality of its other key aspects have managed to pull up the score by a fair margin. As I have not read the original source material, I will be unable to provide insight as to whether or not the story has been faithfully adapted so if you have already read the manga, you’ll have to be your own judge as to how well the story was adapted.
Character - 7/10
I’ll go through the cons first, I personally dislike Zenitsu and Inosuke. Their antics are unbearable to me and once again this problem remains unsolved. Inosuke at the very least has made me feel that he has grown in some ways but Zenitsu and Nezuko’s development as characters leave much to be desired. Tanjiro’s growth was substantial enough for me but I think the most obvious stand-out would be the Flame Hashira, Rengoku. In the sheer span of a hundred and sixteen minutes (probably much less actual screen time), he has managed to outdo Zenitsu, Inosuke and Nezuko’s development over the course of countless hours. This was definitely the definitive highlight for this movie and I strongly stand by my opinion on the fact that this movie could’ve had an even greater peak if Rengoku had received more screen-time during the airing of the First season. Its quite a shame that I was only able to give the Character aspect a mere 7, due to the lack of development for 2 key characters (Nezuko and Zenitsu).
Animation – 10/10
If there was one sentence I could use to describe the phenomenal use of animation, it would be “Episode 19 on drugs”.
I’ve been an UFOtable fan since 2017 and that has not changed. Their ability to elevate the level of any source material they have been given is unmatched and this movie only goes to show their prowess in the animation department, especially when given a strong and healthy budget. The use of 3D camera movement figuratively makes you rock hard and there’s no better way to describe it. Animation will never be your problem when it comes to any UFO adapted anime and is the reason why I’m so hell-bent set on completing this series in anime form because the manga would most likely disappoint me in some key aspects when it comes to the shounen genre. Anything touched by UFOtable simply turns to gold. (Fate/Stay Night 2004 vs Fate/Stay Night UBW 2014 is a fair comparison to show how much a series can level up with the Midas Touch of the mighty UFOtable)
Sound - 8/10
I’m inexperienced when it comes to the genre of music so do note that this is what my untrained ears personally thought. The soundtracks used were mostly fairly well-done, Yuki Kajiura’s composition rarely fails to please me and I am once again sold by her music. The ending soundtrack sung by LiSA delivered as well, albeit less catchy as compared to the likes of Gurenge due to the more solemn tone used in this song. Sound effects for the battle scenes and everything in general felt solid, no complains here.
Enjoyment – 8/10
Sucks that I’m unable to go further in-depth to avoid spoiling anyone but I can say that I definitely did enjoy my time in the cinema and definitely did have a great time watching this movie, it’s definitely worth a watch if you enjoyed the first season.
Overall – 8/10
Definitely a much more pleasant experience that the first season. I gave the first season a 6.5/10 so I think this alone tells you that there has been a significant upgrade in the literary themes that it has presented and overall, is a solid watch to engross and indulge yourself with.

This series has so many major flaws that make this show so insufferably dull and uninteresting.
Story:
The story starts off as pretty normal, which is perfectly fine. What I do have a problem with is how slow and uninteresting the pacing of the entirety of the series is. This show literally moves at the pacing of a turtle due to the insane amount of boring and useless dialogue the series has to offer. The music aspect of the series hardly feels substantial at all as well, I honestly can't tell what kind of direction the show is going for with the way they handle the music
...
aspect, its just so poorly handled.
The romance is even worse , everyone in the series is just gay for like zero reasons at all. It pisses me off especially with how the series handled this aspect. The series literally comes at you with the idea that these characters are all gay all at once. Like, excuse me? Also, its pretty much wasted potential when the series can't even be bothered to show how conflicting it is to be homosexual in a country like Japan. where this kind of things is just culturally not accepted in real life.
Characters:
The characters are all one-note and absolutely bland. The entire casts just feels so uninteresting and their personalities don't even feel compelling. The worst part is the way they handled the designs, which are literally just Haikyuu rip-offs, which absolutely downgrades the series even more because they couldn't even be bothered to make original designs and literally copied the same hairstyles and faces from Haikyuu, at least create your own designs man.
Art+ Sound:
The sound direction is pretty generic, there's hardly anything for me to say about it, it's not terrible by any means but it just isn't note worthy enough to justify saying anything positive about it. As for the art, as I've stated, the character designs really suck. The animation is really standard stuff and background art is just normal stuff, nothing worth noting.
Enjoyment + Overall:
This series was just a slog to watch, it feels so poorly written and is completely uninteresting.

