The sudden circumstances of kids being thrown into a large scale battle as a mech, with the main character having no clue about it, hidden walls shooting up into the air with battle armaments all around the city, with a combat center with digital displays and HUDS, even the music- are all reminiscent of Evangelion.

Both center around one guy with many girl students and an elite academy dedicated to fighting. While IS is set in a mecha sci-fi setting, Sky Wizard Academy focuses on magic. They have a lot of comedy based off silly or cute slice of life scenes that let the individual girls shine.

Shokugeki no Souma

Both anime are set in a school dorm in high school that are co-ed with some VERY eccentric students that are each gifted in some way. In Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo's place it was art, in Shokugeki no Souma's case it is cooking. The major basis of the comedy though is still that they live in a co-ed dorm, with eccentric personalities, creating over-the-top slapstick humor with the occasional ecchi thrown in. Main difference in genre is the romantic undertones in Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo.

Like, Shokugeki no Souma, Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou is in another co-ed living environment with hilarious slap-stick comedy featuring two high school students but also mixed in with older roommates. Also amazingly consistent comedy with extremely eccentric characters. Because both involve some eccentric personalities living in a co-ed environment the comedic tone is similar but without the romantic-based narrations that Kawai Complex's main character had.

Shirobako
|
Both animes start off with an all girl high school cast as their main characters struggling to get something ready for their high school festivals and before graduation. What Shirobako does, is graduate them within the first episode, and then show what the girls are doing in college/work. If you enjoyed the feel-good, moe, and struggles of K-On! you'll see some parallels with the cast from Shirobako as they struggle to meet their deadlines in all their girlie cuteness. Highly recommended.

Music is very similar with the techno, rock and symphony parts. The settings also pit a superior enemy against the underdog main characters set in the future with mechs. Both series feature cute girl protagonists, mech battles and awesome action & animation, with moving techno-symphony music and chorus.

Aldnoah Zero is very similar in it's style to Code Geass but with really amazing music and more fluid animations. Both feature underdog sides fighting against a superior enemy with better tech, more resources, and more numbers at its disposal. The main characters both always enter battle with a plan though in Aldnoah, much of the plan is finding out the enemy's weakness and then exploiting it, though there is some element of being an extra couple of steps ahead. The main character in Aldnoah seems more diminutive and adaptive but with less insane foresight than Lelouch.

The focus on competitions and getting into the technicality of driving or riding in both Initial D and Yowamushi Pedal both have nice balances. Both main characters initially never were involved in the sport and become interested early in the series. Seeing that sort of excitement was fun in both. The excitment developed during races are also very similar. I'd have to say in terms of differences, Yowamushi Pedal is bit more light-hearted and innocent due to the main character and settings but overall the feelings and shining parts of both series are very similar and will be enjoyed with both series.

Hataraku Maou-sama! and Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita (Yuushibu for short) not only have similar starting settings but also have the same comical scenario: Comedy at the workplace. By making the demons work in a regular store (McRonalds in Hataraku Maou-sama and Lawson's in Yuushibu) and assimilating to the workplace, both shows create hilarious comedy. In Maoyuu's case, from adapting too well to climbing the corporate ladder and penny pinching and in Fino's case, from lacking common sense and etiquette and scaring customers.

Servant x Service and Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita (Yuushibu for short) both try to capitalize on comedy at the workplace. While Servant x Service focuses on the government office and the irritating everyday occurrences from being civil servants and repetition of it all, Yuushibu takes the hum-drum repetitive daily life of a retail clerk and throws in comical scenarios from the foreignness of it all to a demon adapting to regular life.

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu

The setting for these two anime are very similar, revolving around school-based gun battles. Stella Academy has a slightly lighter feel to it because it doesn't feel as serious because the use of air-soft but the feel of the battle excitement were the same or even better. The focus was on teamwork, tactics and STYLE. On the stylish movie type moves and exciting stunt-like teamwork and tactics. Besides the gun and school setting the animes also share the humorous feel to it. Moreso I'd say in Stella Academy because of clash of a general view that such air-softers are too hardcore and a bit weird compared to enjoying the excitement of battle. Both Upotte and Stella Academy capitalize on the main characters being girls to make the comedy funny and slice of life in some respects. I also would have to say the characters in Stella Academy seem more funny because the character's interesting personalities and the comedy it creates. If you enjoyed Upotte!! you'll love this lighter more humorous version with a similar school setting. If you enjoyed Stella Academy, you'll enjoy the familiar focus on combat school events and excitement watching the girls battle each other.

Both with witty dialogues and monologues, if you enjoyed either series you'll definitely enjoy the other because of the well-crafted dialogue between the two main characters. Seeing their relationship grow and their abusive banter is really amusing. I would've loved to see their relationship go more deeper like Bakemonogotari but the love triangle was amusing enough.

Both are dark action series focused around primarily a weaker boy with a physically and mentally strong female lead character. If you enjoyed one, you'll enjoy the other because both have a lot of gore and dark backgrounds though Freezing has less arcs and focus more on character's relationship. Both involve military style operations but Freezing has some sci-fi as well as a lot of fan service not present in Black Lagoon.

Anime that have dark themes and deal with killing others in a very distant, cold, calculated way though both main characters have to deal with it emotionally it themselves. Both of these anime contain similar styles of commentary and comedy. They both center around the male narrative of a guy who's had a fantasical past he's tried to put behind him. The main character often has long monologues with himself with a metaphorical cynicism of the social order and events at school. Other than that both main characters also are a bit socially inadept and seek (or forced to seek in Hachiman's case) the help of a very intelligent girl also dealing with her own problems. Both anime take place in a high school club focused on self-improvement.

However, when the action starts for Full Metal Panic! and the bullets start flying and people start dying you'll enjoy this series as well. There's mech sliding, grenade throwing, RPG lauching, booby traps setting, hostage taking, body-guarding, character kidnapping, submarine diving, ambush laying, AK firing, and other assorted mayhem in Full Metal Panic! that will fill the action that you crave.

Noir
|
Although this anime is quite different it could also be considered quite similar as well. Gunslinger Girl begins with the same premise. Girls with highly refined gun skills working as assassins. I believe both revolve around the pacing of the action sequences and if you enjoyed Noir's actions sequences Gunslinger Girl will definitely be a step up due to the detail taken to animate shooting, recoil, bullet casings, gun powder smoke, etc. If you enjoyed the action sequences in Noir, you likely enjoyed it partly because the pure insanely-cold expressions and ease they dispatched their enemies and in Gunslinger Girls you will definitely find that element still there. Lastly if you simply just enjoy watching girls shoot the crap outta guys against overwhelming odds, Gunslinger Girl is definitely your cup of tea. The main character likes hers with lots of sugar. =P
