Hyouka was one of the first anime I saw. After rewatching it today, It hit me differently, and I felt inspired to give it a review.
Oreki Houtarou lives a gray color life (a life that excludes studying, sports, and romance) with a motto of "If I don't have to do it, I won't."After his sister requests him to join the classics club to keep it from dying, he can't refuse, so he proceeds to join, thinking that it would be a good opportunity to get a room to himself. Throughout the show, in almost all

of the mysteries, Houtarou is the detective and is very intelligent to the point where he can solve any mystery that pops up. His development throughout the story is genius.
Chitanda is the opposite of Houtarou. With big purple eyes, Chitanda is always very happy and curious about anything that pops up in the classics club. She always goes, "I'm curious." She is the comedy of the show. In the beginning of episode 1, Houtarou meets her in the clubroom. Her role in solving mysteries is opening the mystery and convincing Houtarou to help solve the mystery. Houtarou slowly falls in love with Chitanda.
Next, Satoshi Fukube is Houtarou's best friend. He is very "happy go lucky". Satoshi also cares a lot about his friends. Having a great memory and a knowledge of a bunch of random sometimes useless information, Satoshi is a perfect fit with Houtarou. He is the "database" of the squad.
Last but not least, we have Mayaka Ibara. Mayaka is usually a very pleasant person, but, however, She is also stubborn and rude to Houtarou and Satoshi at times. Mayaka also tries to be very responsible.
Story-10-The story is very simple, yet gripping. Houtarou, Chitanda, Satoshi, and Mayaka solve mysteries that happen. Every one of the stories had me hooked. Even though most of the stories are mainly dialogue, with a bunch of interesting characters, I did not think any of the episodes were boring.
Art-10- Kyoto Studios is known for its beautiful animations. For Hyouka, I think Kyoto Studios took animating to a whole different level. The animations are ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I remember after watching one scene on episode one I just went wow. The animations are top-notch.
Sound-9- the soundtracks fit in perfectly. The OPs are great. I can sit through and sing along with them. I have no problems with the endings. The flow of the music is brazy and can keep me hooked.
Characters-10- The character development is absolutely insane. In each arc, more and more information is revealed about the characters. The characters imo are what makes the anime so gripping and beautiful. Hyouka has one of the best character development I have ever seen.
Overall- 10- I could rant for hours telling of how good Hyouka is. It's amazing how such simple stories can be made into such compelling stories.
Hyouka does an insane job making everyday mysteries enjoyable to watch. It has made me change my views on school and life.
I would definenity recommend Hyouka to everyone (unless you hate slice of life.)