Interstella5555 is one of the best examples of the phrase, “Show, don’t tell in a world where 99% of shows will at least have a single line of dialogue, utilizing music and animation to tell the entirety of its story. Interstella5555 is the visual realization of "Discovery", an album by Daft Punk and even if you don’t know this artist, I think the show itself is still good as a stand-alone piece of work.
Things I enjoyed:
I think some of the best parts of Interstella5555 that even though it was made in the year 2003, it manages to replicate the iconic 1980s looks and it’s just
...
a real treat to look at. The story is linear and simple to follow, albeit you’re not multi-tasking while watching it and is basically a take on the harsh life of musicians but in a more absurd manner, following alien musicians who have been abducted to Earth. The setting of some of the areas in the place are original and backgrounds are clearly uniquely Interstella5555 and not re-used, an extremely big sigh of relief for a 2003 show trying to replicate that 1980s look. Fashion sense of the characters are also well done, realistic and not over the top. The animation is not top tier, but definitely is still more than enough for your average viewer. All in all, the show definitely has an interesting story for those who are interested in musicians with a little spice to it.
Some setbacks of the show:
Unfortunately, the character writing is the biggest setback of the show. As it is an arthouse kind of anime, the lack of dialogue really setbacks the character writing and although you can still get the hang of most parts of their personality, it really loses the charm of being able to view into little tidbits of the character’s identity. One of the most glaring examples of this is the fact that you’d hardly remember the characters names as they basically only show it once throughout the entirety of the show. I also believe that people with shorter attention span will come to find this boring as it is more of a puzzle to your eyes, ears, and brain instead of the kind of show that is easily accessible and watchable.
Conclusion:
I think a majority of the viewers who want to watch this fall into either of these categories. Someone who is into music and likes Daft Punk and would really like to see somewhat of an AMV from them or someone who wants to get into that 80s anime look but wants somewhat of a better TV quality than compared to shows from the 1980s and lastly, people who are really into arthouse animation, elitists, or up-and coming elitists.
Overall: I believe the show is a solid 7/10 and is most likely for you if you fall into one of the above categories of said conclusion. It’s not exactly a beginner’s show so I would not recommend it if you are someone who has just recently started watching anime.

I just had the opportunity to watch Tenki no Ko and it was an amazing watch, regardless of its flaws. As I myself am not a huge fan of Kimi no Nawa, I will NOT be referring to the show's predecessor and its worldwide success.
Story - 7
Although the story isn't exactly very original, it is still an extremely fun watch that manages to maintain a somewhat fantasy aspect while still being somewhat realistic. However, the story was still somewhat predictable to an extend and I would have loved to see an ending which was able to tie up more of the loose knots in the
...
show and how the citizens of Tokyo had to change up their lifestyles to fit with the state of the weather.
Art- 10
There seriously isn't much to say about the art, Makoto Shinkai continues to excel in this department in every single one of his films whether you like them or not. The art is simply superb and jaw dropping, Shinkai never fails to amaze me by pumping out such amazing quality in his film.
Sound - 8
Music was great, I'm no expert when it comes to music so this is all just based on my own personal enjoyment and how the music was used in the scenes. Voice acting was superb, I believe the voice actors did an amazing job in bringing the characters to life, the emotional scenes felt genuine and no scene felt fake whatsoever , I have no qualms about the quality of the voice acting.
Character - 6
This is most likely the biggest problem I have with the film, although I think the side characters do have their fair share of time (which honestly still isn't enough but there is only so much you can do in a 2 hour film) that makes them more likeable, I felt like there could have been more expansion on Hina and Hodaka's relationship. Although we do get to understand Hodaka more as the film goes on, I felt like Hina should have had more time so that we could better understand her as a character. Although she is indeed cute, she felt more like a plot device which was merely there to drive the story further, rather than being a character who helps the story to progress forward naturally.
Enjoyment - 8
I enjoyed this film thoroughly, although it isn't the next contender for best film or anything similar to that, I left the cinema feeling quite satisfied with the way the film was handled
Overall verdict - 7.8/10
Even though I did have some problems with the show, it is nontheless worth a watch if it is coming to a cinema near you, you would most likely enjoy it if you did enjoy Makoto Shinkai's past works and I do not think your enjoyment would be affected unless you are looking for the next Kimi no Nawa. Do give this film a shot and let yourself decide if you like the movie or not.
