This is my first ever Love Live anime seasons I've ever watched. To be honest I am not familiar with this series or any idol/music anime in general. After watching this anime however, it make me appreciate the use of music in anime even more. The theme of this anime is "music connecting people" and the show does delivered this theme in many aspects.
The story structure in Love Live Superstar is very simple: a main character has their own struggle, work their way to solve the issue, and then overcome it at the end of the episode/arc. Well...most storytelling follow this structure anyway, so how
...
does this anime make the journey interesting?
1). The Characters:
In this show, the audience are spent with 5 main characters most of the time and all of them are filled with over-the-top personality that make the character engaging to watch while being reasonable most of the time that make the character relatable to the audience. Character have their own personal cartoony flare like how overconfidence Sumire is or how Keke act soooo over to anything school idol related. However, these traits shown on the screen signify how the character actual background, like how it shows Sumire professionalism in show-biz, or show how Keke really loves the school idols and what it really means to her.
The dynamic and clash between personality throughout the show is also interesting and keep the show engaging to watch. Every 5 character, while having their own interesting personality on their own, is even more interesting to see how they interact with each other. My favorite interaction of the series is probably Keke and Sumire, that keep taking shot at each other between a serious conversation that keep the lovng conversation of the show intact.
2). The Story and Music:
I want to group this two topic together since the story is about music after all. Seeing the character overcome their own demon in each arc through the interaction between other main character is very satisfying to watch not only entertaining to watch based on the humor from funny speech and facial expression, but also the conversation between the two character really feel genuine for me.
The show really does a good job on showing the character developed before reaching their own goal most of the time rather than just having the character randomly saying what they learn and call it a day. Sometimes the show even use some choreograph to show this as well. These struggles shown in the screen makes the audience actually feel connected with the
Also the finale of the character development in a form of the character's musical performance. Not only it act as a satisfying rewards to the audience sensory, but it also act as the end product of the character development that the audience sit through for entire arc in a form of lyrics, character dance or even aesthetics of dress or stages. Many aspects of the performance that represents the character development combined with how sick it is in terms of sensory wise make the performance feel really rewarding to see for the audience, and in turn make the other arc of the series more engaging as the audience will anticipated with the next performance.
Overall, with its strong character and their dynamic is a part that what make the show great, but with its story structure and how the finale use it music to recap what character has been through and shows character has developed makes the player feel connected with the struggle and the joy of overcoming, as if the music actually connected the player. This elevate the show from being a great, to one hell of an experience for me.
